Eve ran through a berry batch near her home in an area that according to her mother, no one owned it. It was close to lands that Ivy had said nobles owned, but the patch was an area that anyone could pick berries from.
So the ragdoll ran with a white basket in hand, hoping to get berries for Lila to make into jam. The jam would be for her mother, who was still recovering from an injury. Still the little girl knew what jam her mother loved and the berries for it was full of said berry.
Eve barely heard her mother behind her, the dark elf assassin limped behind the toddler with her face composed. Her leg was hurting more than it had for the last few days, but at least Eve was happy and that was more important to Ivy.

Adrian leapt from one branch to another before landing in the center of the berry patch gracefully. Nights had gone by with him cooped up in his office, but now he was free to spend his time however he wanted with his family.
"Are we there now?" Sophie squeezed her arms tighter around his neck, her eyes closed tight. Honestly, when he said he would come with her to pick berries, she'd imagined walking!
"Oui, dear heart," He chuckled, his accent thick as he looked over his shoulder to the quivering girl on his back. The vampire carefully plucked her off his back, then he handed her the wicker basket he had been holding. "Stay close. We are not alone."

Ivy tensed as she heard movement, her hand going to the short sword along her spine with the handle hidden by her hair. She didn't let her daughter know of the danger, but the assassin glanced around to figure where the sound came from.
Eve heard the sound too, but instead of being frightened, she walked towards where she thought it came. The toddler, having not the instincts of her mother, was merely curious about the source of the sound.
She walked to the center of the patch with her mother behind, Ivy's hand moving from the short sword as she saw that there was a child with the man. Her senses screamed at her about him being vampire.

"Alright!" Sophie carefully picked her way over a squishy piece of terrain and smoothed her dress out before sitting on her knees infront of a plump berry bush. "Look at you! Why I've never seen a riper berries than yours. And as for the rest of you, I'd pick up the pace." She nodded, happy with her advice enough to go back to picking. Within moments the berries in other bushes did look magically juicier.
Adrian tucked his long hair behind his ear and scanned the area, pin pointing the noise of approaching feet to a little ragdoll girl and a tense looking dark elf. He blinked, momentarily confused. Where had he seen them before....? Oh! "Bonjour, mademoiselles." He bowed gracefully. "It is a pleasure to see the pair of you again, though I do not expect you to remember me."
Meanwhile, the witch turned her head to see what all the fuss was about and saw Adrian talking to a strange pair.

Eve's eyes widened when she saw the man, but smiled. She knew she had seen him before, but couldn't quite remember. "I'm Eve, were you at any of the past parties?" Eve asked before the sight of the ripe berries caught her eye. The little girl ran over to a bush, wanting to pick some of the berries.
Ivy on the other hand knew him as one of the nobles, but didn't remember seeing him before. "I'm afraid not, sir. Though I do recall having heard of you." Ivy tried to be polite though she remembered one of these of the family that had raised her having faint knowledge of other vampires.

Adrian nodded to Eve. "Oui, I was. And so were my twins. It was this past winter, at a sledding event." He back stepped out of her way when she left, crossing his arms over his thin torso with a laugh. His pale cheeks warmed. "Children. They are treasures, no?"
Faintly, he kept stepping backwards until he was at Ivy's side, though not close enough to broach privacy. Adrian wandered just exactly how much she had heard of him. If the right information leaked out, that could be the end of his empire. And his family. "Oh? I can't say the same about you, madam."
Sophie popped a weird looking berry into her mouth and immediately grimaced. She leaned over towards Eve and whispered, "Don't pick these. Their really sour. Want to go find some more? Look, look! Just a ways infront of you their really juicy."

Eve thought about it and remembered the event faintly at best and didn't remember meeting twins at that time.
Ivy smiled, looking at her daughter, "Yes, they are." She felt her leg throbbing again, but hid it very well.
"In my line of work, it's a good thing that I'm somewhat unknown. I learned about the vampire nobles when I was growing up, but I've got healing to do and a daughter to raise." Ivy didn't bother with removing those with power from power, especially if they had a family.
Eve nodded, "Thanks for the advice. I want to pick enough to make jam for my mother." The ragdoll went to the spot that the girl had said had good berries.
"I'm Eve," she said to the girl with a smile and her hand held out slightly to the girl.

Respectfully, he didn't inquire as to what she did to make a living. "A wise choice on your part. It would pain me to see anything happen to such a happy family." He wasn't saying it to intimidate her, because he was speaking the truth. His heart would break in two if he had to see them destroyed. "Your healing?"
Sophie smiled, "Thats really kind. I'm making some for my husband." She hiked up her shirt and followed after Eve, grasping the other girls hand warmly. "My name's Sophie. And if these thorns had a soul in their vines, they wouldn't let us get cut up! So step out of the way."
She made a shooing motion and they dutifully shrunk back to leave a path. Sophie smiled smugly. "Thank you."

Ivy was glad that he hadn't asked what she did to provide for her daughter. She nodded in agreement, but she would defend herself if she was attacked. She smiled slightly, "I got injured on the job and I'm still healing from that."
"Does he like black berries?" Eve asked, not bothered by Sophie holding her hand. She was used to being hugged and having others hold her hand.
Eve stepped back at Sophie' warning. The ragdoll didn't want to get thorns in her skin, according to her mother, it was painful.
"Who's your husband?" Eve asked as she thought children didn't marry each other.

Adrian kicked up a stone from the ground and bounced it over his knees, feet and shins to keep himself moving. He moved quickly and gracefully, demonstrating his centuries old skills with a hacky sack. "I hope it heals quickly. Have you any means of providing for the two of you in the mean time?"
Sophie blinked. "You know, I don't know." That was so odd to her. Either she couldn't remember the fact or it had never come up, which was unlikely. "His name's Howl, Howl Pendragon. Jenkins if we're in Wales."

Ivy watched him with a smile, impressed slightly. She nodded, "I'll hopefully be back to work next week. I've earned enough to provide for my household for a month at least." She merely didn't like not being to train for the moment.
"I hope he likes the berries anyway." Eve tilted her head to the side, remembering Howl from a party that her mother had let her attend alone. "I remember him, St. Patrick's Day."

Adrian back kicked the stone over his head and bounced it on his knee. "Thats good. If you lack for anything, feel free to look me up. I've been financially blessed as of late." Even though he was born a human noble, for the better part of his life (human and vampire) he'd been flat broke. Only since coming to Gaia did he have funds.
"Me too. He hardly eats anything, but I'll get him." She picked a berry for herself and popped it in, sighing a little. So good! "You do? .....How nice was he?"

"We'll be fine, but thank you," Ivy had been raised as her profession and managed to earn enough to provide for Eve for some of her life at one time. She didn't spend money lightly unless her daughter needed something.
"My mommy loves black berries. She doesn't like to eat much either," Eve picked a few berries and put them in her basket. "I saw him when Mommy asked a few friends of mine to watch me during the party. I didn't speak with him, but he seemed friendly."

Sophie smiled and carefully plucked berries for her basket. Some were so fresh they squished between her fingers. "He's friendly, alright. Exspecially to girls." She stated plainly. "He's vain, whiny, self-absorbed and pushy. But, I like him well enough." Sophie smiled and turned to face the girl. "What about you? Do you fancy anyone yet?"

Howl hadn't seemed that way when Eve had seen him, but then again, she hadn't been around him enough to be able to tell. Eve shook her head, "No, should I?" Eve asked as she had no interest in anyone at the moment.
Ivy sighed when she heard her daughter ask that, the assassin already knowing that explaining why a girl sometimes likes a boy is important would be annoying and very difficult, considering her daughter's age.
