Jilis was left in charge of the Hatchlings, and the Headwoman gently but firmly towards the Dining Hall. Inside, the kitchen staff and drudges had decked the place out in honour of the new members of the Weyr. It may have been a distraction from the plague – certainly one was well needed – and if it was it was doing its job. Judging by the decor, it was going to be quite the celebration.
Food was laid out for the new riders and the crowd alike, and the Weyrwoman was seated at her customary spot at the High Table. Once the hatchlings had assembled, Luci stood and said a few words, acknowledging the arrival of the newest gold. Then, she sat, and nodded to the kitchen workers.
Let the Hatching Feast begin!

It was about time! Though the Hatching had been remarkably without incident, and therefore seemed relatively short...it was about time! The feasts were, of course, always the best part about hatchings - well, maybe not always. Not this time, anyway, since this time had somehow gotten her Bayeth. That was the surprise of her life, for sure.
Not that Lilah was looking forward to everything that would follow, the changes, weyrlinghood...but at least she was semi-prepared. She had paid some attention in lessons, even if she wasn't any good at them.
For now, though, her thoughts were on food! If there was anything that honestly made her happy or got her excited, it was food - eating it, anyway. She'd never been interested in or good at the whole preparation process. So, her cut thumb in her mouth and Bayeth at her side, Lilah eagerly surveyed what there was to be had.

Thanks to Vogieth's pleadings, and urgings, A'jel had a mission for this feast. He had to find the one who had impressed to that first brown. Vogieth sure was excited to meet the little fellow, and it was up to A'jel to set up the... 'play date' for lack of a better term. A'jel was sure it was also a part of Vogieth's plot to get him to make friends. Well...if it worked it worked.
Oh, please find and talk to him, Mine!
Patience. A'jel replied, pushing pale hair out of his tan face, blue eyes scanning the crowd.

S'ril was thrilled to finally get to eat! The call for the Candidates had roused him, and he had gotten nothing to eat that morning - or drink, come to think of it, as he realized how dry his mouth was. This feast was more than welcome, and even though it wasn't his first, it was certainly the best. With Aceth by his side, it would be the best feast he ever attended.
Do I get to eat, too? I could eat more!
The other voice in his mind startled him, still not quite used to the ever-present bond he felt there, but it was a good feeling when it didn't surprise him. "You've already eaten," he replied good-naturedly as Aceth bumped the back of his calf gently with her head. "I haven't had anything yet."
Fine! she replied in a tone that would be defiant from any other dragon. Just hurry up so you can meet my siblings and their riders. You might be mine, but you must at least meet them! S'ril could already tell that his little dragonet would exhaust him, though it seemed that everywhere she wanted him to go, she wanted him to go with a purpose. And he certainly couldn't deny that he should meet the others who had Impressed along with him. He hadn't recognized a single one of them...

A Hatching certainly took a lot out of a girl, and Andere hadn't even been the one doing the work! Kanaleth seemed no worse for the wear, however, keeping up with her newly-made rider easily as the pair entered the feast. The redhead kept a careful hand on the gold, as though she was afraid the dragon may just wander off in the growing crowd. The Queen crooned, nuzzling Andere's leg as the young woman paused, glancing around the hall.
Do not fret, Anderemine, she assured her rider, blue eyes whirling as she gaze upwards. I think we should greet all my clutchmates. We should also find Korianth. I would like to see him, Kanaleth continued. If dragons could smile, she might have, nudging Andere one more time before heading out towards the group.
"Oh! Kanaleth, hold on there, you!" Andere sprung after her dragon, dodging a few people as the gold merrily made her way through the crowd. "I've just moved here, I don't know anyone here. Kanaleth!" She frowned. "We-"
We need to make sure everyone is acquainted. Come on, then, you will never get anything done! A twinkle in her eye, the gold pushed further into the crowd, accidentally bumping into A'jel on her way through.
Andere's eyebrows climbing into her hairline (did her dragon really just accuse her of being lazy?), she attempted to keep up with the young gold, biting her lip as she knocked into an older rider. "You'll have to excuse her," Andere said, Kanaleth pausing long enough to make sure she hadn't harmed the man before continuing towards the first green she spotted. "I'm not sure she's quite aware of her size."

