Takhi was silent as she walked through the forest, her body weaving around branches and twigs. She was stealthy, her presence was practically unknown to the world around her. Her mind wandered with her steps, thinking back to her siblings, her father, her mother...
Avant and Keshani. They were upfront, bold, bloodthirsty...
The filly snorting and shook her head. They would get themselves killed before they could breath any air of adulthood. They spoke much, and knew little.
A smile grew on her face at the thought. She had seen mother stalking about. She was sure that her siblings knew not of the conditions of their mother. For all she knew they assumed she was dead. She knew, though. The pelted mare that stalked through the shadows, waiting for a chance to attack.
Oh how fun it would be. Children killed by their mother.
Still. She couldn't help but wonder.
She had seen mother. Kanti. And she spent much time with Aveshar...
And there was something about her siblings. Something about her, that didn't fit. Avant's crown marking. Keshani's wings...
Tahki looked upwards as she entered a clearing, light from the midday sun shining onto her face.
No. Something was missing.

Stormwild landed on the forest floor, shaking some leaves out of her hair as she looked around. Her daughter, Cataclysm, was at her heels, blowing the mane out of her face with a huff. Storm was on a mission for some fruit, and she wasn't going back to the mountain until she had some. The old mare had been stuck up on the mountain for far too long - and only if Cataclym accompanied her did Balrog hesitantly allow Storm to leave. Though Storm was fully healed by now, her ego was still recovering from its beating. Here she was - an Elder mare of her herd and she had to have an escort.

The pair began their walk through the forest, eyes on the trees as they looked for something tasty. Cataclysm's ear twitched as she through she heard a twig snap in the distance.

As she accidentally stepped on a stray branch, Tahki winced and turned her head, hoping no one was nearby. As her eyes fell on the two mares, however, her lip curled. Her eyes traced their wings, their figures. Something about the larger one felt... familiar. But she dismissed it. Her ears flicked and she made her way further into the clearing.
"I would turn back, if I were you."
Her voice was low. Calm. More tempered than that of her siblings could ever be.
"You near the lands my father resides in. I hardly think he would appreciate your company." During the time she spoke, her eyes rested on the larger mare with the snowy-white locks. With the slightly purple wings and markings that looked so familiar...

Both the mares snapped their heads around at the voice. Stormwild opened her mouth to apologize - but her voice caught in her throat as she found the little filly that was speaking.

Cataclysm on the other hand couldn't help herself. She gave a chuckle, endlessly amused that a foal dare to speak to her. She looked over at her mother and saw her expression, making her pause.

Stormwild tilted her head and walked towards the filly. "Waykina...?" she ventured, wondering if the name range any bells.

Tahki eyed the peculiar mare as she neared and spoke. Her tail flicked behind her, annoyed.
"I know not who you speak of."
Her head craned to one side, then turned to the other, her eyes falling on the chuckling mare, then to the other. What was it that was so familiar... She blinked again. Was it possible...?
"Who is this Wakinya of whom you speak?"

"Waykina is no one," the younger mare snapped, stopping one of her hooves on the ground. She snorted derisively, looking sharply at her mother as if begging her not to press. She had an inkling where this was heading and she did not like it... at all.

The older mare stepped closer still, putting herself between her daughter and the fierce little filly. "Waykina was my son," she said, "You smell of him."

Cataclysm rolled her eyes behind her mother.

There was a hesitant pause before the filly burst into laughter, throwing her head back. After a moment her pink eyes shot towards the elder mare. A grin was pressed to her face.
"I know not a Wakinya. I know only my father, Aveshar, a Kalona and my mother Kanti Nuttah, who was at one time a land Soq. And my two siblings." Her eyes wandered towards the other mare, then again to the one before her. "I always suspected there was something lingering in our blood that none of us knew of. You see, my eldest sister possess purple markings and snowy black and white wings, of which neither my father nor mother possess. And my brother has blood red markings, similar to that of my mother, but extensive." Her eyes then turned to Cataclysm whose markings, she realized, were similar. "He has a tribal marking on his forehead. Like a crown."

Stormwild's eyes lit up at the mention of Kanti, who she knew of. Though she had never formally met her, she was aware of her and had on more than one occasion looked after her. She looked over the filly in front of her and frowned. If Kanti was her mother, then her father, this... Aveshar she spoke of, must have been kalona.

She gave a heavy sigh... Kalona was even worse than a simple ground blood.

But something else wasn't right. "What do you mean... at one time was a land Soquili?"

"Kanti..."
The filly watched the mare for a long moment. Wakinya was her son. This same Wakinya must have been the father of Kanti. Which made this mare her own great-grandmother. And by the reaction, by her sigh, what had happened to her bloodline must have not been good news.
The smile on Tahki's face grew ever so slightly. She had to have had no idea that it was about to get so much worse...
"Kanti has been cursed. I assume it is after she gave birth to my siblings and I, the way my father takes it." She shrugged passively and looked the elder mare in the eye. "Kanti is a skinwalker."

The pinks in Stormwild's ears paled. "No... a skinwalker...." She shook her head. "Your mother is a skinwalker, you poor thing..."

"NO!" snapped Cataclysm, cutting her off. "I know that look, do not even think about it mother. This thing is not ours! This is the price Waykina has paid for diluting his bloodline! If Kanti had had wings she never would have succumbed to such a fate... " The younger mare looked to the filly and sneered.

Tahki ignored the sounds of pity in Stormwild's voice and turned her head to Cataclysm, curling her lip. "Diluting the bloodline? You all take blood so seriously. Almost as much as the Kalonas." There was a pause and she shrugged. "I've never met this Wakinya, but he probably didn't care too much about his bloodline. Kaelyn, Kanti's mother, is a ground. I've seen her once or twice. A ground albino. Nothing special at all. Perhaps Kanti was just trying to live a life less... boring." She laughed slightly. "And that is were I, we, came in. I don't need the pity." She looked to Stormwild. "I'm just glad I'm not in the same position as my dear mother" She shrugged.

The younger mare snorted again, flipping her braids. "You're too young or naive or stupid to understand," she sneered, "And no, Waykina didn't care, that's why he's no longer part of this family...and neither are you."

Stormwild frowned, conflicted. She certainly didn't want Cata and this little filly arguing...she was so young and it wasn't her fault what happened to her mother. Waykina had made his choices - including leaving his family -and Stormwild knew he bred with ground Soquili. But she never faced any of his progeny face to face like this. She gave a heavy sigh... if Kanti's mother was a ground Soquili as well, that meant that she was this filly's great great grandfoal...at best. Not only did this make her feel old, but it also meant that there were probably countless lost members of her family out there somewhere. Mingled with the likes of Kalona and skinwalkers.... the thought gave her a shudder.

"Cata," she said firmly, "Control yourself."
