"You can't come." Damon said pointedly to the puppy yapping away at his feet, wagging her tail as she blinked up at him expectantly. A hand was tossing his keys up into the air and catching it as he furrowed his brow lightly, watching Belle make her little protest of her owner not letting her accompany him out. "I've already taken you out for a walk; just stay at home with Dusty."

Dusty was the unofficial name Damon had given their old house cat ages ago when he was younger and it stuck ever since. He didn't care what the others would call the grumpy lazy thing; he called it Dusty and that was that. The cat didn't even bother to glare in his direction at that name anymore, although Belle did look around, as if hoping to see the cat somewhere so she could play with it. '"Yeah." He said, as if hoping to encourage the puppy. "Go find Dusty and bother the mangy thing." He didn't know if Belle understood, even as she ran off, the bell on her collar jangling merrily as she did so. Maybe she was bored, or going to beg his mom for snacks, or maybe she was really going to attempt to chase Dusty around the house.

Though it would be quite amusing if she did that.

At least she wasn't tugging at his pants with her teeth, anymore and he was free to leave the house. With this, he turned and headed towards the door, calling out so that anyone at home, specifically his parents, would know his whereabouts. "Going out for a bit, Dad."

A hand reached out from behind Damon, deftly snatching the keys that were making their fourth trip into the air. Delphine hummed with pleasure at her accomplishment, and quickly made to pocket the keys before Damon could grab for them. "Oh, are we going out?" Damon should have known that if his sister was home, he wouldn't be able to leave without being bothered by his younger sibling. Delphine seemed to delight in tormenting Damon from time to time, if only because he was annoyingly overprotective.

She had tried to block his number from her cell phone, but her mom had found out and had thrown one hell of a b***h fit over the importance of family. Delphine had lost shopping privileges for the week, and so was not eager to repeat the venture.

The girl cast her gaze downwards to the puppy that was suddenly very happy to see her. Delphine and dogs did not mesh well. Delphine and fluffy dogs meshed even worse together. "Dad's honestly letting you keep her?" she complained. Delphine, like her father, actually favored the cat. The cat that did nothing. The Cat Who Would Not Be Named.

It was the perfect pet - didn't demand attention, and just sat around for show. Delphine could ignore it, and it could ignore her. The puppy, however, demanded attention. It swam in a pool of people's collected attention. There had been many 'aawww's and 'how cute!'s when it came to the puppy, and Delphine found it annoying.

Like, really. If Damon had to get a dog, why did it have to be in its baby stage?

And if Damon could get a dog, why couldn't she get a cat? Or a new cell phone. Hell, what about a car? Double-standards is what she chalked it up to.

"Goddammit." Damon burst out as his sister stole his keys away and leaped forward to snatch them back, closing them into a tight fist so she wouldn't get to them again. "If you wanted a ride, all you had to do was ask." He groused, rolling his grey eyes in her direction. Being overprotective was because he cared, but he was also trying to let her have some alone time and the texts to her were dwindling, although there were still at least a few each day.

He couldn't help it.

"Dad's going the 'It's your responsibility, Damon boy' route and focusing on watching his sports channels instead." He explained even as Belle stared up at Delphine, tongue out and tail wagging. "She's not that bad. It isn't as if you're the one taking care of her."

She pouted, outright pouted, when Damon snatched the keys back as quickly as she had claimed them. Sometimes things just didn't go her way - she really needed to get a license to drive a motorcycle (it was a sure fire way to get Damon to have a panic attack when his motorcycle AND sister were missing). "I thought that doing it this way would be more obvious," she replied sweetly, eyes twinkling with mock-innocence.

"It is your responsibility, but I still think you should tie it to Mr. Hanson's door down the street and let him have it." The puppy took a few steps forward to try and properly greet Delphine, but was immediately impeded by her foot pressing against the creature's head. She didn't do it hard, just enough to make a barrier between herself and the excitable puppy. "Yeah, but she still wants to plague me even more than you do.

Why not a cat? The cat would have been happier."

Damon would indeed freak out if he found out his sister had taken his motorbike for a spin, mostly because he was afraid she would get into an accident or that she would get caught because she didn't have a license. Partly because he was a bit scared that she might scratch his bike.

Partly. That was just a tiny little bit of him.

"Mom would kill me." He said with a frown, even as Belle yapped a protest of not being allowed near Delphine. "Besides, you've got school and all; so just shut the door to your room when you get home." At the mention of the cat, Damon glanced briefly over to where it was laying, giving him it's usual bored look and frowned. "It wasn't my call, okay? Mom went on all about 'blahblahblah teach you responsibility blahblah', and I guess she's figured out from years with Dusty that you don't have to do much with cats."