A'jel had been to buisy with scanning faces that the bump from down below made him jump. Well now, that certainly looked like a gold on a mission... Thankfully no harm was done and no scene - his greatest fear - was caused.
It was then Andere spoke to him, and A'jel did his best to give her a smile, "No harm done, m'ladies," he said addressing them both. A'jel hoped that would be a proper enough response, though it didn't seem he'd have to worry about it too much, as the gold seemed content to continue. Hers would have a time and a half keeping up with her it seemed. However A'jel had no reason not to have confidence in the both of them. They were the future of High Reaches, after all.

Julian slowly trudged off the empty sands. Now what is he suppose to do? He changes back into his familiar cloths. A hand runs down the front smoothing the soft leather as he sighs. What were his options? And what did he know or could do? Well the first answer was simple; either stay here at the weyr or return to the tanner's hall to become a journeyman. He'd talked to Soril about this very thing not long ago. Now he wasn't so sure. One thing he had to do was congratulate the young man.
Upon consideration the answer to the second question was even easier to answer. He was an apprentice tanner pure and simple. That's what he did and did fairly well. I don't think a Weyr would need an apprentice. I'm sure they have tanners all they need. Would I really be useful here or a nuisance? So if they didn't need an apprentice tanner, then what would Julian do?
Following the crowd with scuffing steps, Julian finds himself at the hatching feast. He blinks at the noise and crowd that washes over him. Impatient guests behind him joshel him and he moves to the side out of the way. Listening to the Weyrwoman he slowly takes it in. Oh, what am I doing here? I don't belong here. Nervousness races through him, not even a table full of sweets could catch his attention for long.

Oh, oh! Kanaleth is here! She is very nice. You must meet her!
S'ril took a bite of roast wherry and looked down at Aceth, who was beginning to dance at her rider's side, looking up hopefully that he had finished his meal so they could begin wandering around. Her eyes whirled with excitement, and she gently nudged at his elbow with her nose. "Relax," he said with a grin and chuckle, though it seemed to only make her prance more. "You're going to upset your stomach if you don't give yourself time to digest. Lie down a moment - I'll be done soon."
My stomach does not hurt at all. Despite her sullen argument, she laid down, her head resting on the bench next to him - it seemed to be at the perfect height for her to do so comfortably. I will wait until you're finished. I don't want you to be hungry. We have too much to do!

Andere breathed a sigh of relief as the rider smiled (or attempted, rather). It would be a terrible first impression to make, first day with Kanaleth and they were already knocking grown men down. Ahh. (But wouldn't her brother be proud?) "If you're sure," Andere replied, a hand resting on her hip as she craned her neck, trying to keep an eye on her gold as she trundled off, tail wagging side to side.
Aceth, the Queen started softly, lifting her head a little higher to watch the eager green and her rider. Have you met any of our other clutchmates. Mine says she does not know anyone and- The gold cut off suddenly, head swiveling as her rider beckoned her back towards the scene of the crime. Kanaleth sighed and adjusted her wings, glancing back towards her sister. Mine requires me, for a moment. But you may come, if you like.
Kanaleth whirled around and strode back to her rider, eyes still a pleasant blue as she sat by Andere's feet. Yes? she inquired, tipping her head to the side.
"I think you should apologize to...uh..." Andere's brows knitted and she glanced at the rider. "Oh, I don't believe I caught your name...? I am Andere, by the way. She is Kanaleth." The young woman extended her hand for a friendly shake.

