Blue hooves marched through the grass, heading away from the herd that was their home. The young filly they belonged to held her head high as she stomped along, feathers bobbing on top of her head as she walked. She had managed to wander away from the watchful eyes of her parents, on the lookout for those worthy of surrounding her. As she pranced along, her tail fanned out, stirring up the grass around her feet, only the best of the best for Parade Elegy. Her feet crashed against the ground rhythmically as she approached a clump of bushes up ahead, sticking her head through first before she trotted through.
Her mother would never look for her this far away, especially with her two sisters to watch, which left her free to do whatever she liked and at the moment that was thinking about how much she disliked being stuck with her family all the time, excluding her father of course. She didn't need to tell them that she was the best of her father's children, she was sure her family already knew and she needed someone to brag to.

Harmony was out and about, walking down a pathway through a sloping meadow that had been seldom used until she had taken a specific interest in it. She had gone out farther than she usually did, though, where the pathway wasn't a pathway at all, merely a skinny deer trail that wound its way through the undergrowth. Still, something compelled Harmony to move forward. Perhaps she would see something interesting if she kept going. It had been so long since she had seen something that piqued her curiosities...the plain truth was that her little clearing had been boring lately. Usually bustling with travelers, mainly a deep blue-colored one that kept on returning for some reason, Harmony's home had been empty and desolate recently. So she had taken to wandering farther than she usually would, in search of something fun to do.
This time, it seemed, she wasn't to be disappointed. A silvery mare walked jauntily through the grass only a few yards away. She certainly looked interesting, being covered in scales like that. Harmony had heard of Kirin, of course, but she had never seen one until now. "Hello, there!" she called out as she approached, a big smile on her face.
