As of 5.29.2010 this quest has been edited from Glaucus to Pandarus
THE HOST Name: Valerius Henney
Nicknames: Lier, the nickname got started when Valerius's younger sister was born and she couldn't pronounce his name. She chopped everything up and pasted it back together in the very condensed form of Lier. Valerius does not respond to Lier unless you are Madeline, his baby sister. Val by Glaucus.
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Birthday: March 21
Sign: Aries
Gemstone: Aquamarine (March), Diamond (Aries)
Blood Type: O
School: Sovereign Heights Preparatory
Fav. Food: Jokbal. There's just something about its unique greasiness and strong flavor that keeps him coming back for more.
Hated Food: Pineberries. Valerius dislikes strawberries in general but something about a white strawberry lookalike is just very disturbing. Then there's the oddity of it tasting like a pineapple of all things. [Pineberries/White Strawberry lookalike]
Hobbies: Free Solo Climbing - If there's one thing that Valerius can't get enough of then it's the heart-pounding, blood-pumping exhilarating feel of climbing up a wall of rock. Free climbing is a subversion of rock climbing where the climber forgoes ropes, harnesses and other protective gear while ascending and relies only on his or her physical strength, climbing ability, and psychological fortitude to avoid a fatal fall.
For Valerius, to scale a 400 feet tall wall of rock with nothing to rely on but his own strength, endurance, and mental fortitude is impossible to put into words. It's a test of one's being and when one succeeds in ascending all the way... it's just uplifting. You feel like you can take on the world, like nothing can knock you down. There's nothing better than that kind of a boost of confidence.
Free solo is a great way for Valerius to improve his concentration and perseverance. When scaling a wall of rock, you never know when a piece might break off. When you might fall off.
Scrabble - Valerius could sit hours on end just playing Scrabble. Scrabble is an outlet for Valerius's obsession on words. When younger, he used to carry around a dictionary to look up new words and memorize their meanings. It isn't for the purpose of showing off but rather because he appreciates and respects the power behind words. Words intrigue him immensely with its power to make or break relations between people and ability to control a person's lifestyle.
With scrabble he's not only is he able to test his vast knowledge on words but also able to learn new ones from his friends. Be warned, if Valerius challenges you to a game of Scrabble it'll probably end up lasting for 5 hours at the least.
House of Cards - Give Val a pack of cards and he'll show you an impressive card tower. He doesn't know a thing about poker, thirteen or rummy but he can take your breath away with his structures. From the classic 6 story card castle with v-shaped structures to more intricate time consuming replicas of actual buildings. For Val, building card towers is a great way for him to unwind. After all, what's more fun than going around pretending to be Godzilla as you knock down card sky scrappers?
-------------------- Virtues: Resourceful - Life doesn't always hand us solutions to go with the problems and situations we encounter. If you're in a pinch, sometimes you have to use what you have to get through it. Valerius knows this, and for that reason is an exceptionally well prepared person. He has emergency kits, tool kits, and first aid kits stashed in various locations in his home. He knows basic first aid, wilderness survival, and other random yet necessary life skills (like changing a car tire.) A lot of these skills are from personal experiences such as being an eagle scout and family trips. Self-Confident - At peace with himself and who he is, Valerius finds it really easy to brush aside the comments directed towards him with the intent to hurt. He may be seen a strange but that is a part of who he is. He doesn't mind being unorthodox because to him conformity is the greatest sin alive. People may talk and whisper behind his back about how strange and different he is but Valerius won't even bat an eyelash. After all, who's the better stronger person? A person able to show off their own colors or one who picks up the colors of others?
He's pleased with himself and who he is, so why do the opinions of others matter? So long as he is content with himself, nothing else matters. Of course, he is also aware that he could use some positive influences to improve his personality.
Valerius's self-confidence is evident from the way he moves and interacts with others. He's impervious to the rumors and rude remarks that people say about him. Sure of himself and his actions, he doesn't require the support of others to try out new things. In this aspect, Valerius misses out on very few things in life. Humorous - To Valerius, jokes and laughs are life. [WIP] Flaws: Mischief Managed! - Imperceptible - Easily Distracted -
APPEARANCE
Eyes: Valerius has emerald green eyes and they're average in size. They have a look of smug curiosity, as if he is seeing something that you aren't that intrigues him greatly.
Valerius also wears glasses, however they're for visual appeal. [Reference]
Hair: The style is known as a faux hawk. Pretty much it's a mohawk only you don't shave off the rest of your hair. Val's faux hawk is 2 colors. The left side of his hawk is black and the right is blonde.
Color Style Reference
That is not a faux hawk. It's a reference to show you what I mean by the bicolored thing.
And a few faux hawk references for you:

