"Erath, move. I can't clean with you sleeping on the ground."

. . . . .

Cleaning the floor wasn't that bad of a punishment. Faranth, Y'ul didn't even really consider it a punishment since she'd done it so many times before as a Candidate. Of course then she'd had others helping her clean so the task was over in a third of the time, but as Y'ul moved tables and chairs around on her own she knew the job would probably take any and all free time she might have wanted to have for now.

It suited her fine, she was best left alone with her thoughts. It let her reflect on her actions and the gossip that was being hissed behind her back daily, fingers pointing at her and calling her both a 'shame' and a 'violent creature'. She could admit that she was probably a healthy mixture of both, her temper getting the best of her in her latest encounters with people, but for some reason she didn't really feel like being reminded about it constantly.

Of course she couldn't act on that at all; she'd been warned heavily by the Weyrlingmaster that her actions were costing Erath a chance to be worth anything in the Weyr and, as much as Y'ul didn't care too much for herself, she wanted her dragon to be able to prosper. There wasn't much love between the pair, but there was something there after all.

Above Y'ul's head her main flying trio flitted about, talking amongst themselves. Song and Tune remained on her shoulders, talons in or against her flesh in efforts to stay attached. The Gold was calm and quiet, per her usual nature, but the Brown let out his usual chirping now and then to express his distaste. Except for Y'ul chiding Erath to move now and then the dinging hall stayed mostly silent, the sounds of the flitters the only noise when they felt like being exceptionally vocal.

"Only a few more days of this. It's been two out of my sevenday, so. . . "

Just don't do it again.

Unlike her fellow Weyrling, Cass had an hour to spend as she so wished with Vespereth, who was now freshly bathed and oiled. The small green preened a bit with every appreciative look she earned as they walked through the Weyr, ignoring the occasional look of dislike or disgust fired at the female pair. Both of them had long since learned that it was a waste of energy to get up in arms at ever person who looked at them that way. Best to save themselves for the fights that really mattered. Besides, ignoring those parochial morons only proved that they were better than they were.

Once she had finished bathing her lifemate, Cass had tied a fetching yellow scarf about Vespereth's slender neck. The nicely complimented the green's hide and made the little dragon feel very happy indeed. She'd always envied her lifemate's pretty clothes, and was more than a little upset when she had found out that they didn't make them for dragons too. Being given the scarf had made her feel even prettier than she knew she was, so it was with a high, confident step that Vespereth' followed hers through the Weyr. Ohm seemed to quite like the new accessory as well, for as he rode about on Vespereth's back, he would straighten it out and neaten it before it could get tangled in Vespereth's wings or legs and foul up her smooth gait.

Cass giggled on occasion to see the way her dragon preened, but couldn't blame her. She looked absolutely adorable in the scarf. The rider had managed to save up a few stray marks given her now and then for extra errands she had run when she hadn't had anything else to do, and Vespereth was sleeping off another meal.

The petite trio stopped into the kitchen to say hello to some old friends of Cass' that she had formerly worked with, along with her birth mother. All three were much fawned over by the majority working their, and Cass' birth mother preened almost as much as Vespereth did.

They soon made their goodbyes though, and Cass exited the kitchen and into the main dining hall, which was currently empty...

except it wasn't.

Y'ul was there, and Cass thought she glimpsed Erath somewhere down there on the floor as her rider mopped the floor on her own. The young woman grimaced to herself at the unluckiness of having run into this particular weyrling when she had been having such a good day. She almost considered backing out and going back through the kitchen, until her pride nipped at the back of her mind and the tiny woman squared her shoulders and marched through the room and towards the door. Just as she was passing one of the tables though, Cass stumbled over Erath's tail. She had been so focused on making it to the door without paying any attention at all to Y'ul, that she hadn't been paying attention to the floor. Unluckily enough, the only thing that kept the girl from falling to her knees, was falling into the other rider instead.

'Oh shard it all!' Cass thought angrily to herself even as she knocked into the other girl. So much for being cool and passing by without a sideways glance.

"Sorry." Cass said as she righted herself, though the words came out grudgingly. Granted, it had been her fault, but what the heck was her dragon doing sprawled out on the floor like that where someone could trip over her?!

Erath bristled the moment she heard someone else enter the hall, her massive head lifting up and swaying to look. She recognized the pair (if by dragon only) and made no mention of it, Y'ul having her back turned away from the advancing duo and her focus on the task at hand. If Y'ul was fine with it then Erath was fine with it, and she lowered her head back down to rest. . . .only to have her tail tripped over.

Watch yourself.

Erath's command entered the minds of all those around her, dragon and rider and firelizard alike, the tone not quite biting but enough as a warning. Two of the five firelizards shrieked and went between, the green and the brown, leaving Y'ul's shoulder to smart. The Greenrider didn't have much time to even properly respond to it all since the moment the words entered her mind a body contacted into her own and nearly knocked her from her feet. Thankfully being low to the ground and firmly rooted where she stood, Y'ul did nothing but sway as she managed to stay righted.

