Tick... tick... tick... Ary sighed, glaring at the clock silently. Aludra was returning for another class with her and, to be honest, she was rather thankful. After a rather nasty fight with a certain halfling, she really didn't want to exert herself with her side a nice shade of purple and tender to movement and touch.

"Hm... Wonder if we'll continue sword fighting," she mused aloud, already having the swords out and ready for use.

Aludra was proud of himself for being on time to his class, though he didn't yet possess his own sword [despite having asked his guardian for one... repeatedly]. His tail flipped back and forth behind him as he made his way to the classroom where his same teacher was waiting, anklewing and what was left of the other one fluttering happily at being back in this room once again. He smiled faintly at his teacher for a moment, not really realizing that he'd gone through some rather drastic changes in the past few months, and stepped forward.

"Pleasure to see you again. I assume that my predictions are correct and that we'll be continuing the lesson that was started the last time the both of us met up at this locale?" he questioned elaborately, rather than stating something that could have easily been quite a bit more simple, glancing at the swords that were sitting near the two of them so innocently. Regardless of why they needed to learn this self-defense stuff, there was just something about swordplay that Aludra just loved.

Ary glanced at Aludra, instantly picking up on the changes. "If you wish to. I won't be up to par due to an unfortunate event that occurred not too long ago. However, don't think that means you'll be getting it easy," she replied as she tossed a sword at him and grabbed her own.

"I'll make a deal with you; best me before the end of the class and I'll give you a sword. You have a lot of promise kid, don't waste it," she added, knowing there was a sword somewhere that would suit him. Well, at least till he outgrew it if that ever happened. Who knew how many times these demon/angel spawns would grow or if they would even stop? Besides, she had to get rid of a few somehow since it didn't look like she'd need them anytime soon.

Ignoring the flickers of pain that emanated from her bruised side, the female rose slowly to her feet while favoring the injured side a bit. Someone with a skilled eye for such things might notice it, but most would be oblivious.

A soft smirk came to Aludra's face at the warning for the both of them, and he caught the wooden sword that was tossed at him, adjusting it in his hands. "I would expect nothing less. Were I to have an easy class with you, I believe I should begin to get very worried," he stated with a soft chuckle as he wracked his brain to regain the movements he'd learned in his last lesson, going through the motions smoothly.

At the promise of a sword, the young spawn's eyes lit up immediately. That would only be an awesome thing to be gifted, especially since he was near-positive that the woman meant he would be getting a real one rather than one of the wooden ones that he'd been using. "Perfect motivator if I've ever heard one," he replied, tail flicking back and forth behind him in excitement. Maybe he'd get a chance to try out the sword that he would get during his next lesson? Then again... he probably wasn't careful enough with his swordplay to be trusted to not hurt his teacher. Nevermind that idea.

As predicted, Aludra didn't have the eye to notice the slight favouring of his teacher, honestly surprised that she wasn't complaining as much as most people he knew would at any kind of pain. He moved into a starting stance. "Is there anything that I'll be learning today, or will it simply be training of what I learned last time?"

Ary laughed as well at both his comments. “If I gave an easy class, I wouldn’t be working here. Perhaps if you return a third time we can try using real swords,” she joked, knowing full well that such a thing wouldn’t happen without serious injuries. But, it was a thought if someone expressed superior talent... Peh, like that would happen.

"Learning something new? No, not really. Perhaps you'll pick up on a trick or two, but it certainly won't be as simple as wailing on each other. I'd suggest standing on my desk for a moment while I... prepare," Ary added, an idea sprouting into her head last minute. It would certainly test the boy's limits and provide a major challenge for him. Not to mention his frustration might lead to her getting wet and having to mop up the floor... Oh well, everything was waterproof by default.

Once the boy climbed off the floor and it was deemed clear of most obstacles, the female moved to the center of the room and crouched down as low as she could. If one looked close enough, one might see pure crystal eyes glowing a bright white beneath strange, snow-colored hair. A soft breath was exhaled and a pale finger reached out and touched the floor. Almost instantly, ice quickly laced out across the tiles, coating it in a misty white. Swiftly the icy tendrils laced out, breaking off into smaller strands to coat the floor and eventually grow. Within moments the previously clean tiles were coated in almost two inches of pure ice.

"There. I've made it a little rougher than most trained students would have to endure during training exercises since you haven't endured what they would have. This is to test balance and coordination, making you think on your feet. Literally. Think of it like a blindfold, but to train your lower half instead of your senses," the teacher explained as she stood up, trailing the tip of her sword along the floor as if moved into a starting position.

"Now, let the class begin."

A broad grin broke out on Aludra's face at the idea of being able to fight with real swords, though he was sure that it was probably a dangerous and stupid thing to want to do, especially considering that his vision of that fight didn't involve armour and his self-preservation instincts were meager at best. Yet, he was still excited, ignorant to any kind of worries when he was asked to hop up onto the bench.

