Everything that had happened in the last few days just felt like one disaster after another, and with each moment it just felt like it was getting worse and worse. the Doctor kicking everyone else out so Faleen could rest… didn’t help, it left Faleen to think, on her own, with nothing but her Pokemon within arm’s reach, she didn’t do her best thinking while sitting and doing nothing, self reflection didn’t work right for her in this environment! Her fingers had gotten pretty twitchy with nothing to do, the lights were so bright to her, and the drugs did little to dull the throbbing ache her entire body felt. Not one to dwell on her problems for much longer, she found something to do, A way to help her level her mind. That task, involved a plastic spoon from one of the meals that were brought to her by the nurse, and her Umbreon’s pokeball. The spoon was no screwdriver, but she made due. Leaning back against the inclined bed, allowing her to sit up a little, she could relax, despite how gross she felt. this was a challenge for sure, they were not playing around when they contracted a pokeball, there were parts of it that just… would not come apart with a plastic utensil carving at it, what few screws she did get out, and the parts she could, were laying neatly on her good hip, or the bed tray in front of her. The whole time, her Umbreon sat up strait over the covers by her legs, watching her progress with wide, almost mortified red eyes.

One good arm didn't leave you with many options, although the more Hayes heard about shoulder wounds, the more he learned he was lucky the bullet had struck his deltoid muscle rather than a vital artery or the delicate joint. Several things about that mission had been lucky when you considered them one by one.
And it had been very good cake.
"Faleen?" he called, waiting for a reply before he shouldered the door open. When he saw the grunt, the apprehensive Umbreon and the half-dismantled Pokeball, he grinned slightly.
"Wow. Looks like I got here just in time."

An outside voice caused Faleen to look up from her temporary project; it took her a moment to realize that someone was at her door. “yes?” Blinking as she slowly lowered the pokeball into her lap, watching Hayes pushing into the room.
“Hayes… uh Sir.” She said after a hesitation “I guess I’ll be getting used to calling you that now won’t I” She tilting her head, following his gaze to her Umbreon’s pokeball “uh… probably, Umbreon’s been looking worse the more I take off” she glanced over to her dark eon, who lowered his head below his shoulders slightly peering back at her.

"Heh." The agent shook his head, looking a little embarrassed at the title. "Nah, just stick with Hayes. Anyway, here." He held up the books he was carrying and moved close enough to deposit a fat blue hardcover textbook at the foot of Faleen's bed. It had seen some use; its corners were rounded, the gloss of its cover dulled, and a fluorescent orange 'USED' sticker still stuck to the spine, which read Introduction to Machine Learning.
"I don't know where you're at learning-wise, but that's a good start if you want to know AI. This-" The blond grinned and tossed a small, even more battered paperback labeled Neuromancer in tall orange letters on top of the textbook, "-is just for fun."
While he talked, a little white face under an odd yellow headdress peered around the doorway at head height. "Fun?" a childish voice echoed, heard rather than spoken, and a small figure floated into the room, trailing soft yellow streamers.

Watching him carefully, hoping that he didn’t take her acknowledgment of his new status as an insult, but she noted his preference. She continued to watch as a book was dropped onto her bed, able to make out the color, the title, and the fact that it was quite used, glancing quickly back up at him with an inquisitive look as he explained what it was used for, and then her eyes grew slightly wider in pleasant surprise. “Oh!” AI was definitely something she wanted to learn more about, remote control was one thing, but to actually be able to program some form of intelligence into one of her machines… she would love nothing more.
Faleen tried to lean forward to pick it up, but she didn’t get very far before the stiffness and pain in her side stopped her, and injured young women was left holding and arm out, trying to reach the book that was too far away from her currant reaching ability.
At this Umbreon was on his feet, moving over to where the book was laying and ducking his head down to nose the text book closer, so she could get it.
Finally grabbing it, Faleen sat back, looking over the warn out cover, but handling it as delicately and respectfully as if it was a brand new book, slowly turning the pages when she picked a random spot to open up to. "Oh wow..." she said quietly, almost to herself as she skimmed through some of the pages. But by the time the second book was tossed down, she looked over at it, distracted. “For fun?” the grunt tilted her head just enough to be able to read it, "what kind of fu-“ before she could ask about it though, a second voice, and the appearance of a very strange pokemon came floating into the room
“Oh my- did that Pokémon just say something?” she said, sounding concerned, she didn’t THINK those drugs were that powerful.