Aceth's head popped up as Kanaleth spoke to her, and she turned and looked at her. Mine is nearly done eating. I will make him go faster - he needs to meet everyone as well! She was standing now, and nudging S'ril in the back with her nose.
"Hey!" he complained, wrapping his arm affectionately around her neck, hoping to still her a moment. He had hoped he had gotten her to calm down just for a bit!
Kanaleth wants us to meet hers. Please finish eating faster!
It seemed like S'ril wasn't going to get much peace if he continued, but he had been nearly done anyway. While he enjoyed roast wherry, he tended to prefer it in the evening for dinner, because it was so heavy. However, that seemed to work out for him this time. "All right, I'm finished then. Let's go." He stood, and Aceth led them directly through the bustling crowd to the gold - who he easily assumed was Kanaleth - and a young girl and a man, both of whom he didn't recognize.
I am here, and I have brought mine.

"Pleased to meet both you ladies.. I'm A'jel. No need to apologize, really. No harm was done," He said shaking Andere's offered hand, mentally going over manners and the like.
All in all he couldn't imagine a queen apologizing, or needing to rather. Err, after all! With all these little ones, he really should have been watching where he was stepping anyway! Yeah...that's why.
"Congratulations, by the way. The two of you are bound to make a wonderful pair." A'jel's smile seemed more natural now.

Andere nodded, her grip firm. Her father had certainly taught her well! "A'jel? Pleasure's mine, I'm sure." Nodding down to Kanaleth, she raised her eyebrows at the young dragon. The gold, for her part, couldn't help but snort softly, amused by the antics of Hers and this other rider. When she didn't responded immediately, her redhead bumped her with a leg and Kanaleth straightened herself, rearranging her wings as she glanced upwards to catch the man's gaze.
I apologize for bumping into you, Kanaleth intoned, her voice shimmering like a smile, I was not watching where I was going. I will be more careful in the future.
The gold shifted her gaze back to her rider, waiting patiently for that small nod of approval. Andere turned her attention back to the younger man, a smile turning the corners of her lips upward. "Thank you," she replied, dipping her head. "I hadn't really expected this sort of thing when I was Searched, but." A shrug. "I have a very good feeling about this. Would you like to join us for-"
Andere was cut off; out of no where, she rocketed forward, flapping her wings once as she nearly barreled into someone else as she wheeled around to face her sister, clearly pleased Aceth had come to join the small gathering. If her reaction wasn't enough, Kanaleth hummed loudly, eyes whirling a bright blue as she approached the smaller dragon. Aceth! the Queen crooned, struggling as she tried to decide whether it was more appropriate to sit or stand, I am glad you came. This is Mine. She glanced back at Andere. Mine, say hello to Aceth and Hers, please.
Andere raised her eyebrows, flashing A'jel an apologetic look before turning to the newly made greenrider and extending her hand. "Hello," she greeted him, her quiet smile still in place. "I am Andere. This is A'jel." She motioned to the other rider, not about to forget him. "And yourself?"
Kanaleth, clearly pleased with how well Hers was taking all the meeting and greeting, stretched her wings and nosed Aceth. Do you know anyone else here? I would like to meet all our clutchmates, wouldn't you?

Aceth grinned as Kanaleth greeted them. Mine, this is Kanaleth and Hers! She nudged S'ril gently in the leg, and he accepted the proffered hand, shaking it firmly. "I'm Sor- er. S'ril. And this is Aceth." Aceth looked up at Andere, but made no sound in greeting. S'ril nudged her with his toe, and she gave a gentle croon of greeting, though she nudged S'ril back.
I haven't met anyone else yet - Mine wanted badly to eat right away. S'ril nearly protested, then realized that she was speaking to Kanaleth, and held his tongue. But I want to!
Looking over at the pair briefly, then bringing his eyes back up to Andere, he realized he hadn't introduced himself to the other rider. "Oh, my apologies for being rude," he said, and offered his had to the one he was introduced to as A'jel.
"I didn't expect dragonets to be so energetic, y'know? Aceth has hardly wanted to stop moving since she hatched."

