Dimitri closed his eyes and tilted his face up, enjoying the torrent of water pouring over his head. He was taking a break from his incessant traveling to have a much-desired bath. His clothing was neatly piled on the side of the stream, topped by his golden sun-mask. It was not often that Dimi could feel the air on his face, and he enjoyed what time he had in this lonesome part of the forest, standing under this often deserted waterfall. It was a time to contemplate, and time to relax, and time where he never had to answer questions about himself or be bothered about taking off his mask. What did he have to hide? No one ever knew, and as far as Dimitri was concerned, no one ever would....

A very wide tree trunk was always nice for concealing an equine, especially one of proportions on the larger scale. Inquisitive green eyes peeked around said trunk, following perked ebony ears, two hoops shimmering in the right ear, reflecting the sun. Mistake. Charlotte slipped her entirety back behind the trunk, shaking her head at her own foolishness. Curse these sunny days; The black mare could barely sneak about... Yet the challenge of it was what had sent her down the slope of the hill that bore the waterfall. The waterfall which emptied into a stream below. In which a stallion was bathing, seemingly oblivious to her presence.
What interested Charlie most was the shimmers of a golden object -a mask- placed oh-so-conveniently beside the stream, atop a pile of clothing. What a silly thing it was, clothing, to a horse! But this was irrelevant. She wanted that bright, glittering star of gold. And so she trekked down the slope and into the forest, behind this very wide tree, some lengths off from the stream itself. It was the most adequate hiding spot in the vicinity, albeit inconvenient. From here it was a dash for the mask and back, a risky thing, that.
This would require observation. Charlotte could do that. 'Vasn't being so observant vhen I met him... vasn't being smart at all...' Her inside-voice got her eyes lowered to her hooves, mischief flickering out for a second. Remembrance. What an awful feeling.. But the surroundings beckoned her back to reality. The rush of water over rocks and body matter tensed her muscles once more and she peeked about again, right ear tucking down into her mane to hide her piercings with care this time.
And that left her standing there, contemplating. There had to be one perfect moment. The stallion had to have something distract him sooner or later, his attention needed to avert for but several seconds and she'd have it.

Dimitri arched his head and let his eyes droop shut; the water was so calming and wonderful, it relaxed his muscles completely. He found himself nodding off right where he was standing, slowly dropping off into dreamland. His legs locked into place, and he fell asleep. Completely oblivious was he to the surmounting danger that could shatter his entire existence. Dimi never thought his mask would be in danger here, since never had he seen a living soul in this area. The thought to guard it never crossed his mind, and today was very likely the day he would regret that...

How wonderful a thing it was, absent-mindedness. If one really cared about something they shouldn't leave it lying about on a riverbank on a sunny day with it shimmering and tempting thieves. Charlie shrugged it off, if it wasn't her it'd be a raven or someone else. Like she needed an excuse to steal. Snorting, she began to maneuver over to the riverbank. She had few precious moments now, and her feet didn't betray her, gliding across the grass and rocks soundlessly with practice.
And she was upon it. The mask was far more dazzling up close. It was embedded with precious stones and a golden chain was strung along the top. Charlotte was stunned for a second. Mistake. She snatched it up gently, holding it in her teeth by the nose-bridge part so as not to fracture the chain and stones, and ran. She ran without looking at the stallion, as she didn't care at this moment. If he noticed and were to chase her, seeing such wouldn't do her any good. If he hadn't noticed and wasn't chasing her, she'd find out soon enough. But she was overthinking it, and was strangely emotional over the beauty of the mask. 'My children must be beautiful as well...' Mistake. Her back hooves bashed in a young spruce, making a most dissatisfying 'CRACK!' and freezing Charlie in her place, ears perked, listening for the sounds of pursuit. Which was a very stupid and unacceptable 'mistake..'

Dimitri just began to dream about running through clouds when a crack came from the woods. His started awake and looked around wildly, noticing immediately that something was wrong. Blinking, Dimi stared at the empty place on top of his clothing, where his mask had been sitting only moments prior. His heart began to pound, his ears ringing, "No... no no no..." Tears rushed to his eyes and he looked around wildly, "NOOOOOOOooooo!"
Dimi sprung out of the stream and in the direction he had heard the crack, noticing on the way the fresh hoof prints in the mud by the stream. So it was a Soq that stole it! Nothing was going through his mind but panic and fury. He glimpsed a flash in the woods and sprinted forward, his eyes narrowed in hatred.

Charlotte had near to no time to start running after that stupid pause. Her hooves moved quicker than any average horse's should, though her speed was just level with an average horse, seeing as the forest ground was wet with a rain that she didn't remember. Her hooves didn't move soundlessly as she'd have liked, every step 'squilch'-ing into the muck, making a sound like running water at the pace she was going. Everything about this situation was wrong! What was she thinking, forgetting the weather of a few days passed, letting her mind wander... Wander to... 'Those three baskets... Three... A blessing to any mother...'
So deep in thought was she that only the 'squilch'-ing of the stallion, who was surely following her, snapped her back to attention. She realized she'd let the mask drop, her jaw slightly ajar, and she snorted. 'Vhat's vrong vith you lately, Bandit?' She snatched it up and her hooves began pounding the ground once more, but it seemed as if the male covered enough ground to possibly catch up now. Well, she couldn't think of that! All she could do was run. Run and pray to the gods he was slow.

Without his clothes and mask on, Dimitri, who was not a very slow Soquili in general, found that he had a much easier time running. Following the sound of the thief, the waving of the plants they had passed, and the scent of them in the air, Dimitri continued, hot on their trail. He couldn't let them get away, he just couldn't! The adrenaline pumped through his body, was it from anger? Or from fear...?
Dimi had a lot to fear from loosing his mask... They would be able to see his face again... He couldn't let that happen... He didn't want to end up like last time...