Valerius's is closer to that of style y

THE REASONING What is a jungle?
Jungle (Sanskrit: जंगल) refers to the most dense, more or less impenetrable regions within a tropical rainforest with an abundance of animal and plant life. The word jungle originates from the Sanskrit word jangala (जंगल) which referred to uncultivated land. Although the Sanskrit word refers to "dry land", it has been suggested that an Anglo-Indian interpretation led to its connotation as a dense "tangled thicket". While others have argued that a cognate word in Urdu did refer to forests. The term is prevalent in many languages of the Indian subcontinent, and Iranian plateau, particularly in Hindi and Persian.
The term jungle may still be used in technical contexts[citation needed] to describe the rainforest biome, a forest characterised by extensive biodiversity and densely tangled undergrowth including the young trees, vines and lianas, and herbaceous plants.
As a metaphor, jungle often refers to situations that are unruly or lawless, or where the only law is perceived to be "survival of the fittest".
Why Valerius?

RELATIONS THE CAVALIERS
Alexandros - It's hard to say what the relationship will be like between Alexandros and Glaucus. At best I can only say it'll be like very thin ice.
As a cavalier, it is one of Glaucus's duties to protect Alexandros. In fact, Glaucus would give up his life without a second thought if it meant keeping the prince alive. Of course, it would be out of obligation not adoration. While Glaucus wants to retain a good relationship with the prince, several things about Alexandros puts him off. First, the prince's 'hobby' of picking up women despite his affinity with Queen Nehelenia and secondly his manipulative nature.
As an idealist, Glaucus has set standards for how the prince should act. So far, Alexandros isn't meeting them.
However, Glaucus is easily influenced by others and because Alexandros is so charismatic, Glaucus would be easy to control and use. Of course, it's important to state that Glaucus can be obstinate in certain matters and will be of most use to Alexandros if Glaucus was told that an individual is a threat to the cavaliers. Particularly Hector.
Hector - The only person for Glaucus. And no, that was not supposed to imply mano mano action.
Glaucus views Hector strictly as a role model. As captain of the cavaliers, his respect and adoration for Hector is boundless. While Glaucus might hesitate to follow Alexandros to the end of the world, he'd do no such thing with Hector.
There are several traits that he admires about Hector and those very traits also happen to be what he idealizes in a leader of men. Hector has Glaucus's utmost respect and in some aspects, Glaucus is almost servile to the leader of the cavaliers. Hector also seems to have a strong positive influence on Glaucus, around Hector, Glaucus less restrained. He shows the traits that are expected of the cavalier of the landmark.
Glaucus becomes extremely aggressive and territorial when anyone dares to challenge Hector's word. In a way, Glaucus zealously serves Hector as Hector does Alexandros.
Hector is also the only person Glaucus would go to if he's having problems.

HISTORY OF PANDARUS In Homer's Iliad, Pandarus or Pandaros (Πάνδαρος) is a famous archer and the son of Lycaon. Pandarus, who fights on the side of Troy in the Trojan War, first appears in Book Two of the Iliad. In Book Four, he shoots Menelaus and wounds him with an arrow, sabotaging a truce that could potentially have led to the peaceful return of Helen of Troy. He is goaded into breaking the truce by the gods, who wish for the destruction of Troy. He then wounds Diomedes with an arrow and acts as Aeneas' charioteer. He is later killed by Diomedes by having his spear strike him in the face, severing his tongue.
In Geoffrey Chaucer’s poem Troilus and Criseyde (1370), Pandarus is an active go-between between his niece Criseyde and the Trojan prince Troilus, the younger brother of Paris and Hector. Troilus pines for Criseyde from afar. This love story is not part of classical Greek mythology, but was created in the twelfth century. Both Pandarus and other characters in the medieval story who have names from the Iliad are quite different from Homer's characters of the same name.
William Shakespeare used the medieval story again in his play Troilus and Cressida (1609). Shakespeare's Pandarus is more of a bawd than Chaucer's, and he is a lecherous and degenerate individual.
The plot function of Pandarus in Chaucer's and especially Shakespeare's famous works has given rise to the English words to pander, meaning to further other people's illicit amours, and a pander (in later usage a panderer), a person who does this. The strong pejorative connotations of pander apparently come less from Chaucer's well-meaning young Pandarus than from Shakespeare's cynical uncle figure who concludes the play's epilogue by wishing upon the audience all his many diseases. A panderer is, specifically, a bawd — a male who arranges access to female sexual favors, the manager of prostitutes. Thus, in law, the charge of pandering is an accusation that an individual has sold the sexual services of another.
Pandarus is also the name of a companion of Aeneas in Virgil's Aeneid. Pandarus is not to be confused with Pandareus.

