User ImageKanya was relaxing beneath a young tree. She knew it was young because even though the wind was not blowing hard the branches above her head were swaying more then larger, thicker branches would have. That and she searched for a low branch, one of the thicker ones, and found that it bent under a little force, defiantly not strong enough for anything other then a bird. This was fine for her because even though she was a leopardess she rarely climbed trees. Being blind is not a issue when she has the time to safely enter and exit a tree but it is those times when speed is required that it is just not a good idea.

The day was warm with just light breeze to ruffle through her red fur. The sun was high in the sky playing hide and seek with the white fluffy clouds. Birds were flying here and their singing and calling out to each other. The day was a day for relaxing so that is what Kanya did. She was already in a comfortable position beneath the tree so she closed her eyes, which were useless anyway, and listened to the world around her. As she lay there listening to the birds, the wind, the tree, and life in general she couldn't help but start to hum ever so softly. It was just a hummed lullaby but it still seemed to dance in the air.

Eztil stretched out from his recent nap, walking towards his new 'ward' slowly, and doing his best to keep an eye on her. Well, not that it was a problem. The blind leopardess was not exactly difficult to keep track of, but he didn't like the idea of getting out and about... and frankly, now that he had her in his grasp, he wasn't good at sharing. Unless perhaps Brisais was around, but he just loved watching the lioness squirm. That was usually far more fun than lying to the more easily fooled Kanya. Still, it made life relatively easy since he didn't have to think too much while he was around her.

"My dear, whatever are you doing? I'd hate for you to fall and hurt yourself." Or rather, it would hurt his plans if something happened to her, because then the followers who were still on his sides would think he was careless... and he couldn't allow for that. He had to be seen as loving and caring... and all those other fuzzy things that your average creature liked so much and he could care less about.

"Your song though, my darling is as lovely as ever." He told her, not exactly lying. She was pretty enough, and her voice rather soothing... his pretty little captive princess who didn't realize she was in a cage.

As Kanya relaxed underneath the tree, humming to herself, she heard the rustle of grass as someone came towards her. The slow and deliberate steps gave Kanya a very good idea who it was that was coming to see her, Eztil. He had been the perfect gentlemen, giving her space when she wanted it but also being close enough that she didn't feel completely alone in this new place. She did not regret coming with him, she wanted to see the world figuratively speaking of course but she did miss her family and she still felt unsure about her surroundings. Kanya has not had the chance to explore like she would have wished but she was sure that would soon be fixed.

She looked in the direction of Eztil's voice, "I was just testing the branches. They are too young yet to support my weight, maybe a cubs but not an adult." She smiled at the male. The male who brought her to this new place and seemed to care for her, the poor leopardess had no clue that the large lion didn't see her for anything more then a pawn.

"More like humming then singing," She lightly corrected him meaning no disrespect. "There are words to go with it but they are kind of," she paused trying to think of the best word to use, "well it's a lullaby. I like the tune more then the words." She started to hum the same tune again, this time though she added the first few lines before stopping.

"Roses whisper goodnight
Neath silvery light

Asleep in the dew
they hide from our view

When the dawn peepeth through
God will wake them and you"

She finished the song by humming before saying, "See. Its more of a lullaby for young cubs then adults." She blushed slightly, her fur hiding it, and looked down shyly. The song was more for a mother to sing to their cub as night fell, or for someone to croon to their lover deep in the night.

Eztil smiled a little, though she did not see. He didn't need to hide his facial expressions around her, but knew it was best to do so. If he forgot to hide what was on his face, one could easily let an emotion slip, a falsehood slide away, anything that could clue in a clever creature to your true intentions. And Eztil never slipped. Never. You couldn't be caught in a lie, or you would die. You couldn't trust anyone, or you would die.

To give into such sympathies was to invite death onto yourself. He had gotten too comfortable in his position as leader once, and he had lost his sister because of his foolishness. He would not let it happen again.

"No, it is fine." Eztil told her, "Your humming... yes, better that you corrected me. But I like the lullabies... I had no mother or father when I was young, no one to sing to me, and so it's nice to hear such peaceful tones. I wish my own children could be brought up in such a way, where they could be sung lullabies and not have to fear for their lives. That would be a real life, for them." No, it wouldn't. It bred weakness. Created creatures who would be able to die more easily than they killed.

Even his sister had known that. Even his nieces and nephews... they had tried their best. Fought to the last. Died as child soldiers.

Kanya's heart practicably bled when Eztil said that he didn't have any parents when he was young. Kanya might be blind but she at least had parents who loved her in spite of her lack of sight. "Oh Eztil," she said softly as she made her way carefully over to him. Once she felt the heat coming off of him she slowed down even more until her paw bumped into his. She now knew where he was and nuzzled him lightly, humming the lullaby for the cub he once was and the lion he became.

With the song done and the wish to change the topic from these hurtful feelings Kanya took a few steps back and sat down. "Eztil, I know your busy and that's why you asked me to stay around here, also for safety, but could you walk with me around the pride lands?"

Pity. Even fake pity for something that no longer mattered irritated him. Parents who had abandoned him, whose opinions didn't matter... who didn't deserve to be missed. Only he and his sister had mattered... she had been all that had ever mattered. Still, he supressed those feeling down as far as they would go so that he wouldn't blow his cover or reveal anything about himself. It all had to be lies.

No one could ever be close to him again. He couldn't ever lose something that mattered again, and so nothing should matter. Nothing could matter.

He was glad when she changed the subject. Back to the lies and the deciet... that was all that he needed. "Oh my dear Kanya... how could I ever refuse such a lovely offer? I would love to guide you around these lands. Anything to be sure you are safe." She was, after all, all his now. All his. His possession. They all belonged to him.

For a moment Kanya could have sworn that their was a current of anger in the air. She couldn't figure out where or why it was there and almost before she could identify it as anger it was gone, in its place was the normal controlled, calm presence of Eztil. She didn't say anything about it, she only shrugged it off as a figment of her very fertile imagination.

Kanya smiled at him before looking away in shyness at his words. She stood and began walking until she reached the edge of her normal space. Facing out into the unknown area she said, "From here its nearly all blank to me." Without looking at him she asked softly, "What do you see Eztil?" Her nose picked up scents from other members of the pride, grass, dirt, a few trees, and the clean scent of light breeze that lightly played with her fur.

((i guess i should pester death about the surroundings, i tryed to make it generic as possible so theirs no issues. i'll toss this to death so she can go thru it and say if anything needs changing when it comes to the land))