Kicking his legs, he was preoccupied with daydreaming about for a couple seconds, mind distant until he noticed the sounds coming from the ice growing on the floor. Tri-coloured eyes widened and he jumped onto the desk, eyes darting from Ary to the ice and back again. He was going to practice on- on this?! He growled softly, tail flicking a bit before she stood and he jumped from his place on the desk, predictably sliding on the ice and smacking his head against the desk's corner.

After a brief moment of blackness crawling across his vision, he hauled himself back upward, cursing under his breath and rubbing the pained spot at the back of his skull. Alrighty, he was definitely pissed enough to be thinking only about this stupid fight, that was for certain. His tail lashed behind him as he walked across the ground, retrieving his own sword and trying not to slip. It didn't take long for him to find a solution, however.

Grinning once again, though this time in a bit more of a twisted manner, he jumped back on the desk and pulled up his legs, untying his shoes and dropping both to the ground. That done, he hopped off of the desk and forced the bottoms of his feet to heat, thus-by sticking them to the ground. He tried to lift them only to find them stuck. Pouting, he pulled the heat up again, even that taking a moment before he was actually able to pull them off. Either he would get used to that or heat them further and make it possible to slide across the ice. Both would work...

Still a bit distracted, he took his own starting position and nodded to the woman, prepared to begin. "After you."

Ary couldn’t help but smirk a bit as Aludra slipped and fell as soon as his feet touched the ground again. Of course, him smacking his head into her desk was a little worrisome, but it soon became clear the spawn was fine for the most part. “Not liking the ice I assume?” she asked, trying to hide the smirk that threatened to grace her features. It was always amusing to watch those not totally suited to her element try and take it on and, well, fail miserably.

“You’ll learn soon enough how to walk on it without your fire magic,” she added, a hint of cold amusement in her tone. However, upon saying fire magic it took on that of extreme hatred for the briefest moment. Nothing could ever make her forget wh-Stopping herself from continuing, Ary tightened her grip on the sword in front of her. Aludra had given her the first move, a fairly stupid idea in her opinion, had it been a true battle to the finish. Smirk finally appearing and growing as the temperature slowly dropped, Ary nimbly dashed forward to slash at the teen’s midsection. Her feet never slid an inch as they moved her forward and then to the side to avoid a counterattack or him falling.

The odd lilt to the woman's voice was not missed by Aludra's ears. The wings on his ankles fluttered gently, almost cautiously, at the way the woman had spoke. However, the drop in temperature tipped the tables in her favour even more than would have been expected. Though he had enjoyed playing in snow, never seen a problem when he was younger. He didn't think that a simple drop in temperature would ever have the ability to hit him so hard that it gave him a headrush, but apparently he should have expected that. After all, with how melded he was becoming with that fire magic of his... it only made sense...

Stupid for realizing it now, though, when all it did was make him overthink and get extremely dizzy. Doing what he could to spread the natural heat over more of his body, the next dizzy spell came at the perfectly wrong time, his vision clearing when his teacher was no more than a foot away from him. Eyes snapping wide, he blocked and dodged awkwardly, upper body falling off-balance. Mid-fall, he did what he could to get his feet off of the ice lest he break some part of himself, finally yanking them up with enough force to turn his entire body over in a backwards somersault. Before he realized his feet were off the ground, he was back on them again.

Dazed for at least a moment, he forced the strange gracefulness of his last movement from his mind, trying to remember what he knew about ice from science classes, trying to get his feet to work with him and the ice. Little longer than an instant had him back in the frey, his own hit coming from over the head, dangerous as he'd been told, aimed to miss by only a fraction on Ary's right side before turning in just slightly to attempt a blow at her ribs.

Ary watched the odd gracelessness of Aludra's fall and twist back into a fighting stance. As soon as the boy started towards her, the deadly smirk returned, almost a hint of insanity held within. "Good. You're thinking. I was afraid the cold would numb you completely like everyone else that enters my domain," she called out, gracefully twirling her blade to block the blade before it hit her ribs.

Throwing the blade off with ease, her stance changed from that of defense to that of offense, lunging forward to attempt at a swipe across the boy's midsection. If he blocked, she'd dart away but if he didn't... Well, she'd simply gloat and wait for the boy to recover.

It certainly wasn't taking Aludra as long to warm up to this icy situation as he had initially suspected. The heat from his magic was slowly heating his body from top to bottom, making him have a much easier time getting around, along with the fact that it was keeping him from stiffening up too badly - it also helped with gliding over the ice, not that he'd needed to do that quite yet. But he was sure that it would help, when the situation arose.

To the comment from his teacher, he did not respond with anything more than a smirk. True, he was still thinking on his feet and still trying to move as well as he would be able to otherwise, but it was difficult. Very difficult. It took him a dozen times more focus to keep himself moving, to keep himself warm, to know his next move and to predict her's. As he had deduced long ago, swordplay was like chess, and if that was the case, then this... this was like speed chess. With cheerleaders. And blindfolds.

Still on the offense himself, Aludra noted the change of stance, but did not alter his own. Instead of allowing her movement, he moved forward to meet the swing, twisting his arm to meet the blade of the wooden sword with his own, pressing the palm of his other hand into the flat portion of his own blade to shove Ary backward as best as he could attempt. His free hand pulled back once again, pulling the sword downward with the momentum and pulling it then over his head, hoping that he'd done so fast enough that his teacher was still recovering instead of calling him on how dangerous overhead attacks were.