FAQ - To be filled when questions are asked.
o1. WHY MELON CARVING????
---------Everyone seems to having a problem with this hobby for Valerius, my reason for this is that I usually like to balance out my characters by having at least one artistic hobby. I considered cooking since Valerius likes to eat a lot but many of the characters in this shop as well as ones being quested have cooking as a hobby. So I opted for something that was artistic and pertained to food, melon carving.
Melon carving might seem to be something feminine and it is to tell the truth but it's an art that takes countless hours of practice and discipline.

One thing that's bugging me, honest, just the one. (HOGAWD I love your descriptions forsrs).
What started/prompted his stealing/hording thing? Cause, while good, it seems a bit out of place with no reasoning behind it other then he subconsciously does it (which is a valid answer, I'm just horridly curious).

8DDD <3 Thank you. I usually have confidence issues with my writing. ROFL.
Okay, so to answer your question:
What started/prompted his stealing/hording thing?
While the exact causes of kleptomania are unknown, for Valerius it's something that stemmed from an addictive personality he had when he was younger.
What is an addictive personality?
When someone has an addictive personality, it makes them more vulnerable to self-destructive, compulsive behaviors. So, a few examples of people who have an addictive personality are alcoholics, gamblers and compulsive eaters.
Generally, individuals with addictive personalities have specific personality traits such as: antisocial personality, low distress tolerance, difficulty delaying gratification, compulsive behavior and substituting vices.
As a young child, Valerius was impulsive. He acted without thinking before hand, like saying things without considering how it might affect the person you're speaking to. His impulsiveness was also seen in material greed. If he saw something he wanted, he did everything he could to have it. Sometimes it was asking his parents nicely and other times it was simply stealing it.
Now then, as a child, he used to steal little things like cards and candy. At first it was just an impulsive action driven by typical jealous thoughts. John in my art class has this I want this too. Or everyone has this except for me. It simply started as a way for him to have the things he wanted, eventually it began to escalate into something more. He wasn't interested in stealing because he wanted it but because of the feeling that came after stealing. Valerius noted the heightened sense of emotions that followed after doing something he wasn't supposed to. For Valerius, it continued on for a good 2-3 years before his parents found out and beat it out of him.
However, while his consciousness no longer feels the need to steal, his subconsciousness still carries traits of his addictive personality. Though now he takes pens, paperclips, erasers and thumbtacks.
I hope that answers your question. .___. I think I rambled.

The amount of details and attention to their several opposite traits is remarkable; the detail about the colorful tropical fish interest and the colorblind flaw is my favorite. In my opinion, there is not much to say regarding improvements. Maybe, as comic said, explaining his stealing a little further on the profile. Ah! Almost forgot. The melon carving, it is terribly funny and cheeky, but not as serious. Maybe developing it to woodcarving since he definitely has the talent for that if his melon carvings are that good, even if at first he has some difficulties with the new media. It would make it a more useful skill, easier to take seriously, though you could do it later, while RPing him. Woodcarving would also go well with his outdoor activities, making him a resourceful survivorman, going well with the resourceful trait.
Now, not as a critique, but I have to say it. You character would be a perfect friend and rival to mine. I would love to plan and build that relationship between them with you. (my brother is Aries and I'm Libra, so I know how this relationship can be all about love/hate)

XDDD I didn't want Valerius to be able to cook. He'll be a complete eating machine but he's the kind of guy where if he tries to cook things just go wrong, no matter how well he follows the instructions.
If I did push Valerius into wood carving, it would only be after RP. He'd enjoy the challenge of a new medium as well. * U*.
XDDDDD.
I really want Andre and Valerius to interact now. Hahhahaa.

