User ImagePeople outside the University were so peculiar, it wasn't any wonder that her parents didn't like any of them to get out often. Still Emily found that it was quite the experience to see a flustered Elarinya fawn over her every other action - like having a second, more socially awkward, thinner tailed, paler, and less graceful momma! Ella also didn't seem to have a spirit of fun with her either, so that added to the strangeness of her visitations outside.

For instance, what was the thing about that thief? She didn't seem so bad, and she even gave Emily candy, which she was currently nibbling on in delight. Ah, Reeses Cups! You couldn't beat chocolated and peanut butter as far as she was concerned. No wait, chocolate and caramel . . . now that was a combination! And maybe if she had a few nuts in it too to add that nice crunch . . . Ah, how her mouth watered, how she hungered for more candy! Originally this was supposed to be for Reese as a thank you for giving her Reeses earlier (maybe he could go share it with Amaranth?), but the scarved cat was really hard to find all of a sudden, and the mroe she had walked the hungrier the young Somali got until, well . . . the cup just found its way into her mouth without warning!

For now, Emily was skirting the edge of the University with the outside world, loving the sunlight on her fur where Caek didn't cast shadows; he was currently perched about her neck using his velcro pawpads to cling to her like the jealous thing he was. The young kitten purred contentedly as she finished the last of the cup, chocolate smearing her mouth as it quickly melted in the heat. "Mmmmmmmmmmmm~ Should I tell Momma and Poppa how much candy I've been eating?" she asked Caek. There was a small pause. "Yeah, you're right. Momma would probably not like it at all, she'd say it's not healthy to eat. Maybe make me keep the same figure she has . . . Well, I'm kinda skinny as it is," Emily commented, looking herself over with a tiny shrug. "So we're okay there. But yeah, I guess I shouldn't tell them. Or maybe if I do, I should give them candy too so they don't feel left out? But I don't have 'money' . . ."

Dhiren quietly walked the perimeter of the territory, lost in thought. The awkward tom had matured a bit since the birth of his kits, for with Alice left weakened, he had taken on more of her duties as leader. Dealing with Remi had been bad enough at first, but there was a lot more work to do with supervision and management than he had anticipated. But even after the rocky start, the somali tom caught on fast enough and managed to sort things out. Alice was beginning to take back the portions of her job that she couldn't do before, and he was falling back into his original position of second in command. Surprisingly, it was more hectic than before; with 6 children running around now, and many of them with strange notions about this world, most of which Dhiren only wished he could discover the origins of, he had his paws full.

A familiar young voice jarred the tom from his thoughts as he rounded the treeline separating their territory from the Ruins, and he lifted amber eyes to find one of his daughters heading towards him. A warm, affectionate smile spread over his face as he watched her wander along, talking with that strange stuffed dog she came home with; a reminder of her time with the humans. Of the three girls he had with his mate, Emily was the easiest to get along with; Tempette and Iukinia seemed to have taken after Alice especially well. As they continued on their collision course, Dhiren was amused when she didn't take notice of him right away. "You shouldn't eat so much of that stuff before dinner, Emily." the tom murred quietly with a grin, catching the last of her conversation with 'caek,' "I won't tell your mother, but we should probably get rid of the evidence as well." With a chuckle, the orange tom crouched down and swiped the chocolate from his daughter's mouth with his thumb.

"It's not gonna spoil my appetite if it makes me full though, because then my appetite goes away without being spoiled," she carried on as-a-matter-of-factly, for some reason not yet realizing it was Dhiren until, belatedly, the dreamy-eyed kit noticed her vision wasn't filled with grassy lawns but pants and coat and shirt and - "POPPA~!" Emily squealed, forgiving him instantly for snatching away her chocolate (yes, she counted smears as chocolate) as she basically glomped his waist and nuzzled him affectionately - like some miniature pillow come to life with a hankering for possessing the nearest leg.

"Poppaaaaaaaaa," she purred, smiling up at him as she clung still. Well, until she realized that Caek had somehow undone his velcro grab and had fallen off, at which point she quickly sweeped him back up into her arms. "I won't do it again, promise. I was just really, really hungry. And someone gave it to me at the store. Miss Ella wasn't happy though; she called her a thief because she was taking it without paying, but Miss Ella paid for mine before we left, so I didn't steal it either, promise!" It just kinda spilled out as usual, and Emily looked no less guilty for it. Mainly she was just happy to be with her dad, so who cared what she said, right?

