Thank you guys.
I was like eek when I switched on tv today morning. How is this possible? We're in total shock.
It was the President, btw. The Prime Minister and all other non-presidential ministers are fine, actually.
But with the President there were a few of deputy speakers of Parliament - of both chambers, the head general of our army, the head of our national bank (something like Fed Bank in US), heads of several other important institutions... And a bunch of parliament members.
I mean... one person.. fine... two people important to the country... possible.... but 80?!?!

I mean. I didn't like the guy. I haven't voted for him. I wouldn't vote for him (in 1st round) in election at the end of this year (although I probably would in the 2nd round if he was against the candidate of the Prime Minister's party).
But...
These things don't happen to Poland. They never happened to us. Not during peace times.
Did you know this happened exactly 5 years after the Pope John Paul the 2nd died? It was also the first Saturday after Easter then...
And can you imagine where this happened? Why did they go there in the first place? 70th anniversary of the soviet murders on Polish army officers etc....

Well, I don't take it as murders committed by Russians. They were committed by Stalin and his crew. To decapitate the Polish society and make it submissive.
And now the plane crashes in the same place and it feels as if the nation was decapitated once again.

This is Nergal's fault. I can feel it.
But seriously, it seems kind of fishy. That 88 members of your parliment/government ....thing are wiped out in one fell swoop. Doesn't it? I mean how can they all be dead if they were in the process of landing. The article I read may have been incorrect but it certainly seems from the description they were near landing but clipped some trees.

The plane had lots of fuel and it was one of the wings that hit the ground first. It exploded.

The plane is in small pieces.
I don't even want to think what the president's twin brother saw when he went to identify the president's body (a formality required by our constitution to enable the speaker of the Parliament undertake the activities of the nation's head).

First thing I thought of when I read the headline two days ago was you, Kas.
Here's hoping Poland's government will be back on its feet soon and without hangups. I can only imagine what the conspiracy theorists in your country are thinking.

I read that this specific type of airplane has had many problems in the past as well ie technical problems and previous crash landings. D: And yes, people have been calling it ironic and a "freak of nature" sort of thing that they were travelling to the memorial event and then died themselves...
But as was said, the government should be up and running soon.

The constitutional procedures are in place and the government is on their feet... It just makes things more difficult these days...
And... 6 top army commanders all died in this plane neutral
And yes, TU-154 is not so safe of a plane. There were like 60 crashed of 1000 that were built. Comparing to Airbuses or Boeings (like 100 out of 1x thousand crashed) it's really kind of a faulty, least saying.
But it all seems that it was the weather and pilot's error... Although they are checking the black boxes and perhaps there was also some technical problem.