"I think she would kill you for far less things, too. We need to make her visit a psychiatrist." Delphine was of the firm opinion that her mother was a bit of a pscyho. She was just so a**l that Delphine was certain that every little thing that didn't go her way drove her insane. Some would say that Delphine was a bit like her mother - Delphine would glare them down if she ever heard someone say that.

Delphine remained balanced on one leg, pressing the flat bottom of her foot against the puppy's forehead, keeping it at a sufficient distance away from her. The poor puppy would never be able to break through Delphine's defense. She was determined not to like it - it had s**t on the floor once and her mom had asked her to clean it (guess who hadn't?). "It's the principle, Damon, the principle," she insisted with a little smile.

"I can't believe this. She gets you an animal, MAKES you keep it, and she won't let me get anything. I knew she always liked you more." Delphine mock-frowned.

"She needs to take a breather from work, I guess." Damon said with a shrug. There was having to deal with stress pertaining to work related matters all day, and then coming home to try to organize the family... Mrs Amary tried to juggle a lot of responsibilities, and she was actually pretty good at it too. Still, he thought that his mother really needed to take a vacation sometime.

Belle whined once again and then decided that trying to lick Delphine was a lost cause and retreated, leaving the room, and Damon thought it was presumably to bother the cat. "If you want a pet, ask her for one then." It was probably why Delphine seemed to be rather grumpy about him getting a puppy right? Girls liked having pets to fuss over... but Delphine wasn't exactly a fusser.

"If she takes a breather from work, I won't be able to get that new cell phone I've been wanting." Delphine could sacrifice some things to get a 'happier' mother, but there wasn't a lot. She would rather deal with her mother's moods than give up the cash flow her mother earned from working so much. Delphine was never made to wait for most things she wanted - it was probably why she didn't have a job. Why would she get one when she had all the cash that she needed? All she had to do was bat her eyelashes at her father and she could secure his credit card for the day.

"What would I do with a pet?" Delphine grumbled, watching the puppy disappear into the next room. "If I got anything, it'd be something to scare the s**t out of that monster you brought home. I don't have time for a new pet. Maybe a lizard, or a really big boa constrictor..." She was eying the spot the puppy had just disappeared from with a devilish little smile. She really wouldn't wish for anything too nasty to happen to the puppy, though she certainly could pretend to.

Damon sighed, wondering how Delphine thought a vacation from work for their mother was going to keep her for getting her new want. Admittedly, it would be quite hard to convince their mother to do so; she would probably think that they wanted a vacation themselves and tell them to focus on their own schoolwork instead. Instead of berating his sister, he quirked an eyebrow in interest. "Got your eye on a new phone model?" Damon really didn't care much about getting a new cellphone as long as his own was still functional. (There was a time when he had gotten into a fight and his phone smashed in the process. Mrs Amary's face was quite a sight when he had shown her what had happened to it.)

"Or you could bring home one of those monsters attacking the city." He deadpanned, going along with the joke. Damon didn't believe his sister had it in her to cause harm to the puppy, as annoying as Delphine saw Belle to be at times.

"Oh, yeah, our cell phone plan is going to let me switch to a newer model." Her cell phone looked just fine - the screen wasn't even scratched, and the buttons only a little worn. It was a few months old, but apparently that was long enough for Delphine to want a newer, shinier model. It was her father that was supposed to be getting the new cell phone, but his was still working fine. That simply meant that since no one really needed a new cell phone, Delphine would get it for the sheer fact that she wanted it. "This one I have is starting to look crummy, anyways." Now that the puppy was out of the way, Delphine looked a little more agreeable.

She was just about as lovable as Damon could ever expect her to be.

Her eyes flickered up to her brother's face, and she arched a dark brow at the comment. Really, it made the corner of her lip turn up in a small smirk. "Do you think it would make a good pet?" she joked, Delphine definitely knew well enough that the monster would probably want to eat her before eating Damon's mutt. "I could name it Deathbringer," she continued, her smile growing just a little bit more.

Damon had always cared for his sister, from when she was a kid, or perhaps he had cared a bit too much. As kids, having a protective brother was a nice thing to have, but as Delphine grew older and teenage hormones began kicking in, Damon started to get pretty annoying sometimes. 'Lovable' was a bit of a stretch for Damon to describe his younger sister though, although it was evident to everyone that knew him that he cared very deeply for her.

"It'll probably eat the roof and the front door." He frowned at her, shaking his head. "Those monsters have strange eating habits though. Not as if you could go to the pet store and order a pack of monster feed." If that really happened, it would probably stop the monsters from destroying their city then. Too bad it wouldn't.
