Name: Jaytren Age: 20 Gender: Male Sexual Orientation: Bisexual Craft: Rank: Candidate
History: Technically, Jaytren is a weyrbrat, but it's probably better to say that he's a brat who happened to grow up in the Weyr. Instead of the typical fosterling lifestyle, he was raised by his parents, both holdborn crafters who didn't mind the Weyr as a workplace but weren't exactly enamored with the culture it created. As such, they kept Jaytren, their precious, brilliant boy as sheltered as is possible in a large, active Weyr.
It's worth noting that, in his way, Jaytren is quite intelligent, if perhaps not as intelligent as his parents liked to imagine. Learning came easy to him, something his mother, a harper, encouraged. She allowed him to see himself as an intellectual, found excuses for him to study instead of work, knowing that her little boy was destined for, well, something important anyway.
Unfortunately, as Jaytren grew it became apparent that lots of knowledge and little practical application didn't destine you for much of anything but grunt work, and his parents certainly weren't going to send him off to a crafthall! He became a bit of a drifter, working, as many weyrbrats do, here or there. His particular focus was watching the little ones, and teaching them when a true harper wasn't present for the job.
Appearance: Jaytren's looks don't deserve a lot of comment. They certainly don't get a lot of it. It's not that he's ugly, more that he's just not the sort of man that shows up and sweeps people off their feet. He's short, for one, with fairly average brown hair and eyes to match. Nothing about him flashes, nothing shines. He's broad, with large hands and a surprising amount of natural strength for someone who doesn't exercise more than work demands of him. Not quite heavy set, it's none the less clear that he could run in that direction if it weren't for his unfortunate habit of forgetting to eat.
Personality: Jaytren's intelligence is, any ways, his most defining and most unfortunate trait. He really is very bright, capable of picking up tasks quickly, turning directions into action without struggle and remembering them well for the next time around. Being a quick learner means that Jaytren has never had to really struggle with ideas, never had to study. So, he hasn't. And he doesn't, in fact, really know how. When he's presented with something that doesn't come naturally to him, it's like walking into a wall. He has no idea what to do, no idea how to best it, no concept of 'if at first you don't succeed, try try again'. Jaytren doesn't try things twice. Either he gets it or he doesn't. Period.
Unsurprisingly, Jaytren hates to work. This isn't to say he doesn't. He's big on following rules and when he's given a task he's a perfectionist who will complete it to the exact specifications given. But he doesn't enjoy it. Indeed, he dreads it. Never one to whistle a happy tune while getting the job done, he's much more likely to mutter under his breath and allow his whole day to be ruined if he has to complete a particularly unpleasant task. Lazy, but not allowed to indulge in the relaxed intellectualism of his childhood, Jaytren tends to neglect himself if it means a few precious moments of daydreaming and thinking. He'll skip meals, refuse to go get that drink, even if he is really thirsty, because the walk seems SO long. This extends into his social life, where, despite the enjoyment he gets from his friendships, he often finds himself making excuses so that he can just have some time to himself.
Jaytren is a bit of a solitary person. An only child who had difficulty relating to his peers while young, he find his own company quite enjoyable as it allows him time for thinking and daydreaming, two of his favorite hobbies. This isn't to say he doesn't like people, he's alright with them for the most part. What he hates is noise, and conflict. Loud, vulgar sorts are the ones he particularly tries to avoid but anyone with an opinion they feel like shouting to the world is likely to see very little of Jaytren. He has opinions of his own, but he'd rather swallow them and duck out of the room instead of going to all the exhausting effort of fighting.
Jaytren has yet to have any really successful relationships. Men, he often finds annoying. Oh sure, he's attracted to them, until they open their mouths. Women, meanwhile, he tends to over-romanticize. They're out of his league as far as he's concerned, and, of course, there's no use trying when he knows he'll just fail. Still, he really wants someone to be in love with. He's built love up into quite the fantasy and is convinced his life won't be complete until he finds 'the one'.

