User ImageSeveral days had passed since the horrible failure of a mission. Since the filing of Seth and TRP's report many people had suffered threats of demotion in addition to their debilitating injuries. The report did speak highly of a handful of rockets; those who helped salvage the mission from total disaster. Among these was Hayes, who had been promoted in the days since for his successful work with 1337 and helping lead the group to safety.

With most of the group bandaged up well enough to hobble around many of the injured had been sent back to their quarters to heal and await further instruction. It was around 10 in the morning that TRP got a call from the Executive Agent she worked under with orders to report to Lab Facility B. But not alone..

It was about 10:30 when she arrived at Hayes' door and knocked. She was back in uniform, leaning on a crutch. Furin floated near her head, happy to be out and about. Being confined to TRP's room with the injured rocket wasn't exactly exciting.

"Hold up," a male voice called. It sounded distracted.

A quarter of a minute later Hayes opened his door. His injured arm and collarbone excluded uniforms from the agent's wardrobe, but he'd done the best he could with what he was allowed, which was basically button-up shirts and slacks.

At least it was a nice button-up shirt.

A slice of his quarters was visible beyond him. As might be expected of a programmer's room, there was a computer. Actually, there were a few computers, and what looked like a half-dismantled pair of high-tech gloves laid out on his desk beside pages of notes. Other than that the room seemed fairly standard for a male - bed not yet made, hamper close to overflowing, a battered copy of Neuromancer tented over a thick softcover edition of The Art of Deception lying on one of the computer towers.

He smiled pleasantly to his superior and offered his usual two-fingered salute and a polite "Ma'am," then glanced over his shoulder. "Switch, you coming?"

After a few seconds, a sleepy-looking Pikachu emerged from beneath a comforter.

User ImageTRP offered Hayes a nod and stepped back to give him room to step into the hall. "S'pose you already know where we're going?"

"Piiiika," the 'chu mumbled, sliding rather than clambering down to the carpet and taking the comforter with him in the process. The electric mouse shook himself and trotted out into the hall where he scratched at his ear and stretched, catlike. A little spark jumped off his tail.

"Cloning labs?" Hayes confirmed as he slipped out of his room and shut the door. The lock clicked to behind him.

User Image"Mmhmm." She confirmed, nodding. "You're one of the only Agents from the mission being rewarded instead of reprimanded. Should look nice on your record." She turned to clomp toward the elevator.

Furin drifted down to Switch's level, smiling serenely at the sleepy pikachu. "Chiiiime."
PostPosted: Mon Mar 29, 2010 10:17 pm

"Heh." The now-agent ducked his head and ran his good hand through his hair, looking a bit embarrassed at the indirect praise. Hayes kept to TRP's pace as she moved down the corridor. When they got to the elevators he added, "The downloader worked. Everything else is gravy."

Switch cocked his head to the side and blinked blearily at the bell Pokemon. "P'ka?" It was somewhere between a greeting and a question, but their trainers were moving off and he scampered to catch up with Hayes, sticking fairly close.

User Image"Mmm. We're fortunate the mission wasn't a complete failure. Hopefully the police don't consider the outcome a victory." She hit the elevator button after Switch and Furin were in.

Several floors down the doors opened again to reveal the science level. Something about this area seemed a little bit darker and more sterile than the rest of HQ. TRP didn't seem bothered by it. Probably because she used to work in a similar setup years ago when Team Rocket was under different command.

She clomped onward down a narrow hall, ignoring flickering lights from passing windows. "How many Pokemon do you have?"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 29, 2010 10:46 pm

The Rocket slipped his good hand into his pocket and leaned back on his heels, watching the lit-up floor number get progressively lower and start rising again, preceded by an 'L'. "Might not be so bad if they did," he commented in his mild way. "If they think it's that easy, they might underestimate us next time."

It wasn't Hayes' first time down there. To the sometimes annoyance of the tech department, the rest of the base saw no distinction between "computer scientist" and "tech support." He'd been called down more than once to take a look at the equipment, and had discovered even NMR machines use Linux.

Switch sniffed with distaste at the metallic tang in the air, ears angling back. This place smelled of chemicals and stale electricity, not the fresh sort straight from a thunderstorm. If he'd known they were coming here, he'd have stayed in bed.

Hayes had to think about TRP's question.

"Six. Technically."

User ImageShe continued down the hall, annoyed by her slow pace. "Technically?" She was looking at numbers on doors now, waiting for the right room to come up.

"I have a Beldum. It's.. inert." Hayes glanced at doors as they went past, flickering lights reflected off his glasses. "It's alive, don't get me wrong, it just doesn't do anything. Tests say it's processing like hell under the surface, though, so something's going on. Ma'am," he added, as if to temper the profane slip.

User Image"Don't worry about the ma'am, Hayes." With the exception of new recruits, TRP was pretty laid back. She saved the hard-a** routine for the fresh meat. "How did it end up inert, exactly? Was it always like that?"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 29, 2010 11:36 pm

"TRP, then?" It didn't exactly roll off the tongue. Hayes waited a moment for confirmation before continuing on. "Agent Reckless picked it up in the raid on Makko Town. Switch shocked it-"

"Piiika," came the peevish response from the aforementioned 'chu.