"So what's up, Poppa? Is Momma makin' ya patrol again? Can I come with ya? Can I?" She gave him one of those puppy-eyed looks, huggling the dog doll to her chest. "'Cause I wanna know what you're up to! Momma's always busy, and everyone else likes to wander." Well minus Novik, but she had seen him earlier anyway, so that was okay.

Dhiren released an amused breath as his daughter spilled out everything about her day without a second thought. "That's right, I'm out patrolling again." He responded in his customarily gruff voice. It was a little strange, but touching how much she enjoyed being around him, even when his job was as boring as taking a long walk around the territory. Even so, he lifted her up onto his shoulders and straightened with a flick of his ears. "I don't see why not," He grinned, beginning to continue on his path, "As long as your friend doesn't get jealous of me." Swishing his bushy tail behind him, Dhiren chuckled and gazed off over the university landscape ahead of them. "I should warn you that what I'm 'up to' isn't exactly exciting. It's just walking around the university, making sure there's nothing going on out here that's dangerous or threatening to the cats in our territory." To the older cat, just describing the duty sounded boring enough, it was a wonder to him that Emily seemed to eager to join. Children had interesting ways of looking at things sometimes...

Emily giggled a little as she was swept up onto his shoulders, resting her arms atop his head and her head atop those arms - and Caek atop her head! "It's a loooooooove sammich~" she commented with a big grin to this thought, purposefully mispronouncing "sandwich". "Soooooo what if it's just walking around? I do that all the time, and it's not always exciting, but you sometimes meet new cats, right? I did! And if we both go on a walk, maybe we'll get twice the visitors! The nice ones, I mean," she added, nuzzling Dhiren's head carefully. Caek fell off her head regardless, but she caught the doll before it coudl go to the ground and went back to hugging him to her chest - honestly, he had no sense of balance at all!

Then again, he was a dog.

"If you're bored, I can tell you about my new friends while we walk. Even if it's really you walking and me kinda sitting on you~" Emily continued, looking very content to have such a better view of the world than she normally did. Maybe one day she'd grow this tall . . . "Unless you wanna talk first 'bout your day?" Sure, Dhiren wasn't a talky sort, but she figured she'd ask first before ranting.

Chuckling quietly in his rumbling voice, Dhiren situated his daughter's weight on his shoulders before starting off again. Emily, of course, was a bundle of energy and an endless fountain of words, but he didn't mind. In the end, it was better than walking in your own silence, he thought. He flicked his ear against the kit's cheek as she nuzzled him and purred quietly. "You want to know how my day went? You know, the usual boring adult stuff, taking care of your mom, seeing that the other cats around here stay out of trouble... But none of that is any fun to talk about," He laughed, "tell me about your day. Who are all these friends you are making?" Resuming his route around the territory, the orange tom raised his ears to listen to his daughter's voice with a gentle smile on his face. With both hands gently resting against the girl's ankles at his shoulders to keep her steady, the Somali's eyes swept over the horizon before him. Always on the lookout, even when spending some time with family.

"Let's see . . ." Goodness, where to start! "Well first I met this boy called Reese, only I call him Reeses Pieces or Piece or Peace that's the other spelling, like P-E-A-C-E or P-I-E-C-E." See! She didn't have to chat her head off about her day, she could also show Poppa that she was learning her words and spellings! "And we both got candy from this thing called a vending machine. Then I met this boy called Sol, he was older than me. I think he was suntanning, 'cause he didn't have anything on except this really tight red underwear thing . . . He taught me what the word 'sexy' means, and we even got me some new clothes!"

Although . . . Daddies didn't care for clothes like Mommies did, did they? Emily moved along, skimming over the fact that Sol had also wanted to play a game with her which involved getting in a swim suit and only the two of them.

