The stallion's frame was rigid, the only movement coming from the feline ears atop his head rotating and listening for sounds. White puffs issued from his nostrils from the chill morning air, spring was just beginning to arrive but he knew as the day wore on, the air would warm up. From the sunrise he stood watching now, he could already tell it would be a rather warm day.
Finally, movement. Ryuichi stretched his neck out to drink out of the cool river that lay at his feet. It had thawed for the most part, with the occasional bit of ice floating down it. His companion, the small black and red hummingbird that traveled with him, should be making his return soon. Ryuichi looked forward to this, and had missed the small bird deeply while he was away.
Slowly the stallion started to amble down in the opposite direction of the river flow, a pair of brown clawed boots cushioning his front hooves from the rocks. The stallion walked with an obvious sense of pride, head held high and neck straight. Each step slow but without hesitation and a look of no to little emotion on his face.

It was early morning when Gale found herself walking along the riverbank of the water that ran through the plains nearby to where she resided. The basket which carried her newborn foal was tied to her back, courtesy of the little mouse companion known as Berimbau that was always with her. She dared not leave it to itself, for fear that something might happen to it.
Walking in the direction of which the water flowed, Gale's feathers fluttered in the light breeze. There were a few other stallions and mares scattered throughout the widespread plains, but they were far and wide, none close enough to speak to. Except, however, for a rather impressive looking stallion traipsing along the river's edge towards her. Slow, carefully calculated steps and a head held high drew the impression of self-confidence and pride, and Gale ruffled her wings, slightly nervous. He seemed...different. A strange sense of familiarity crossed over Gale, though she was not quite sure why. She stopped a few steps away from him, snorting anxiously.

The stallion wasn't surprised when he saw the mare walking toward him. It was a beautiful morning, dispite the light cold, and the river water was cool and refreshing. The feline ears moved forward, the long tail swaying out from behind him every few steps.
When the mare stopped a few paces from him, he did the same and bowed politely to the mare. He noted on her back was a tightly secured basket, a new mother. He wondered where the father was and knew that more mares gave birth to two foals at minimum, but thought that perhaps he was off caring for the second basket if there was one.
"Greetings m'lady. Fine morning for a stroll." Ryuichi's deep voice greeted politely. The mare looked shockingly familar. He knew that he had met her once before. The black markings set over her eyes and the pink-red mane. His mind set into motion as to who this was and where he'd met her.

One of Gale's ears twitched slightly at the stallion's greeting. There was something strange about that voice, something...comforting. Like she'd heard it before.
But where? Gale thought, as Berimbau climbed up her mane and perched atop her head, eyeing the other stallion with a look of suspicion; her companion was always wary of strangers. She snorted lightly; a warning note to stay calm to the mouse. He flattened against her head, his tiny nose twitching.
"Good...day." Gale said, one hoof pawing at the ground anxiously. She was not sure why this stallion seemed familiar to her, why that voice brought back vague memories; defragments that she could not piece together to form a complete picture.
"How...how are you this morning?" she asked, feeling awkward and unsure.