OH KOCO. YOU KNOW I LOVE VAL AND GLAUCUS. We spent forever brainstorming together, after all.
So when I crit, know that I crit with love. e_e
Valerius
Melon carving - Why melons? Something special about them? xD Odd, but it suits him!
Confident - Maybe say how else it helps him? Other than deflecting those insults of his eccentricities [ which is subtly hinted at. If being eccentric was a big trait, I suggest hinting at it more ].
Enduring - Elaborate on that last sentence? I'm curious about it.
Klepto - elaobrate on how this affects him negatively? Does he get in trouble with it a lot? Does he get defensive when confronted?
Gullible - Minor grammar thing. Willing not will. Elaborate/more description on his gullibility.
Assertive - go =/= God. 8D
I LIKE VAL'S HAIR TEEHEE
Erastus
I like Erastus's tagging hobby so much. SO BADASS, MAN. You seemed to have stopped explaining why he's got tagging, though. ". . . Glaucus prefers to dabble with paint. For him to engage in libertaine "
Tropical fish - Elaborate on history. Maybe on whether he's got a giant tank dedicated to it or something. He's got tropical fish-themed items. Something more? xD;;
Gutsy - "isn't afraid to do what he believes"
Undaunted - Elaborate more on how it doesn't just relate to failure?
Sensitive - Elaborate more on how it affects him negatively?
Blinded - He's colorblind too? Dawwww. Posses. And dang. He doesn't sound gentle in this at all. xD Idk if that's conflicting, though.
Idealist - And. More on how idealist is negative?
But you know I love this guy so hard. <3

OHAI KO Time for my B*H!Crit as we so lovingly call it xD /shot
Valerius;; Hobbies~ If I remember correctly, you had said you wanted Valerius to be masculine, yush? Melon-carving doesn't hit me as masculine at all. Rather effeminate, in my opinion actually. Not necessarily the carving part, but that it's melons. Just an observation.
Personality~ Resourceful: I think this is a pretty good trait. The first paragraph isn't really resourcefulness though. More being extremely prepared. Have you ever read Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events? The main female character - now that's resourcefulness. It's taking a situation or an item and using/making it into something else entirely by itself or combining it with something else for something ossum. The second paragraph shows this perfectly - I would make it that main paragraph and distinguish the other paragraph as being prepared or some other synonym of it. =)
Self-Confident + Enduring = ^^b; It's a good combo. But again you deviate from Enduring at some point and go into a Empathetic/Caring trait. I understand why you have it in there, and approve, but you put so much info into it that it distracts from the Enduring part.
Flaws~ Klepto: I agree with Syu!Bro. Elaborate and talk about it more. I'm still confuzzled with how it fits in with Valerius as a whole. Mostly because it seems so random and WOAH. I never expected to come to it with his previous traits and information. Almost like it's disjointed from the rest of his background, somewhat.
Blunt: I like and approve of this as well. It connects greatly with his S.C. trait. ^^b
Gullibe: I still find this funny but it doesn't conflict with anything aforementioned and will allow for interesting character growth/development most likely. :3
Assertive: Approve (But yeah go =/= God. XDDDD)
Appearance: Haha. Not a hitch just a comment. You have a thing for bicolored black/white hair, huh? xDDDD /punch'd
Glaucaus;; Hobbies~ Tagging and Bombing: Haha. I like it. But that might just be because I think graffiti is ossum like woahhh.
Tropical Fish: I agree with Syu!Bro again. I want to know more about this hobby. ^^
Flaws~ Sensitive: Man. Syu!Bro is saying exactly what I want to. xD Elaborate more on what all of this trait means. It's confusing as to how it's a flaw right now.
Blinded: How does being colorblind affect him more then relying on others? And how does this effect other people's opinion of him? Won't they see him as incapable of being a good soldier what with having such a downfall in sight?
About as far as I got before I realized how much I needed to get done. I'll return to finish out the crit if you want it but I'm stopping after Glaucaus's post. xD
