Displeasure and irritation, impatience and arrogance. The old feelings of not dealing with life were creeping up on Grinch again. Joys aggravated him, pleasurable sounds made him want to scratch out necks. Laughter and merrymaking were unbearable thoughts. If he stayed where he was, for sure some happy-go-lucky fool would find his way to his cave.

Grinch was going out in search of solitude, ducking away from the welcome waters and pleasant locations for most lions. He needed freedom from creatures, especially the content ones he would undoubtedly find should he travel in favorable areas.

Alone, eyes un-focused sat Aksel limp on a boulder, a heavy sigh escaping him as though he'd forced the breath from his lungs. His head hung low as did the rest of his body. He found it harder and harder to get up each day, wondering what the future could possibly hold for him.

No flowers seemed colorful to him anymore, the sun seemed less bright and usually cheerful noises seemed like meaningless ticking on some sort of clock that just kept moving on and on. Weither he actually got up to do anything or not the clock moved. But he just couldn't fathom what he should be doing.

As still as Aksel lay, Grinch almost passed right by him. The green lion froze as he realized Aksel was there, then gave him a critical look over. He pulled his lips together, then let them hang again. Finally, Grinch plopped down beside Aksel. "Anguish and languish." He greeted.

Until the Grinch had plopped down next to him, Aksel hadn't noticed the big green male. "Aye.." He simply moved his head so it faced Grinch enough that he could see him clearly. "Rough times these are..."

Grinch snorted. "What new problem has come to you?"

He looked over the lion, trying to guess what else there was, but he hadn't heard from him in such a long time that there was nothing that he could begin to think.

A sad smile spread across his maw as he simply looked at Grinch for a long moment. His voice seemed weak as he spoke. "Nothing new really...But to talk about my past and what...Aidan said...isn't going to fix it..." An eyebrow lifts. "You snort...yet here you lay much like me..."

Grinch frowned. "You sit here, all in a fear, for a trouble long past? How long will that foolishness last? Foolish, stupid, foolish, goody-goody-" Grump, grump, grump.

"Heh...yeah it's the past. I'm aware of that. But sometimes...it takes a while to heal from a deep wound..." With that he moved into a position where his head rested on his paws, more on his stomach now.

"Nothing heals when no steps are taken to heal. You will become a bitter and angry old fool." Grinch stood up, snorting dismissively now. He started to walk away, muttering now to himself. "Just like Aidan."

Ears perk followed by the rest of him. "Aidan huh? You would know wouldn't you? He's your son right? You would know him as well as the back of your fuzzy paw...Well I don't. I regret it everyday, but I don't know him." By then he'd walked up into Grinch's path mostly unconsciously.

Grinch growled a bit under his throat. "That is your fault now. You found him, I don't know how, but you found him. Then you left again." Grinch turned around suddenly, eying Aksel with a fury. "Do you know how that hurt? What is it, was he not good enough, once you found him? Was he not worth fighting to regain?" He snarled, but turned back around as quickly as he had turned on Aksel, turned his back again to him. "Nevermind, it is too late now."

Aksel met Grinch's growl with one of his own, his brown eyes blazing with anger he hadn't realized he felt. "I tracked his scent and asked about him for so long. When I finally got to him, finally saw him alive and healthy...do you think it was easy for me? He told me to get lost. I did stay, and you know what? He ran into me again." The muscles in his jaw tightened as he stood there, glaring at the green lion's back. "He told me that You are his Father! That it doesn't matter if you found him. I would've raised him if I had found him! He is the only family I have left in this world, and he told me to leave!" Tears now stung his eyes. "Fight? I fought. I'd still fight too if I had seen any sign of him wanting me around..."

Grinch shrugged. "Yeah? I told him to get lost too, his whole life. It may be the only way he knows how to talk to people. Probably says that to his wife." He grumbled. "And daughter." Grumble, grump. "Creepy." Grrr, grump, snuff. "And monkey. And trousers. I wish those would get lost. But you? You should have tried."
PostPosted: Sat Mar 20, 2010 8:29 pm

"So you never wanted him huh? You just wanted to dump him. I bet you don't care about him. If he left you alone for good, you'd love that wouldn't you?" He tenses up hearing Wife and Daughter, eyes wide. "He has a mate and daughter?" Stops for a moment. "No...Aidan has a strong heart, he wouldn't be so cold...not to those he loves at least....A...a monkey?? And Pants? Now that is...different...." Sits down, trying to imagine the vine covered male in pants with a monkey on his head. A chuckle forms from deep in his throat. "Oh my my my..."

"That's right, I can't stand him. I would like for him to go away for good. I would prefer that he not bring more strangeness my way. May it be forbidden he has a whole litter of cubs, or finds more cast aways. He is cold, he has a very cold heart. Why else would he bring all that onto me?" Grinch's words grew more and more bitter. "It would be better that he not return."