BLUE KORIANTHLove looks not with the eyes, but with the mind; And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.
If ever there was a dragon who saw the world through rose-tinted glasses it would be Korianth. And what a beautiful world it is. The blue rarely focuses on the dim and the dreary, eager to see everything the world has to offer for him. He's the type of dragon who, when faced with a grounding snow storm, will comment on how pretty the snow looks when it falls to the ground. Though excitable, Korianth doesn't like to rush through things, preferring to take his time and see things from every angle. He's a good dragon to mediate an argument, often able to see things from more than one point of view.
Work and Korianth are two things that just happen to co-exist in the same sentence. Unlike many of his clutchmates, he's not a definite hard worker, never going out of his way to go above and beyond expectation. He has the energy and the stamina to do the work, but not the drive, and thus his energy will be spent doing whatever activity he wishes to do. Should he rider wish to rush through a job so they can have free time, then Korianth is quite happy to mimic that behaviour so that he can spend time with His. Spending time together is one of the most important things to this blue. He wants to feel like he's part of his rider's life, even in the smallest of ways, and will be one of the dragons who suffers from separation anxiety until he's old enough to fly.
Decidedly chivalrous, he frequently falls head over heels for a female dragon and wants to do everything in his power to woo her. Though he may fall for the occasional green, there is one dragon who's managed to capture his heart so completely that he has a hard time letting go of her. Much like the beautiful Juliet to the lonesome Romeo, Kanaleth represents everything Korianth wants in one neat gold package. The unfortunate part of it is the gold bit. Korianth knows he'll never be able to catch her, but that might not be enough to stop him, at least in the beginning. An injury from pushing himself too hard may be what's needed to ground him for good, but he'll always pine for his golden princess. WHY ME? Though he's got the brainpower, Jaytren is a bit of a romantic at heart, which is something that Korianth latched on to. Girls, boys, it doesn't matter to this blue. So long as they have a dragon he can chase, he'll help his rider woo anyone of his choosing. He also displays a balance to Jaytren's work ethic, and will never ask His for more than he's willing to give on his own. There may be some motivation to do things for the ladies, but Korianth certainly isn’t going to nag about it.
As a rather optimistic blue, he can help bring some light into Jaytren's life, as well as provide some quiet company. He's not the intelligent type, but he makes up by being wise, more knowledgeable in the ways of people than his with book smarts. Jaytren can also understand Korianth's love of Kanaleth, being a lover himself, and the two can be lovers-not-fighters together until the end of time.

Black Labrador
The Labrador Retriever (also Labrador, or Lab for short) is one of several kinds of retriever, a type of gun dog. They have webbed paws for swimming, useful when they retrieve their prey, hence the name retriever. The Labrador, once known as the Lesser Newfoundland, is the most popular breed of dog (by registered ownership) in the world, and is, by a large margin, the most popular breed by registration in Canada, the United States (since 1991) ,and the United Kingdom. It is also the most popular breed of assistance dog in Canada, the United States, Australia, United Kingdom and many other countries, as well as being widely used by police and other official bodies for their detection and working abilities. Typically, Labradors are athletic, and love to swim, play catch and retrieve games, and are good with young children.
Labradors have a reputation as a very mellow breed and an excellent family dog (including a good reputation with children of all ages and other animals), but some lines (particularly those that have continued to be bred specifically for their skills at working in the field rather than for their appearance) are particularly fast and athletic. Their fun-loving boisterousness and lack of fear may require training and firm handling at times to ensure it does not get out of hand—an uncontrolled adult can be quite problematic. Females may be slightly more independent than males. Labradors mature at around three years of age; before this time they can have a significant degree of puppy-like energy, often mislabelled as being hyperactive. Because of their enthusiasm, leash-training early on is suggested to prevent pulling when full-grown. Labs often enjoy retrieving a ball endlessly and other forms of activity (such as agility, frisbee, or flyball).
