The patron this morning had requested a rose. Jianyu did not like roses. He frowned at the man's bare back, dipping his needle into the red dye and bringing it to the man's shoulder blade. Though it was not like he could deny the service, since the man was Lau Shen; a frequent, very high-paying customer who often came to the Qian Tattoo House. Trained in his father's art, Jianyu was permitted to tattoo only the patrons that requested him, which was not often. After all, his father, Qian Liwei, was the reason that most came to the House, but Lau Shen did not seem to mind that Liwei's son sometimes performed the art instead of his father.
After a few moments, Jianyu moved his needle away, carefully examining the outline of the rose. Satisfied that it was what he wanted, Jianyu picked up the next needle, dipping it into the green ink and went back to work.
He was interrupted, however, by one of his siblings.
"Yuu, there's someone at the front entrance for you."
Jianyu paused, looking up at his brother. "I am with a customer." he said. "Please either send them away, or tell them I will be with them momentarily."
Junjie was already walking away. "Or tell them to come back here." he said. "I've already told them to come back and talk to you here."

While Kyung would have normally stayed at home, an important matter had been brought to his attention that forced the effeminate male to leave the comfort of his room. But, only because Bataar could not keep his mouth shut. The Mongolian had felt it necessary to shout out his exploits of the day to Kyung and it had come to a detailed account of a fight between Bataar and Jianyu. Much to Kyung's distress and aggravation, he had found out that Jianyu's bow had been snapped in half. An archer with out a bow, it was like a fish out of water.
So, Kyung had taken it upon himself to hire Zemar. A renown woodsmith whose bows were sought by both Legion and Nobles alike. With gentle words and the ever persuasive sound of clinking coins, he had commissioned the man with ease. Waiting for a week while the craftsman worked on the bow, it was much to his delight to find the man's delivery boy standing outside his gate with a large bundle wrapped in azure silk.
That was two days ago. Now he was standing outside the Qian Tattoo House hypersensitive to all the pairs of eyes focused on him. Luckily, this place was one of neutral ground, both Legions and Nobles favored the shops and fights were rare... if nothing short of nonexistent. With the azure bundle held tightly in his arms, he spoke rapidly to an older Lunarian who looked uncannily similar to Jianyu. With a mention of Jianyu's name, the Lunarian had disappeared, leaving the young noble standing at the tattoo parlor's entrance with an open invitation.
With tentative steps, he entered the building and scanned the room. Now to find him.

Jianyu did not appreciate his brother's blatant dismissal of the fact that he was, in fact, with a patron. With a resigned sigh, he told Lau Shen that he would return momentarily, and stood up, crossing the room. Junjie had obviously just let whoever it was that had come to visit at the entrance, so Jianyu made his way to the front of the spacious House, the walk taking him a few moments. When he saw who was standing just inside the foyer, Jianyu's eyes widened slightly and he frowned.
"Tae...Kyung..?" he said with some confusion. "What...are you doing here?"

Kyung turned when he heard his name. He gave Jianyu a small smile that quickly disappeared when he saw the frown on the other's face.
"I- I came to deliver this to you Jianyu."
Fumbling with the azure package, he held it out for the Legionnaire.
"Bataar, he told me of how he broke your bow. I thought perhaps you did not have a replacement and commissioned this one from Zemar. He is a wonderful woodsmith from what I hear. I hope it is to your taste, I have not unwrapped yet, leaving the honor for you."
The bundle was a little smaller than Kyung with a length of approximately 64 inches. Only six inches smaller than Kyung's own height to be exact. It was the length of a typical long bow.

Jianyu saw Kyung's cheerful expression falter when he frowned and felt slightly guilty. He hadn't meant to sound as if he didn't want visitors, though he supposed that was how he had come off. But his confused expression disappeared when he heard the reasoning for the other man's visit.
"I..." Jianyu said, then stopped, unsure of what to say. Reaching out, he hesitantly took the cloth-wrapped bundle, carefully pulling away the azure colored fabric to reveal a sleek, mahogany wood long bow with intricate carved details on the ends and handhold.
Jianyu was at a loss for words. He stared at the bow for a few moments before stammering "I...it's...
"It's...beautiful." he finished finally, and a rare smile crossed his features. "That moron, Bataar...he had the misfortune to break my bow, yes, but this...it's.."
He turned back to Kyung, bowing his head in a sign of respect.
"I am unsure of why you are showing me such compassion," Jianyu said. "But I thank you for your kindness and generosity."
Though still confused as to the reasoning behind Kyung's generosity, Jianyu was nonetheless pleased and said "Would you...care to join me for an early lunch? I can have my sisters prepare something for us. It is not much, compared to your gift, but it is at least a small token of my gratitude."