"And then I met this girl, Caroline, who was really nice and said she liked to read books, and I had this big ol' conversation with her about what it means to be smart. I still think I won that one," she added with a giggle. "I even took her to the University to let her see the coffee shop. Buuuuut the lastest kitties I met were these kids my age called, um . . . Mickinzie (but I called him Micky), Remedy (he's Remmie to me), aaaaaand Seven. Yeah I know, I don't get why he's called that either, but he is." She shrugged. "I let them all stay in the cafeteria to eat, but Micky and Seven didn't stay. Remedy wants to, though; I, um, kinda . . . adopted him?" She decided that was a safe place to stop.

Dhiren kept his eyes forward as he listened to Emily talk, all of his senses remaining focused on the task at hand. While he was glad to hear about his daughter making friends, he remained apprehensive about allowing her to roam outside of the territory. Of course, the old tom knew he couldn't realistically keep her confined forever in her nest, Tempette and Belial had made that obvious early on, so he listened with an open mind and wary ears. Wary especially when talk of Sol and 'sexy' lessons came up. It was one thing that he had fathered kits with a cat such as Alice, but to have such influence descending upon his most innocent daughter from outside sources as well caused the fur on his neck to bristle.

His daughter didn't miss a beat though and continued chattering away as they walked, so for the moment he kept his mouth quiet, his tongue clenched between his teeth as he listened. A small grin painted his maw despite the slight unease about Sol; Emily was so easygoing and kind. He wondered why all of his children didn't end up more like her. What did he do wrong? Lifting his ears up curiously at her final statement, the orange tom tilted his head a little, "...Adopting kits of your own already? Aren't you a little young for that, Em?" His tone was light and joking, but he would have to keep an eye on these young males who seemed to be tagging along with his little girl, "Also... Sol... I think you should avoid the company of toms like him." Though he didn't outright tell her, the tone of his voice flattened into a very 'Dad doesn't approve' type of sound. He had one daughter out of a litter of six who seemed to be normal, and damnit, he was going to protect her innocence if it killed him. At least one kit will grow into a decent adult, he decided.

Emily giggled again, patting her father's head. "I'm old 'nuff!" she argued. "I couldn't just leeeeave them there, right? It wouldn't be good." They'd have sat on her conscience until she relented and ran back to go take them home. It was a girl thing, taking home strays and wanting to feed them and give them love! Or at the least it was an Emily thing.

Although she didn't understand why Poppa wouldn't want her seeing Sol, and though she looked at his nose with a ponderous look, the kit accepted it. "Okies . . . I don't think I'll see him again soon anyways. I don't know where he lives," she said sheepishly, as a true friend probably would have known. Caek flopped off her head, and she snatched him in mid-air, chiding the puppy before plopping it between her stomach and the back of Dhiren's head.

"So watcha been up to, Poppa?" Emily asked. "'Asides patrollin' all the time."

"Right right, I suppose there's no arguing with that." Dhiren responded, thinking of his own feelings towards the young Somali tom, Asher. Apparently it wasn't just a girl thing. Emily must take after him, he decided with a grin, that was why she seemed more normal. He merely nodded at her obedient agreement about Sol and glanced up at the puppy plushie as it briefly fell in front of his face. Grinning, he swished his tail a few times and inclined his head a bit in thought. "I've been running errands for your mom, mostly, and trying to keep track of your wayward brothers and sisters." He told her honestly, sighing a little, "Have you heard from Belial or Tempette lately, Emily?" Although he was wary of his youngest daughter exploring outside of the territory, Dhiren was certain that the rest of his offspring had already vacated the premises. He wouldn't let on to it, but it pained him greatly that his kits had entered the world at such a young age, and that many of them seemed to hold contempt for their parents and mixed-breeds. (oddly enough)

"Um . . ." She thought about it with a tiny frown, tapping her chin. Now that she thought about it, she hadn't heard or seen from any of her siblings since, like, ever. Not even Novik, the one she was closest to of the bunch, had so much as poked his nose about; their last encounter had been about giving him a new friend like she had in Caek. Muffin had to be taking care of him, though, right? Nothing to worry about. "Haven't seen any of them, nope," Emily said after a while, the weight of those words hitting her.

Come to think of it, she never did get to talk to her older siblings, and her ma always seemed out of reach these days . . . It was almost like it was just her and Poppa. The idea alone made her cling to him just a touch tighter. "D'you know where they all went?" she asked.
