The sun was just coming in from over the horizon. Hatters Hole was a huge hole, a crater were wildlife grew. The only way in was a steep path going down one of the walls. There was a huge cave's down this hole. Were the Hatter Mafia called home. Today however there was a new face in the group. Inside Blood's personal cave, which was lined with fine riches and materials was a injured wind soquili that had been asleep all night and some of the day before. She was laid on many blankets surrounded by items of gold and silver. Blood looked at the women. leaning down to gently knock the side of her face. She was a pretty mare, although people might be put off by the bruises and scars that were on her body. Blood had worked hard to get her back here. He found her with a skinwalkers teeth sinking into her neck. Not one to let a pretty face go to waste he chased the creature off. After that, he had carried her on his back to this place, even though it was a struggle.
Now he had made a choice for her. She was part of the herd now. After all if she would not join she would have to die. This location was secrete and so for a good reason. Many people wanted Blood dead so having word come out of here he was. It could be fatal. So as harsh as is sounded, the women's life was saved just to be put into a cage. No matter how much a wonderful and beautiful cage it was, lined with jewels and treasures it was a cage none the less. He smiled and wondered over to his own bed sitting down to take a look at the mare, the room was steamy, because of the little hot spring that was in one corner. It gave the whole room a heavenly look. Sparkles through light mist. Blood himself was unharmed from the attack, probably because he caught the creature off guard. Besides the mare already seemed dead. Skinwalkers only ate live meat. At least so he thought.
Any way he was lucky he was not hurt. He would not question why. When things worked in his favour he found it best not to complain about them. If the fates saw you as ungrateful it was his theory that they would curse you with some serious bad look. This was a blessing indeed. After all this women had just come into the herd, even though she did not know it. He hoped she would make herself useful. After all he hoped he had not risked his life to save her for nothing. He looked at her and tilted her head. It looked like the female was awakening. He knew of winds. However she looked more like a bird than most. She seemed elegant and fluffy. Like a little pigeon. Very elegant, very feminine. If she served as nothing else she was fair enough eye candy.

The first thing she noticed was the pain.
It reverberated throughout her calves and ankles, across her back, and especially her neck, which felt as if it were on fire. Gale let out a soft whinney of mixed pain and confusion as she slowly blinked awake, her eyes bleary from lack of good sleep.
Where...am I?
She did not recognize her surroundings. Thick, luxurious blankets of red, gold, and silver lined the floor, creating a sort of bedding, and there were scarlet cloths draped across the walls of the cave to create a sort of elegant, majestic feeling. There were several random items scattered throughout, all fine, all luxurious looking and Gale blinked again, her brows drawing together in confusion. She half sat up, wincing in pain as her gaze swept around the small enclosure until they landed on him.
Him?
Gale's wings ruffled, startled by the soquili standing a few feet away. An impressive looking young stallion with a cream and scarlet colored coat and a sweeping dark blue mane and tail, he seemed vaguely familiar, and quite handsome, though Gale was unsure as to how exactly she knew him.
Moreover, she was more concerned about why she was where she was.
"What...happened..?" she said. "Where...am I...?"