Kyung was pleased with Jianyu's reaction to the bow and therefore pleased with the bow. Though he appreciated the art of archery, he was a greenhorn when it came to recognizing what was good and bad. For Jianyu, an archer, to approve of the bow meant that the wood smith had done a fine job.
"I am glad you like it. Compassion? No, I felt obliged. My father hired Bataar as a bodyguard of sorts for me... so, yes. I believe my actions are sufficiently justified."
There was more than that but Kyung wasn't about to say. In a way, he felt drawn towards the male. There was something in him that he saw in himself. Perhaps the lack of words?
Hearing Jianyu's invitation for lunch, Kyung bit his lip. To turn it down would be rude but to eat it would be just as dangerous for himself. His stomach took badly to food that wasn't prepared by Tian Li.
"I am honored." He said with a small smile. A meal with Jianyu meant more time to interact with him and more chances to understand and figure out what drew him to Jianyu.

Jianyu smiled slightly at the explanation. Dipping his head slightly in a small bow of respect, he motioned for the other man to follow him. He crossed over the threshold and led Kyung over towards the small, enclosed area just to the small, enclosed room just to the side of the main kitchens. The Qian Household served only partially as a tattoo parlor. The spacious building was also home to most of Jianyu's family and several extended family. With over two dozen bedrooms alone, it also contained several large kitchens, a few smaller cooking areas, and both a large dining hall and also a smaller, more intimate dining area. It was the smallest dining area that Jianyu took Kyung, and he offered him a seat before taking the one across the table.
"How did you come to be across the Qian Tattoo Parlor?" Jianyu asked as he motioned for the servers to prepare some food. They disappeared into the kitchens and soon the scent of spices was wafting over them. "Er, I mean...how...how do you...like it...?"
For some reason, Jianyu was slightly anxious. He did not understand why he felt so ill at ease, but he wanted to make sure that the other Lunarian felt comfortable, and he was not at all sure that he was.

Kyung took the offered seat and smelled the air tentatively. This could be bad... given his weak stomach he didn't eat much aside from gruel and porridge. The food was probably going to be solid... made by someone he didn't know. So there was no telling what was in it. Not that he believed Jianyu would ever try and kill him or anything. Just eating this might leave him puking for days and then... he'd loose all that weight he worked so hard to gain.
Too late now. He'd have to man up. Besides, it would be rude not to eat the food.
"It's very nice. However... it is certainly not the kind of place I would spend my free time at. I prefer some place a little more intimate and quiet."
Kyung wasn't very social. He didn't have very many friends. In fact, he didn't even have one of those so called 'best' friends. When he had Murasaki and Inden for company, entities whose intellect rivaled his, he had no need for others to keep him company. They were his family, his friends.
"This place is very fitting for you, Jianyu."
He had no idea what brought on that comment.

Jianyu glanced up as his sister came out of the kitchen, two small bowls in her hand. She set them down on the table in front of each of them, and Jianyu gave a small nod to Chuntao. She smiled at him, her eyes flitting briefly to rest on Kyung before turning and disappearing back into the kitchen. Jianyu's gaze moved back to Kyung's.
"Yes, I am afraid that the Qian Tattoo House is quite...large." he said, with a rueful laugh. The smell of rice and mixed vegetables came wafting up to him, and Jianyu took a small bite before he continued speaking.
"'Fitting for me?'" he repeated, his brows drawing together in confusion. "I do not...quite understand your meaning."
Jianyu was quite impressed by the way that Kyung seemed to speak. His words flowed easily from his throat, careful and calculated, each word pronounced with a crispness and a clarity that Jianyu did not have. He found he rather liked it, and there was the smallest twinge of envy that he himself could not speak as fluently.
"Do you like the food?" he asked.