Judging by the agent's grin, he was pleased with Faleen's reaction to the books. "It's intro undergrad," Hayes was quick to point out. "And there's a lot of notes.." He trailed off when she reached forward, but Umbreon assisted her.
The book was, as he'd alluded to, heavily highlighted, certain pages dog-eared, and full of pencil notes in the margins. Someone had set about understanding as much of the material as they could.
At the sound of the Jirachi's voice, Hayes half-turned and smiled to the little 'mon. "Hey Al, c'mere," the blond motioned to the star-shaped creature, which beamed and floated over. Its streamers rippled in the air, defying gravity, as its voice appeared in their minds without bothering to pass through its mouth. 'Hayes!' It was small and childlike, with a curious echo effect.
"He's a telepath. It," the agent corrected himself, as the Jirachi tilted its head and floated closer to Faleen. "Part of a project for Cloning." He grinned. "Go 'head and introduce yourself. His name is Alphard."
'Alphard!' it echoed and tried to make sense of the textbook cover upside down.

She didn’t mind the notes at all, in fact, she knew she was going to find them quite useful. Faleen didn’t have much time with the topic of the books before Hayes was gesturing a small white pokemon in, one Faleen had never seen or heard of before. Closing the book she had in her hands, tilting her head and glancing down at what it was trying to look at “…” she turned to book upside down to it would read the cover… if it could read.
“Cloning? So this things a clone?” she asked to confirm while looking up at Hayes once more, only to return her light eyes to the very innocent looking creature floating in front of her. Aa clone of what exactly?” she finished, finally lowering the book onto her lap, careful not to lose any parts from Umbreon’s Pokeball.
Hayes had said it was using telepathy to communicate, as far as she knew, no pokemon was able to communicate with humans other then body language and expression, so needless to say, she was surprised to be able to hold a conversation, even if the conversation s far consisted of single words and names. The fact that this pokemon was using Telepathy though lead her to believe that it was at least part Psychic… if not all, this assumption caused Faleen to eye the pokemon closely. “Alphard,” she continued. “My name is Faleen, Alphard” she introduced herself at Hayes’ suggestion. It sounded like a young child, the way it acted… how curious it was, being closed it had to be young, but my it was so childlike, Not something one would usually see with a Rocket. Then again, Hayes didn’t look or act much like your typical Rocket either.
Umbreon stayed where he was sitting, large red eyes turned on the star pokemon floating around, watching it closely as it got close to his master.

When Faleen turned the book upside down, the little Pokemon turned upside down, rotating in the air. The little teal tags attached to its star-like headdress dangled and what looked like sleeves on the edges of its arms fluttered, though it wore no discernible clothes. "Faaaaleen," it cooed with a cherubic smile, turning slowly in the air.
"A Jirachi," the blond answered. "They're psychic/steel types - real ones sleep for a thousand years and grant wishes. Cloning wants to make sure their mods won't make this little guy explode or something." Why they gave him that task was worth pondering.
"Bwoooum!" went Alphard, doing a very good impression of an iMac booting up. Hayes grinned and tapped the little legendary, making it spin the other way.
"Anyway, that's why he's hanging out with me," he continued, remembering to add, "Don't let him hear you swear or anything; he picks stuff up fast."

“Jirachi” She repeated, trying to remember if she had heard of a pokemon like that before. It didn’t take her long to come to the conclusion that she had not. Sleeping for thousands of years? That sounds like a highly ineffective Pokemon, but if Rockets found a way past that… still, the thing was like a child… a child that was very good at sound effects. “I should not be surprised that you taught it that” came her comment after hearing the booting iMac, though her brows arched when he told her not to swear, “learned that the hard way I take it?”
Umbreon continued to watch the Jirachi floating around, remaining still, and for the most part, uninterested. with an opposite interest of his teammate however, a dark shaded pokemon came twirling into view from thin air it seemed, a skirted body flaring out slightly as the ghost descended down with a gentle “Shup” large eyes blinking at the Jirachi.
Faleen lowered her gaze a little, back to the book as Shuppet came back into view. Despite the fact that she would love to get lost in it right now, she had company, so the book was moved off next to her for later. “Shuppet, respect its space” she gently reminded her Ghost.