"You my dear were being nibbled on by a not so pleasant creature. Do you remember? if the shock or you mind have not pushed it from memory. Either away you where a few moments from being made the meal of a nasty." He smiled as he wondered over to her once more. He smiled grabbing a feather from his fat. Using it to pull the thing from his head bowing his head in a gentlemanly like manor. Opening his eyes to meet those of the female. "I am Blood Dupre. However you may call me Boss." He smiled throwing the hat back into the air, it landing perfectly on his noggin like it never would have moved. He looked at her, she seemed to be in a lot of pain, however if she thought she was well enough to move then he would not stop her. "Hmm maybe you should soak in my hot spring. It might ease the pain." He suggested, more as a passing comment before he moved on to the part of her question which was important.
"Well, m'dear. Let me tell you who I am first. I am leader of a herd. Head of the Hatter family. You see we own a business. We are... criminals you might say and this land is my home. The home of the Hatter Mafia. Now as you may guess it is very important we keep out secretes. So I should tell you now. Since you are in our secrete place, you are one of us. Which means you can not leave I am afraid. Leave the lands by all means, however you are part of our herd now. The penalty for treason is death. I am sorry to trouble you with such a thing. However I thought the life of a servant might appeal to you more than no life at all. They are not my rules. Even the Boss has to follow the code you know."
He talked slowly and clearly to make sure she got every word. He did feel sorry for her. He really did. However he could do nothing about it, they were many a worse fate that being part of the Hatter family. Hopefully one day she would see that, for now he just hoped she did not react too badly to the news. After all. He did save her life. He looked back at the beautiful mare. Smiling as he removed his hat, resting it on his cane. He did not want her to feel threatened, god it was the last thing on his mind. He spoke softer now, more genuine. "Are you okay?"

Gale tossed her head, as if to clear it, her eyebrows drawing together as she tried to piece together her pathetically mixed up thoughts.
That's right... she thought to herself, as a few things came tumbling back into her head. I was...being attacked. By that Skinwalker. The one who I had the misfortune of running into in the forest.
And this stallion here...saved me..?
Gale looked up at the soquili who stood above her. Blood Dupre as he called himself, or...Boss? It was quite a feat, having managed to have been saved by a herd leader himself. Besides the fact that herd leaders usually had some sort of underlings to help with the "dirty work" it seemed unlikely that one such as Blood Dupre would have stopped just to save one straggling, helpless mare. Especially not after how he had just described himself.
But despite all of his, Gale was somewhat interested, and more than a little grateful. She struggled to her feet, ignoring the shooting pain that shocked up her legs and ducked her head in a bow of respect and gratitude.
"I am fine, thank you." she said, her head still low. "I am...very grateful for your assistance. If it had not been for you, I would have...not been here at all."
Though, Gale supposed, looking around the spacious, lavishly furnished cave, from what Blood had described she could no longer leave the herd.
Death or life. It was not all that hard of a decision. And despite his intimidating manner of speaking, Gale could not help but feel somewhat drawn to the stallion.
She cocked her head, her wings fluttering slightly. "I see I have no choice but to join your herd. Well, if you would be so kind as to let me use your 'hot springs' to soothe my injuries, I would be willing to discuss the matters at hand further with you."

Blood looked on at the women, wondering what she wanted to talk about. However he was glad that she was taking it so well. He wondered over to the women. Letting her lean against his side as he moves over to the side of the spring. Looking down at her with his deep crystal eyes. "You know you have not told me your name yet." He hinted with a small smile on his face. He was glad that she was grateful. However some part of him wondered why she was. After all if anything he had inconvenienced her something horrible. She seemed nice enough, very much so indeed. Which even thought it made him happy that she was nice enough to talk to, it did not really mean that would be a good thing when it came to the work she had to do. After all Blood's business was all about doing not so nice things. However she did not seem to mention that at all. Maybe she did not know what a Mafia was. Then again not many people did.
Thinking back to the night before he wondered how she became unfortunate enough to get tangled up with such things. Was it a random attack or had she done something to put herself into danger. After all she might not be very useful if she was prone to walk into traps. She was not giving away much about herself. Which was not good because Blood based most of his choices on what he could work out from people, he was a analyser, holding onto any information he could get from them. These were the people who he would come to trust in his life. So it was always a good idea to get to know them. Know their flaws and virtues. To know the strength and weakness He wanted to keep the atmosphere friendly. To him the bird like mare was in shock, she seemed very confused and hurt. He did not want to make the situation any more stressful to her than it already was.
He came to the side of the steaming spring, lowering a foot into the water. It was very warm, however after a while your body adjusted to the temperature. "So what is it you want to discuss?" He asked as he lowered himself into the water. The bow around his neck drooping with the weight of the liquid. He usually hated to get his clothes wet. However he needed to help her in so there was a exception here. He wanted her to feel welcome this was her new home. However this might be the only time she was aloud to enter his private section of Hatters Hole. Blood was a very private man and like to keep a little place for himself. Away from all the fuss and all of the drama that came with leading this herd. Everyone needed a place were they could just escape everything and let there guard down. This was his.

