Calintha took a step towards the front of a building. The doors in front of her opened silently, and the doors behind those did the same. The inside was bustling with people, everyone looking incredibly busy and important to her. Lab coats were prevalent, blowing out behind legs like a hero's cape. The blonde girl had not been back to the hospital since she'd been discharged some months (had it really been months now?) before. She found that she had a distaste for it now; it made her stomach turn ever so slightly.

The girls dirty chucks looked even worse when compared to the clean white floor underneath her. Not sure exactly what to do in the busy world that was Destiny Memorial Hospital, she wandered up to the front desk, clutching a little box in her hands that was as white as the floors and walls.

"Can I help you hunny? Are you here to see someone, or do you have an appointment?" The nurse behind the high counter shocked her out of her daze. Calintha looked up, her brown eyes locking onto the darker eyes of the older woman in front of her. She was wearing bright pink scrubs with some kind of writing that Calintha couldn't make out.

"Laney Sutton, Miss. I'm here to see Landscape." It was a quiet, subdued answer. The nurse nodded understandingly and handed over a neon pink clipboard, obviously something that was her own personal attribution to her workspace (it was surprisingly similar in color to the scrubs she was wearing, making the girl wonder if she color coded her outfits and clipboards). Calintha kept her head down while she scrawled her name in blue ink and filled out the rest of the information required. The nurse checked her name and nodded her forward, giving her directions and a room number.

Calintha hadn't ever been to see Laney, even though she had meant to. The blonde had only seen the comatose girl once, when one night she'd finally plucked up the courage to see her. She'd promised herself from that point on that once a month she would visit the other girl, who was more of a victim of Barren Pines than Calintha would ever be. Because Laney hadn't woken up. The girl gripped the box tightly as she walked slowly to her destination, and by the time she had found the right door the corners were crushed.

Her large brown eyes stared at the number listed on the door, with a little scrawl underneath that read Laney's full name. She stood outside of the door for what felt like an eternity; in reality it was a matter of seconds. The door turned open with a light click, and the heavy door swung inward smoothly. It was stopped noiselessly on the inside wall by a rubber door stop.

"Hi Landscape." She shut the door behind her, only needing a small shove to close it fully. "I know... I know we didn't ever really meet at school." Calintha took a step into the room awkwardly, feeling out of place. A few memento's of previous visits filled the room, some partially wilted flowers, a few cards. Even a fern, placed carefully on the nightstand. The rest of the decorations were obviously hospital standard; white sheets, generic but pleasing pictures hung on the wall.

The room was mostly stark white; the only sounds to interrupt the silence was a faint beep of the heart monitor that kept Laney alive and the slow, deep breathing of the comatose girl. The sound scared Cali a little, it was too concise. The erratic breathing of a healthy human gave the sound life. Laney's was sterile and cold, just like her room itself. It was awkward for her to be here, and Calintha felt like she was intruding. Laney hadn't really known her, she wasn't friends with the girl.

But it didn't matter. Laney was a person connected to her past, another puzzle piece to a picture that was already missing several. But she was real. Not particularly really alive currently, but breathing. Something, somewhere inside of that girl lived Laney Sutton. A girl who attended Barren Pines just as Cali had (possibly), and particularly talented speller if she remembered correctly. Calintha had learned a lot of faces and names during her schooling at Barren Pines (if it existed), and Laney's had been one of them. They'd had a class together once, she thought. Not a lot of interaction, but enough where she recognized the uncharacteristically still face with some familiarity.

"I know... it's strange for me to be here. But you and I have something in common Laney, and I wanted to see you." She shuffled up to the side of the hospital bed and took a seat a foot away. It creeped her out quite a bit; made her skin crawl to sit that close to someone who seemed like at any moment she might open her eyes and start her zombie rampage. "My name is Calintha. We had a class together, I think, at Barren Pines. I mostly kept to myself back then, so I wanted to apologize for never getting to know you."

She looked down at her box, and after a few seconds popped open the top of it. The smell of the plant inside calmed her a bit. The earthy smell permeated a world of hand sanitizer and cleaning products. "It looks like you have a few plants, but I wanted to bring you one as well. It was my gift, you see." She carefully took it out of its box. It was an African Violet, the same species that she had given Howl just a week or two before. They were incredibly difficult to kill and didn't need a lot of water, meaning that she could trust it into the nurses care (assuming they watered the plants, which it looked like someone did at the very least).

"It'll survive well in this room, and I hope it helps you in some small way. Its hard to kill, just like you." Calintha blushed as soon as the words left her lips. "Not that I meant anything by it! Sorry... I guess I just don't know what to do." So she defaulted to the things she did best. Calintha stood abruptly and found the perfect spot in the room for the African Violets. Moving over to the little bathroom off to the side of the room, she turned on the faucet and filled one of the little paper cups that was in a dispenser off to the side.

"I don't know when your plants were watered last, but I guess I can help." She watered the fern on the table, as well as several other plants. It took her a few trips to the faucet, but in 10 minutes all of the plants in the room had been watered (the Violets included). She took the next few minutes to make sure that they all were properly trimmed and placed, humming a little as she did so.

"I hope you don't mind me visiting Landscape, and helping out your plants. I hope your dreams are at least nice." It would be terrible if her dreams were nightmares, since she was trapped in them. Calintha, at least, had the luxury of waking up, even if it didn't feel luxurious at times. Seeing her comatose classmate had made Calintha appreciate things a little more, as terrible as that seemed.

Having run out of things to do (other than stare at another girl breathing, and Calintha didn't feel like playing Edward Cullen) she packed up her box and headed for the door. "Goodbye... I'll come and visit again sometime soon, I think." Calintha left the room, taking one last look backwards at the silver haired girl. She held the folded box as she left the hospital, waving farewell to the nurse who had helped her, and headed back to her apartment.
