Has anyone ever seen this documentary? I seen it just last week and really liked it alot, but is that thing Woody said about all milk products true? Is all dairy full of blood and puss??
And do any of you consume dairy products on a regular basis?
I know I do, but thinking about what they said is making me think twice about it...

Have you seen the Age of Stupid?

When I was in Wales they showed me a small video about the "Tipping Point" (the environmental point of no return). By the end of the movie there were stick figures shooting each other.

Some documentaries are vulgar.

I havent seen the Age of Stuipid but I did watch a documentary similar to what you are describing, it was called Human Stupidity. Parts made me laugh, while other parts made me depressed...

The reasoning behind the "blood and puss" argument is that cows who are bred for milk never stop having young so that their milk production never ceases. The udders never have a chance to not be engorged and mastitis set in. Most are fed antibiotics constantly to prevent it. They're also fed hormones to keep t he milk flowing and the bulls are fed growth hormones. That means milk either has blood and puss in it or antibiotics or both, along with hormones.

It makes sense when it's explained but I hate how people say things without explaining why. It makes the argument sound stupid when in this case at least it's based of fact.

Thank you!!
It is nice to have some proof to back up what they were saying in the movie, especially when they didnt bother with details...
So what's the alternative? Does organic milk also have blood and puss? Is it unhealthy to have a diet without dairy at all?

Ick. I never drink milk because I feel sorry for the cows, always being pregnant. I would hate always being pregnant =( I'm trying to be vegan but cheese is just sooo good. I can't give cheese up lol.

As long as you get your calcium and vitamin D you don't need dairy. You can buy soy, almond, coconut or rice milk. I don't use soy products so I've been using Almond Breeze from Blue Diamond and it tastes great. As for cheese, Galaxy Foods makes some cheese alternatives that are pretty nice. depending on where you live you might find some locally produced milk that isn't from over-bred cows.

The whole idea of milk is gross if you've been to a dairy farm or had cows. They've always got poop all over them even on a good day. You definitely want to be sure the stuff is pasteurized.

There are some vegans around that will be more help than me since I just avoid it, I'm not totally off it. Do try the almond milk though!

When I first heard this I was terribly grossed out and couldn't drink milk for a day or two. I forced myself to get over it though because I can't allow myself to stop eating because of things like this. Nearly all cheap, low-grade food (which is what I buy) is intensively farmed which means pretty shitty lives for the animals and ultimately some unappetizing results in the products.

I feel for the cows and all, but I do not have the luxury of eating a guilt-free diet. As for getting too grossed out to eat puss and blood tainted dairy products, well, I likely ingest more puss and blood from the mouth sores I get as a result of biting my cheek than I do from the amount of milk I consume, so that reasoning helps me get through my morning cereal.

Oh I feel this one! But at the same time, I am working my a** off so that someday I can afford better quality food. And doing my own gardening seems like a pretty good start for me...
I just hope this trend of low-quality food for high production will one day come to an end...

I am not informed on this subject matter but I thought that the reason why there is blood and puss in milk is because the cows are being milked by machines that keep on milking them even when they don't have milk in them so instead blood and puss come out?
I drink a lot of milk but only organic milk and if that has milk and puss in it, well too bad I really like milk.

I've heard that so many times and I still drink milk..
If I had the money to buy everything organic I totally would; but I don't.

Apparently, you're safer if you're drinking Canadian milk.

Here's how I get over it. There are insects in muffins. There is mouse fur in sugar. How many birds do you think relieve themselves over farm fields each year? There are mold spores in bread, otherwise it wouldn't get moldy. These impurities cannot be avoided unless every food and food product is handled in a hermetically clean environment, even on the farm. So the choice is either to avoid all food or grown a thick skin. The situation is nowhere near as potentially dire as it was a hundred years ago.

There is some truth to this, yes. Although it's more often irritation caused by the machines, developing sores which come in contact with the expelled milk.

However, it should be noted that not all dairy farms allow this to occur to their cows. Nominal's links point out that Canada has a better record for clean milk than, say, the U.S. has.

If it really bothers anyone, most nations still have ways to purchase milk from low-quantity producers. Not having milking machines on their cows all the time results in healthier udders and richer milk.
