A green haired preteen stood out alone on a grassy hill, tossing a frisbee around and attempting to run after and catch it with his tail. It wasn't a particularly interesting or out of the ordinary sight (except for maybe the tail bit) and it wasn't a particularly interesting or out of the ordinary day either.
Shylock's parents were on a small trip to have a bit of "grownup time" so he and his siblings were staying with his Grandfather - on the upside, this meant more kids at the right age for his siblings to play with. On the downside, that meant he was stuck in a house with way too many people, so heading out alone was necessary to maintain sanity.

Jeff had spotted the boy before Jocelyn, and pointed him out to the man. There had been no real plans for the day, other than exploring; no picnics, no catch, just a day outside after the painfully cold winter-spring transition.
"You can ask," Jocelyn shrugged, staying close behind. He wasn't about to let his kid run off with some teenager, spawn or not.
"Hi!" Jeff called, giving his best smile and waving, "Can I play?!"

Shy glanced over, having just caught the Frisbee. What? Well it was some kid and the boy was out playing with a kid's toy alone in a public place, so someone asking to join in was expected.
"Yeah sure. Catch." he said, lightly flinging the toy, like he would to Nero.

Jeff blinked at it, catching it easily. Why did people always think he was bad just because he was little? Sure, he couldn't kick a ball as far or run as fast, but he could catch a frisbee!
...throwing them was a different matter.
Rather than snapping his wrist to send the disc flying, he just sort of haphazardly through it sideways, which meant it wobbled and didn't travel very far. Jeff's brow furrowed and he shrugged.
"Teach me?"
Because when you weren't good at something, you could still learn, right? Jocelyn sat on his feet nearby, just watching and trying to discern the other spawn's mix.

"Yeah sure." Shy laughed, heading over to pick up the frisbee.
The spawn knelt down so he could see what he was doing as he adjusted Jeff's hand to hold the toy right. "You have to hold it like this then uncurl your wrist to throw it. The faster and more accurately you do it, the better it goes. Wanna try again?"

Jeff's brow furrowed in concentration, and he nodded.
"Okay."
He waited for the older spawn to return to his previous position and tried to throw again. It was still a bit wobbly and held a distinct downward trend, but it was a bit better than his last, and he was proud.

Shy extended his tail out to catch it on one of the spikes so he didn't have to go diving after it on the awkward throw. Having a tail could be so convenient.
"Good job. Keep practicing." he said, throwing it again. This time the throw was harder and less pansy since Jeff was to be expecting it.

Jeff caught the frisbee with three fingers, but it tumbled down out of his grasp again. He crouched and caught it a second time. There! Not too bad!
This throw was even better; for sure more straight although still quite wobbly and without much force.

The other boy had to lean up to catch this one with his hands, though by then it was starting to descend anyway. "Nice shot." he told Jeff, flinging it back again.
"You're getting the hang of this."

"Thanks!" Jeff said, chest puffing out slightly, "I like sports." Although, with his age, it came out more like 'spawts'. He had discovered his affinity for physical activity playing catch one day, and that was it.
He tossed the frisbee again, and there was once more visible improvement but, being a toddler, he wasn't so great with the force.
"When I get big like you I'm gonna play all kinds'a sports."

"That's pretty cool. I don't play sports much." Shy laughed, tossing the frisbee back and keeping up with the conversation. Luckily he was big enough to not have to worry about getting hit in the face if he listened to the kid and watched the frisbee at the same time.
"What kind do you like?"

Jeff shrugged, tossing the frisbee back and forth.
"All of 'em! Cept, cept like...football. Football's dumb. Why would you wanna be beat up?"

"No clue." Shy shrugged, tossing and catching again. "Don't they do that in wrestling and boxing too?"

"Oh! Yeah," Jeff nodded. He was not at the age yet where he knew wrestling was staged (not that they weren't all getting hurt anyway).
"I don' like those either."

"They're dumb." Shy agreed before stretching and yawning. "Mm it's gettin late, kiddo. I gotta get home." he said, rolling his neck a bit. "It was nice playing with ya. Keep practicing, k?" he said, tossing Jeff the frisbee and heading home. He didn't have to take it - it'd just been a quick purchase at the dollar store on his way here.