A'jel gave the young queen a soft smile, "The fault was not yours. With young dragonets about we should all probably watch our footing." A'jel assured her.
"Ah," A'jel nodded turning his attention back to Andere. "I well understand not expecting to be chosen," he himself had been a 'stands' impression. Though he was sure it in no way compared to being the queen's chosen bond.
And then they were joined by another. A'jel watched the interaction of Kanaleth and Aceth with a casual, yet perhaps warm, expression. He then heard his name, and snapped back.
"Hello," A'jel replied to the new green rider who had joined them. "Congratulations to you as well."
A'jelMine! You still need to find Brath and His!
Would you make up your mind, Vogieth? Would you rather I attempt to get along with my peers, or find you a future playmate? A'jel delivered his ultimatum to his bonded. Vogieth did not reply. I thought as much.

Perditith bound into the dining hall, all excitement and brightly whirling blue eyes. Her antics knocked over a few people though, as the green hardly seemed to realized her size, leaving Lala to help them to their feet again once her errant green had passed.
"Perditith!" She called out, and the green came to a screeching halt and looked around at her's.
'Yes, Mine?' she asked cheerfully.
"You gotta stop bowling people over like that. It's not nice." the patient woman said, moving forward quickly with her long, easy stride, catching up to her green.
'Oooh, they're fine!' was the reply as the green stretched her neck around and saw the people she had knocked into dispersing.
"It doesn't matter, you should watch where you're going. Soon you'll be much bigger and you will hurt someone if you go running around like that inside!" Lala said, fixing hers with a slight frown. Dragons were much smarter than the animals she normally worked with, but she knew that such behavior had to be corrected while they were young or it could be disasterous later on in life. That really went for children, dragons, and animals, actually. So she tried not to feel too bad when her dragon gave her an abashed look.
'I will be more careful.' the green moped 'You are angry with me?' She asked, looking up at her's with saddened eyes.
Lala couldn't take it, so she bent down and hugged her dragon around the neck "Of course not, love. You just need to be careful is all."
Perditith looked releived, her happy demeanor returning with her absolution. 'That is good! Can we go meet my clutchmates and their's now, then?' she asked hopefully as Lala got back to her feet and looked around.
"Yeah, just let me grab some grub first." Lala said, heading for one of the tables laden with food, her dragon following along behind, a little more careful now. She still occasionally bumped people, but Lala was willing to put it down to the clumsiness of the newly hatched.
'Grub? What's grub?' the green asked curiously, craning her neck around to watch as her lifemate took a roll, deftly cut it open with a belt knife, and start piling things on it. 'Smells nice, but that's food mine. Not grub.'
"Grub it just a word for food." Lala explained distractedly as she piled some nice slices of roast wherry and other things onto her bread, making herself a sandwich so she could walk and eat.
'Oooh.' Perditith said as she watched her rider turn from the table and then take a bite 'Can I have some grub?' she asked hopefully.
"You already ate."
'Yeah, that smells nice though...'
"Do you want to eat, or do you want to go meet people?" Lala asked archly.
'Ooh! Right! Meeting time!' Perditith said excitedly as she was off with a bound, leaving Lala to hurry along in her wake. 'Kanaleth! Aceth! Have yours meet mine! They should all be friends, and then we shall play some games!' she called as she screeched to a halt by her two clutchmates, nipping playfully at the both of them.
"Who said anything about games?" Lala said under her breath, rolling her eyes. She had a feeling she'd have to let the green play something soon though, or she wouldn't get a wink of sleep tonight. "Sorry about her." Lala said, turning her eyes to the three people who stood there by the dragonets. She didn't recognize any of them beyond knowing that they were now fellow weyrlings "She's the...eager type." Lala said with a slight smile, taking a bite of her sandwhich to quiet her roiling stomach.
Once she had swallowed she said "I'm Lauretia, but most everyone calls me Lala. This is Perditith." The very tall, tan young woman gave a slight bow of her head to them all, not sure of the ranks of any of these people, or even how a person normally greeted a rider.