"Yeah, Seth was in a mood and.. well, like I said," Hayes demurred, hand raising to his hair with a sheepish grin. "He likes the Mac noises, so that should help training the others out."
As he talked, the Jirachi righted itself and floated above his head, where it suddenly plopped down. Judging by Hayes' lack of reaction apart from a slight smile, the behavior was already a common occurrence.
Alphard raised its head when the Shuppet appeared with a curious little "Um?" and floated up a few inches, drifting. "Hey!"
Hayes glanced up at the aerial ballet taking place over his head. "Another Dark-type?" he inquired lightly, watching the two circle about.

Her amused smile faltered for a moment at the mention of the elite, continuing to watch the Jirachi floating around as Hayes talked. With a light breath, she returned her thoughts to the immediate moment; it was pointless to worry, as hard as it was not to. Her smile became more genuine when the little star-mon sat itself on Hayes’ head, both amused by its choice of perch, and how Hayes seemed used to it already.
After her Shuppet appeared and she lightly requested he be aware of his behavior. She looked back to Hayes when he inquired about it. “No” she said lightly, reaching up to brush her hair behind her ear, there was a hint of disappointment in her answered “Shuppet’s only ghost type” tilting her head as she looked back to her misfit pokemon “he does have pretty dark colors though” she added, finding some positive.
“Shupp shupp!” he smiled brightly swirling a little as he kept facing the Jirachi

Hayes caught that disappointed look - both of them. "Dark's your favorite, huh?" he guessed, as Alphard danced around the Shuppet, giggling. "Shup!" the Jirachi echoed, pleased with the new sound. "Shup! Shup! Aalphard!"
"..anyway," the blond shifted his stance a little while Alphard babbled on, "Long as I'm here. About what Kofuku said - I should probably clear things up."

"They are" came her simple reply, there was no question about that, none. And then the subject shifted, to a less polite, casual topic. Faleen let out a heavier breath through her nose, taking it slow since breathing hard sometime hurt. “That sounds like a good idea” she continued, she wasn’t looking too pleased, but she kept her expression in check, and her tone. She had heard what Kofuku said, and she had caught what he tried to say, she might as well hear him out before she said what was on her mind about the subject… with his permission of course.
“Shu, Shuppet!” the ghost snickered in amusement at the Jirachi, Floating after it, then suddenly going invisible again.

Explaining things to females: it almost never went well. Especially when they had that expression.
"Okay," Hayes started off, as reasonably as if he were explaining the basics of a Turing machine rather than an interaction that ended with him covered in baked goods, "So a couple days before, Kofuku stopped me in the cafeteria. She knew we were both on the list and asked if I'd keep an eye on you so you wouldn't get hurt. I said 'Sure.'" There was a slight pause before the word that indicated he was quoting.
The blond smiled ruefully and shrugged with his good shoulder. "I guess she took it as a promise."
Unaware of the serious conversation, Alphard spun in a slow circle when the ghost disappeared. "Shup?" he asked, looking around. A moment later he vanished too, then reappeared on the far side of the room. "Shup?"
Hayes looked that way. "Al," he called, then turned his attention back to Faleen.

Inclining her head down a little when she heard that, glancing to her Umbreon, “That sounds like kofuku” came her quiet comment. “I can see how she misunderstood.” Kofuku was so nervous about all of it, she probably jumped on that ‘sure’ so quickly. Taking a moment to look over at Alphard as it looked around for the invisible Shuppet, and then drew her attention back over to Hayes. “It’s no one’s responsibility to look after me, especially with the situation you were in. hopefully I can make her understand that.” “I’m a little disappointed she would ask that of someone, and I hope you don’t take this as and offence, but please don’t agree to anything like that in the future.” She needed to learn how to take better care of herself, especially now that she was a rocket; she didn’t need body guards or white knights, not in Rocket. As a team they needed to help each other out, but not by personal promises or bonds of friendship. “You got hurt yourself, others did to didn’t they?”
Shuppet snickered again from where he was floating, watching Alphard teleport across the room “Shup!” he called to it, trying to give it a hint as to where he was at.