"-but it was running slow before that. She said it belonged to 'some geek'-" and there may just have been a note of mild indignation in the blond's tone, "-working on a laptop, so my guess is it's devoting all those clock cycles to some big task and shut down auxiliary functions apart from eating. Haven't cracked it yet."

User Image"Interesting. You'll have to let me know if you find out what it's doing. Ah, here we go.." She stopped at a door on their right and tugged an ID card out of her pocket. She swiped the card in a little reader on the wall. The door clicked and slid open.

This was the lab where very high profile cloning was done. Elaborate containment units of varying size dotted the room. At the far end was a space obviously meant to contain much larger creations. Much much larger. The left wall was lined with large glass tubes filled with a greenish liquid. Wires dangled in most of them, but a couple contained rare and legendary Pokemon. None of them appeared to be awake.

"You're here!" Announced a slender man in a long white coat. He crossed the room to join the pair, "You're late. I was starting to wonder."

TRP Sighed, "Give it a rest, Allen... I have bum leg. Let's see them.."

"Right.." The man grunted, looking annoyed. He turned on a heel and led the pair across the room to a row of short metal containment units. They were basically boxes dotted with blinking LED lights and screens flashing various information. Most of the lights were green and several visible screens said "stable". "These are from the first successful batch.." He muttered, tapping buttons, "Only got the dna a few weeks ago.. been working 'round the clock.." He hit one last button and the two closest boxes made a sort of hissing sound before swinging open. Inside each one was a sleeping Jirachi.

"Second one has some abnormal coloration.." He gestured vaguely at the unusual star-shaped markings on one Jirachi's head charms, "Everything else reads normal, though. Shouldn't be a problem. They'll wake up momentarily." He straightened up and fixed his gaze on Hayes and TRP, "These aren't just gifts. These are an assignment. You're taking these to ensure there's nothing wrong. Jirachi can talk, you know.. telepathy.. very complicated Pokemon. There could be problems our readings don't show.. can't tell you how much trouble we had when we started Mewtwos..." He sighed and rubbed his chin, "So many wasted clones. ...We think we've ironed things out early with this one but we have to be sure. Had to make a lot of modifications. Real Jirachi spend most of their time in hibernation, of course. Had to work that out.. ...they might be tired more than you'd expect, but if they won't wake up we need to know." He eyed the pair of eager Rockets and grunted, "You can pick them up."

"Will do," Hayes said shortly before they were ushered in.

A grunt, which he'd been not all that long ago, wasn't allowed access to a place like this no matter their debugging abilities, so the agent looked like more a sightseer here, glancing this way and that to note the growth chambers and the forms sleeping within. Here, something sleek and streamlined; there, just starting to grow feathers..

His attention focused on Allen when the scientist entered; Hayes straightened his posture a bit, and Switch bumped into his leg. The Pikachu wasn't fond of this room, and stayed close as they were led to the containment units and their role was explained.

Given his short notice, Hayes hadn't had time to do much research regarding the millennial wish-granters, so he wasn't quite sure to expect. Still, when the scientist gave leave, he gave a brief smile of comprehension to the man and stepped forward to look in the nearest box. He started to reach in, stopped, and adjusted his arm to scoop rather than lift the legendary out with a careful expression, cradling it in the crook of his arm.

The Jirachi's chest rose and fell, but it was silent. Switch squinted at it in suspicion.

Hayes was about to say something to the scientist when there was a tiny "Un." and the weight on his arm lessened as the Pokemon floated up, blinking slowly. "Huh..?"

"Hey, little guy," Hayes said quietly when it looked at him, watching it with his mellow smile.

A little smile grew on its face. "Hey..!" it echoed as its streamers unfurled.

At this point the little legendary lost control of its levitation and dropped on the agent's foot.

User ImageTRP watched as Hayes greeted his new Pokemon. Her vague smile turned to a wince when the little Pokemon dropped out of the air.

She looked back at the containment unit in front of her to see the other Jirachi was starting to wake up. Blinking, she reached forward to pick up the tiny Legendary. The Jirachi dangled between TRP's hands and slowly opened its eyes. It regarded the Rocket sleepily.

TRP smiled. "Hello."

"Hel.. lo?" A small voice answered, though the Jirachi's mouth didn't move.

"My name is Terra. I'll be your trainer."

"Terra.." Well Jirachis were good at repeating things. They'd learned that much. The little Pokemon's sleepy expression turned to a smile, "Terra!"

"That's right." She smirked.

Meanwhile Furin hovered over TRP's shoulder, eyeing the new psychic type curiously, "Chii.."

"Yes well this is all adorable." Allen hit another button and the two containment units snapped shut, "Here are their Poke Balls." He handed each of the Rockets a master ball. Legendary creations at TRHQ tended to be kept in master balls. These were expensive creations. They didn't need to risk any attempts at escape. "You'll have a report due on their progress tomorrow afternoon. Check your inbox." And he turned to leave.

TRP watched him go, "Never really liked that guy."