Gale leaned against the stallion's flank as he led her out of the small enclosure, wondering what exactly she should call him. "Blood" seemed too familiar, while "Mr. Dupre" seemed way too formal. "Boss" was odd, since Gale was not quite sure exactly what he was boss of (besides the herd that he had spoken of). He was obviously a very competent and confident stallion with a smooth manner and a silk tongue, and Gale was starting to wonder just what exactly she was in for by joining this herd. Though he was not altogether unpleasant. On the contrary, besides saving her from the Skinwalker, he was concerned about her well-being and her health, which was all positive.
Belatedly, she realized that he had asked her a question. Gale craned her head to look up at him as they reached the hot springs. The stallion descended into the water, leading her carefully in with him. The heat, combined with the steam felt very soothing on her aching limbs.
"My name is Gale." she said, her wings fluttering slightly in the water. "I...am not quite sure as to what 'secrets' you are referring to when you speak of your herd. Obviously I have intruded into something quite different than what I am used to, but it seems I have no choice but to join your herd. I am...not...opposed to joining, seeing as I am in your debt, but I am confused as to the reasoning behind all of your apparent secrecy."

"Well, the Hatter Herd is a mafia herd. We do, not so nice things to people for money, we deal in the black market. As such, a lot of people would want to see us dead. So that is why our lives must be seem in smoke and shadows." He stated, not knowing any way to make it sound nicer, people out there wanted to hurt Blood. Which was probably his fault in the first place. However it was the way things were. He closed his eyes, leaning back in to the smoking water, a smirk painted on his face. Did he enjoy what he did? maybe a little bit but not as much as he knew he should. However it was in his blood, its what his family had always done and what he was raised around. So to him it was normal, he could not imagine life with out his business, if it was one thing - it did not let life drone on dully.
It is good she knew she owed him. Blood was a man who would not risk his own life for nothing, he saved her life thus her life belonged to him, it was why so many members of the herd followed him, Blood had saved many of them, giving them a second chance in life. It was not a free and carefree life however it was a life none the less. He opened his eyes to look at the mare once more. He did not really know what he was wanting him to tell her, however he was sure everything would become clear soon enough all she had to worry about at the moment was getting better, she was no use to him maimed or dead. "Its nice to meet you Gale, I am sure you will have a great time staying with us." He stated with another sly smirk before swimming to the edge and raising himself from the pool, giving a quick shake to get dry.

A mafia herd. Gale was simultaneously intrigued and nervous about joining such a thing. Vaguely she wondered what her daughter might think of her, but Arianrhod was an adult now, and quite rebellious and mischievous, so she probably would not have much difficulty accepting the fact that her mother had joined the Hatter Herd led by Blood Dupre.
Come to think of it, Gale thought, rather belatedly. Ari might try and join herself. It's rather her thing.
Gale let out an exasperated sigh, fluttering her wings and sending small ripples through the steaming water. It was probably a good thing not to tell Ari that she had joined the Hatter Herd. She was already indebted to Blood Dupre, and though she did not object to the way he lived, she did not want her daughter stuck in the same situation as she was.
"I'm sure I will." she answered to the stallion's greeting. "Though...if I may ask...what should I call you? And how exactly...am I to be of use for you?"
Despite her misgivings about being in a mafia herd, Gale was going to put everything into doing what was asked of her. She was not one to back out of her promises, and seeing as Blood Dupre had saved her from a rather nasty fate, she was determined to do her best to serve the herd and its leader.
