Howl was shopping--for someone, he wouldn't say who. "You know Sophie won't let you buying her gifts," a voice pointed out from behind him. A flame shaped creature shot out from behind the child-sized wizard. "You know she doesn't approve of you spending money on her."
Howl paused. He was in jeans today, with a blue and silver hoodie that matched the colors of his favorite suit. "I never said the gift was for Sophie," he muttered. "It's for a friend." A friend? Calcifer thought Sophie could have been considered Howl's friend; maybe the wizard was trying to trick him.
"What friend?" the fire-demon asked. "I'll help you find a gift for her."
"Who said it was a girl?" Howl asked, frowning slightly. He didn't seem to realize he was giving himself away by becoming defensive.
"It is, isn't it?"
"As a matter of fact, no."

With a light purple satchel back bouncing off her hip, Alome walked through the store, searching for a certain wizard.
It had been such a long time since the two had been together; after the events at Irae's house, she had no heart to see anyone..
But what the two had, Alome and her friend... It was like gravity, constantly being drawn to one another, and couldn't be separated, lest they fall right back to one another.
This thought crossed Alome's mind, and she giggled, adjusting her glasses. She continued to search, wondering where Howl could be..

Howl nearly bumped into Alome. All at once, he seemed to stop his search for the present he was supposed to be seeking. "Alome! I didn't know you'd be here--well, I did--" Awkward. How could he hide the fact that he had been looking for a present for her?
"How are you?" he asked at last. It's been a long time since I've seen you." Now he was stating the obvious. Great--that really made him seem like the intelligent wizard he was. He looked to Calcifer for assistance.
"We've missed you," translated the firedemon with a roll of his eyes.
