Anyone here enjoy reading in any languages other than their mother language?
Being able to do so requires a reasonably level in the language you're learning, but in my opinion it is good practice and more often than not, it pays off (for more ideas as to how to enhance your language learning, see spanishnerd's sticky about the best ways to practice a language 3nodding ).
For those of you who read in another language, what do you read? Books, comics, etc? What genres? What are some of your favourite works/authors etc?
I read mostly in French (though I also have read the Harry Potter series in Japanese biggrin ). I read mostly chapter books and online newspaper articles (www.lemonde.fr for anyone who's interested), but occasionaly I read some comics (vive Asterix et Obelix blaugh ) and poetry (anyone here heard of Marceline Desbordes-Valmore? awesome poet, that woman). As for books, I like:
The Amos Daragon series by Bryan Perro
Le cri de la mouette by Emanuelle Laborit
Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
Le tour de monde en 80 jours by Jules Verne

I love reading in Spanish! I mostly read magazines and website articles, but I have read my share of short stories and books. I own a couple novels in Spanish. The ones I like most:
Casi una mujer-Esmerelda Santiago
American Chica-Marie Arana
La Rozon de mi Vida-Eva Peron
I have many other little books too biggrin . They're so cute! 4laugh

Alas, I usually only read in English because books in other languages are rare to find where I am...
I want the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane in French. I think I'll get my parents to get it for me for my birthday. 3nodding

I only tend to read english books. But it seems that every time I visit my grandparents, I find a book in swedish and attempt to read it.

In my spanish class we read a lot of hispanic literature, and it's fascinating. I love the obsession with death and strange things. One of my favorites has got to be Enrique Anderson Imbert. He's so obscure.

I love reading in English (SL), since many great books are poorly translated. The Lord of the Rings, for example, is a great book I can't stand reading the translation of...
In Arabic class we quite often read stories, newspapers and articles, but I don't think I'm capable of reading a real book in Arabic yet, unfortunately.

I actually started reading manga in French back in middle school. I also used it to work on my Japanese character recognition.
I attempted Lord of the Rings in Japanese, but the kanji was a bit too dense for me to get very far.

I read German news articles all the time. Sometimes it's complicated and I have to use a German to English dictionary to figure words out because online translators don't do the job. I'm only in German I but this is really helping me along with structure of sentences and such.

If you're learning French there is mostly likely a French bookstore somewhere not too far from you live but you will have to look around to find one. It took me 2 or so years to find the one that I'm goind to tomorrow ninja

I'm from Ontario smile in any case my recommendation would be to try to find others in your area learning French, because from my own experiences it seems that these sorts of things seem to travel more by word of mouth as opposed to TV or the internet, others who live nearby and are learning French are sure to know some place where you can get stuff.
And yesh, I went to the french bookstore today... 4laugh I can't even describe the experience. I practically died of hapiness just walking in.. and it was pretty big, I ended up buying like 20 book and 1 dvd domokun
