Hello fellow gamers. After a long 3 years of playing Tau and Space Marines, I cam across some interesting conclusions
- Pretty much every fight no matter what the point cost I would use the same army and usually unless it just so happened to be better, I usually lost.
- Most armies have units that can be used in more then one roll (Tau Battlesuits, Guardsmen[anywhere really lol ], Marines, etc) So why not have a way of tallying your entire force for future planning?
I came up with this chart that is easy for any of you to make with a spreadsheet or database program. If you lack that you could always use a simple word processing program; although it would take longer:
See how on the left column I have each roll for my units colored and the quantity I possess of each. Then I can look at my army list and see that I'm missing a troop choice or something and look through to see whats available.
*I don't know if this is any help but it helped me and I don't mind sharing my idea!*

I've moved the thread here to the 40K discussion. Where it should get a better view ratio.
Personally I like the concept you are developing here. You chart seems to be some sort of rating system. Such as to compare the effectiveness of various unit combinations.
However I think you need to explain how your idea/system works more effectively. I for one am struggling to work out exactly hopw you use it, I mean I have a few idea on the issue. But I could be misinterpreting it.
If you can develop the idea further, we can possibly work with you, to develop a similar chart for other 40K armies. Maybe into Fantasy as well.

P.S. I'm going to "Sticky" this as I think it is a good idea. I would like to see what the general public thinks as well.

Yes, I too am curious to see exactly what this is all about. It seems like it could be a useful resource.

Dark-oneechan *Slaps Red Mod-style* Total points cost is a no-no as well. Unless you don't list what's in the unit. Such as, I can say MY Daemon Prince is 181 points. That won't be the price of many others.

Although this does sound like a good Idea for some armies, for me as a DaemonHunter player, I would definately say that my armie list goes through some big changes based on which army I'm playing. Also, I wouldn't think you'd make a general army list for Space Marines as well. I tend to see my friends marines (when we ally) switch up quite a bit as well.

If you wish, you may make multiple lists. I'm just saying sticking with one for every army is a bad idea in my opinion. However, it may work for some people.
The only think about multiple lists, is that if you have a set list for Orks, and Eldar, etc. I would make it so that you are willing to switch up depending on who you are playing. I know that (with the people I play with at least.) although they play the same armies, sometimes I will take different lists to fight them just because of their armie's versatilties and how they take advantages of them.

its not an army list, its an inventory.
instead of it being a squad with this many of this its more like this.
I have this model, with this gear, it falls under this area/s, and i have this many.
From there you can build your squads from what you have. This way you dont write up a list running say 2 terminators with heavy flamers, and when you go to run it you only have 1 terminator with a heavy flamer.

Building an army list in itself is annoying, but not hard. Using Excel or some other spreadsheet program makes cake of most projects like that.

Its a good idea, the points cost isn't needed and I have one that is very similar for my space marines, it makes writing quick lists much easier.