Ary had to admit that the teenager caught her off-guard a little bit with his latest move that could have proved to be deadly had they been in a real sword fight. Balance lost and stumbling ever so slightly for a foothold, it took all her concentration to block the attack and not fall over completely. Thankfully for her, the wooden blade caught the attacking one before it could make contact and deliver the “fatal” blow. Neither her nor Aludra’s sword budged an inch, struggling a little to fend off the other. “Good job Aludra, caught me off guard there... too bad it didn’t work like you had hoped,” she muttered with a smirk.

In a tremendous show of strength, Ary shifted her sword a couple degrees before completely throwing him off. Quickly, she lunged forward, feinted a blow to his shoulder and aimed for his opposite ribs last moment. It was nothing less than a sort of last-ditch move with little success in actually working and injuring an opponent. Especially when the “injury” wouldn’t be anything more than a bruise with enough force and simply knock the teen off balance like he had done with her. Then again, such an opportunity would provide her with the “killing move” and finish up their little sparring match easily enough.

The cockiest grin ever found on a humility child greeted Aludra's lips at the praise, tail lashing behind him as he tried to keep his feet themselves warm enough to not freeze the the chill of the room, let alone the ice they were skating on. When the male was thrown off, he snarled softly in his throat, the red in his eyes consuming the more dominant green like fire raging through a prairie, every part of himself completely focused on this fight. As artificial as it may have been, it was both a matter of proving to himself that he could fight and winning something that he wanted. After the loss of his halo, that was one thing that Aludra needed: Something to fill the strange, greed-based void that losing his most prized possession had left. A sword would do part of that job very nicely.

The feigning had already become something that Aludra was starting to expect, anticipate even. They were both trying to trick each other so often that the fight was more about being suspicious of your opponent than it was about fighting. Without a second thought, the young man's sword followed the movement of his teachers. At the moment he knew her true intent, he side-stepped and locked his sword with Ary's at the hilt, one hand pressing against the base of his and shoving it toward the woman's chest, putting as much of his weight into it as he could risk without the chance of him falling over.

As Aludra's sword connected with hers, Ary quickly shifted to throw her weight behind the blade as well. Both feet pointed towards the teen, seemingly the worst pose to hold one's ground with and yet, the woman didn't seem at all concerned about it. Her crystal blue eyes watched his, flickering to something darker, blacker the longer they struggled to throw the other off. He had no chance of winning a competition of strength, nor one of skill. Not yet. Still, she had to give him props for quick thinking and strategy in their little game. Like all games, this one had to end as well.

Growling, her foot shifted and with insanely inhuman strength, threw the blade off hers. The two slid along each other, sending a soft shower of sparks flying into the air and back down to the frozen floor. A sharp, metallic ring vibrated through the air as they finally parted, keeping silence at bay ever so briefly. Ary didn't hesitate, darting after the boy with the intent to deliver the supposedly fatal blow as the teen was distracted. She figured swinging it around for a blow to the neck would work, stopping it inches from flesh would surely scare him enough to admit defeat. Right?
PostPosted: Tue Feb 15, 2011 3:39 pm

Sure enough, the woman's strength was more than enough to push Aludra off of her, causing the boy to stumble back. Unlucky for him, he had already lost his footing, something that was hard for him to regain on the icy surface that his fire magic absolutely detested. Growing softly, he narrowed his red eyes, sending waves of heat to the soles of his feet and practically melting the layer of ice beneath him, looking up barely in time to see the other coming at him once again.

His sword met the other at his shoulder and, using the same technique he had before of causing his warmed feet to cling to the icy surface, he leeeaned himself back, eyes almost closing as he was barely able to lean far enough back for the aluminum sword to pass a few inches in front of his nose.

Not giving himself a chance to sigh in relief, he slid his own sword along the other one, switching which side it was on and shoving off, turning in a full circle and aiming his next attack at his teacher's middle, seeming to have forgotten the fact that this was only a play fight in his desperation for that prize.

Ary hissed in anger as her sword JUST missed Aludra's nose, being thrown off moments later as he retaliated. Damn boy was fast. Any and all memory of this being a simple practice fight were fading from her mind as well, unwilling to lose to a mere CHILD. Sword twirling back to a set position, it took only a fraction of a second for her to notice his incoming attack and plot a way to turn it to her advantage.

Her sword arced around and stopped just in time to bring Aludra's blade to a full stop inches from her side. Quick as lightning her grip shifted around and altered the teen's attack from her torso to the ground. Threat taken care of, the woman let loose an almost feral snarl as she darted forward. Blood wouldn't be shed, but she would win. Nobody bested her in a sword fight. Nobody.

Ary darted partway to Aludra's side, striking out against his torso with a similar move to his. Instead of being a steady chop across the middle, however, her blade went to slide across chest. At least, it appeared to be her intent till she heaved her sword upwards and then down again with only a fraction of a second in difference. She was not going to lose! She will NOT lose!