Y'ul

Her name was a warning, but one that didn't need given. Y'ul didn't even bat an eye as she dusted Cass's shoulders off before dusting her own, moving to lift the mop back up. Cass was a waste of time for Y'ul, as were most people in the Weyr now. Erath seemed mildly pleased that the woman appeared to be taking the higher road, but the odd sense of empty thoughts that came with her actions made the Green's eyes whirl yellowish blue for a moment or two.

"Be careful, I've just mopped."

That was all she said before she moved to clean up the mud that had come with Cass's walking, a neat set of tracks stemming from the kitchen up until this point. Seeing as Erath hadn't moved she could see where the dragon's tail had tripped the woman, but nothing more came of it. Cass was a waste of time.

Vespereth, are you and yours alright?

Seeing as Y'ul wasn't talking, someone had to fill the silence.

Cass gave a slight start as a strange voice echoed through her mind, telling her to watch her step. It took her a moment to realize that it was Erath's. It was a bizarre sensation, having someone besides Vespereth in her head, and she wasn't entirely sure she liked it.

“I'm sorry for stepping on you Erath.” Cass said sincerely, despite her discomfiture. She had been all set to do a duck in run when Y'ul came at her swinging, but nothing of the sort happen, automatically making the petite woman wary. Vespereth butted her head against Cass' leg, drawing her attention to the worriedly crooning dragonet who looked up at her with blue and yellow eyes.

'I'm fine, dear one. Just a little...confused.' She said silently to her's.

'Me and mine are fine.' Vespereth reported to her larger sister, turning now calmer blue eyes to the other green. Ohm chirped as though adding his two cents, and Vespereth said 'And so is the tiny one.'

Cass hesitated, torn between running while she could, and wondering what had made the other female rider so unusually calm. Her curiosity, as per ususal, won out in the end, though she had a feeling she might regret it later.

“Ah...is something wrong, Y'ul?” Cass asked slowly, carefully “You don't seem yourself.”

"Me? I'm fine, just wanting to get this hall cleaned. Erath is in need of her afternoon tending and I don't have time to waste here."

Y'ul's tone was flat and civil, her eyes never lifting above the ground she was mopping. She was fairly quick in cleaning up the mud that Cass had brought with her, the mud Vepereth had brought along as well, and soon she was able to get back to where she'd started from.

The Greenrider looked tired and uninterested, as if her task wasn't really keeping her moving. Perhaps it was also what was keeping her from being her normal chatty self, were that possible.

Erath lifted herself from where she'd been laying and moved to sit at Y'ul's side, the woman pausing just enough that two of her flitters returned from their mild panic. The brown settled itself back on her shoulders, hissing and spitting at the new arrivals, while the green dared to land atop Erath's head. The dragon gave a slight rumble of displeasure but did nothing more.

Good then, that you are well. Y'ul was worried over you, if only slightly. You are a small dragon, she is curious on how you're growing.

Erath wasn't going to lie, Y'ul may have mentioned once or twice about the small size of the dragon. She spoke about how large the Bronze was as well.

"Oookay...well, glad to hear you're doing well." Cass said, still a little confused about Y'ul's manner. Normally she would have at least yelled a bit. She knew, of course, that Y'ul had punched Sharkal lately, having talked to him herself, but had she gotten in more trouble than ususal? Maybe they had threatened to kick her and Erath out...No, that was ridiculous, the Weyr wouldn't have a rogue dragon running about.

No, more likely she had been threatened with the same fate as L'pin, never to be in a fighting wing. Cass shuddered at that possibility. It was going to be hard enough getting into a wing, what with all the female rider haters running around. Hopefully Y'uls actions hadn't damaged her own chances. Cass bit her lip indecisively, wondering if she should just leave, or ask what had happened. She dislike Y'ul, but it was weird seeing her quasi-rival in such a funk.

'She is?' Vespereth asked, perking her head up. She did so love attention, even if it was only a passing mention of her when she wasn't around 'The Weyrling master says I grow well. I will be small, but I don't mind. I will be a perfect match for mine.' she said proudly.

She doesn't care about yours or anything else relating to your rider. She's only concerned about your small mouth and how much you'd eat, as well as possible thick tail. Y'ul likes dragons, not people.

Erath's words were soft and almost a murmur like she was hardly staying awake enough to really talk with her clutchmate. The Green herself had no problems with Vespereth nor her Rider, even if hers actually had a beef or so. The only dragon the Green might have raised her heckles at was a certain snobbish Brown, but even then Erath was starting to wonder if that was worth it. She and Y'ul talked often, and she knew Y'ul's ambitions.

"You look like you're doing fine. Being treated well and good by all the other riders, or are they scowling at you from behind their teeth? Must be nice though to have friends in good places to watch your back."

Y'ul probably shouldn't have phrased her words that way even if they weren't meant to sound so harsh but the Greenrider wasn't really in the mood to mince and act overly friendly. She was pretty much defaulting back to her attitude and ways of speaking that she had developed while at the Healer Hall, the attitude of indifference to nearly every living thing. The only thing in the room she cared about was the dragon who sat a few feet away and maybe the flitters who decorated said dragon and her own shoulders.

"And don't you say I did it to myself to get chores like this. I didn't bother defending myself to the Weyrlingmaster over something I felt justified, that's what happened. Anything else that anyone else says is just wherry teeth and thread in my opinion."
