An auburn pelt glistened under the warm light of the sun, flecked with what look to be fireflies living on her pelt, forever immobilized there for all eternity. Golden eyes searched over the landscape, spring had well seeped its way into the norther regions of Telk the snow having finally melted away after rising the rivers and streams considerably. Kearith sighed as nothing new met her sights. The area in which her mate and herself had now claimed for their own was still void of any other life but their own.

It made her heart sink a little when even the wind brought her nothing. She had considered going out in search of others to ask to join them, it was beginning to get a little lonely with just Gaara around, no matter how much she loved him. They had no pups, even though they had been trying, they just had not been lucky enough yet; in time though, in time.

"Nothing..." she muttered lowering her head with a sigh and turning away from the hill. It was onto the next one in her search for others. It had become an obsessive routine of hers to look and scent for other wolves, maybe they were just too far north for many. But what did it matter, they couldn't go forever without so much as a passing lone going somewhere near them. Soon, soon someone would come, she could feel it deep in her bones.

If time was an illusion...how long had it been? So maybe his life was rough, and he had become a little rough around the edges as well, like a dull razor. He was still young. Akko still loved him -- she claimed she would forever. They had kids together, even if his first litter was already reaching two or three years old. It made him sad to see Krigger go, so sad, infact, that he'd tried to keep her locked away in his heart. But she was happy now...and he supposed that was all that mattered.

What mattered to him now, was that he got his family someplace safe. Faile hadn't been around, not at all. Without an alpha, it made him nervous. He'd always been a little bit of a coward and the idea of an alpha there, strong and proud, behind his family, made him happy. Broken Shore was on the verge of disbanding. He needed to find another place for his family. Someplace safe where they would be loved.

So he'd set out. And there he was, padding along through the forests. He wasn't sure what he was looking for -- he'd heard of a few packs, but nothing that seemed...compatible for him and his...issues. He frowned and kept moving, the bangles about his paws -- bangles he didn't remember where they even came from -- jingling and dancing with each step. He paused, stiffening to alert when he heard a feminine voice. 'Nothing...' His ears flicked back. "Hello?" His voice was rough, hollow, nervous.

Wide bright eyes looked up in shock. There in front of Kearith stood one of the strangest looking males she had ever seen in her life. Such odd markings, and the two-legger things that clung to his body. She had never seen a wolf adorning these items before. But what took her more was how she had not scented him, but in a way it didn't matter, she could see that he was nervous, and he had the scent of other on him. There could easily be more, was this a trap, no, didn't seem like one.

"Hello..."
she said blinking at him, still getting over the shock of his sudden appearance. It was as though her prayers had been answered, now if just the rest of them would be. She didn't know what to say, it had been her and Gaara for some time now, she had almost forgotten what to do when meeting another wolf.

"Are you all right?" she asked tilting her head and wagging her tail a little to show she was friendly, she knew her large size even for a female could be daunting, but Gaara was even bitter than her. It was a good thing Gaara wasn't with her, he had grown weary of her insistence in checking the borders for others every day. She looked around again and scented the air. Still nothing but she could definitely smell the male now. Maybe the wind had just not been blowing in her favor, allowing him to sneak up on her as he had.

Tilting her head at him she bowed it. "I am Kearith..." she said lifting her head back up.

It had never been his intention to sneak up and startle her, the way he knew he had. He was merely wandering, his pawsteps silent -- perhaps one thing he recalled from his past, was how to be an adept hunter. He pulled his ears back as he stood there, across from her. She was a big girl. But then again, he was small for a male, thin-boned and lanky with long legs. He sniffed the air gently, smelling her, smelling another wolf on her -- male, and he stiffened again. He looked around quickly, fearing for a moment that her mate would perhaps descend upon them and snap his neck. Oh, what a cowardly thought, he chided himself, sitting down, tail wrapping around his paws.

"I am fine, I think," he replied, his voice hushed a little. "Kearith... You are from around these parts?" His head tilted just the slightest. "I am...searching for something. Perhaps you can help me?" He smiled then, a small smile tugging at his lips. "I am Chronos..." He wanted to tell her about Akko, about how if she killed him or something, Akko would come looking for him. But he pushed the thoughts away as paranoia and smiled again, more nervous than before. Fine. You're just fine, old man.

Nodding her head she tilted her head as she listened to the male. He seemed worried still, nervous. Even as he had sat down her curled his tail so tightly around himself, as though protecting himself, holding on for dear life. She nodded her head though at his question. "Yes, my mate and I have claimed these lands as our own. But don't worry yourself, we have nothing against passer-bys." she said bowing her head.

She blinked at him, searching, so that was it, why he was acting so strangely. "If I can be of any assistance then I would be happy to help you." she said honestly, wagging her tail and sitting down as well. "It is a pleasure to meet you Chronos." she said with a bow of her head again. Tiny thing he was, but he seemed a decent male, proper, respectable. Just what her and Gaara needed in their pack and with his scent, others, maybe so many more could be recruited. She hoped, silently praying in the back of her mind.

Chronos watched her through bright green eyes, eyes that matched the various gems on his earrings and bracelets. His necklace swung a little as he shifted to his other hip. So she'd claimed these lands, and he'd blundered right through them. "I...I am sorry. I didn't pay attention to scent markers, I'm afraid." Boy, was he a fool. But then, she didn't seem mad. He offered another smile, even more curious.

"Perhaps you can... My mate... My family and I, we've been apart of a pack for a few years. The pack welcomed us in with open arms, let us bear children on their lands and offered the protection a pack should. However, lately...Faile's not been around. It worries me, especially with the tales of the Reign of Terror pack that I hear through the grapevine. I am...unsettled, Kearith." He took a small breath in. "I am looking for a pack to keep my family safe from these tyrants. I...I'm afraid I can't offer much more than be a good hunter, but I am strong for my...stature." He picked words carefully, still watching her.

She shook her head, the markers weren't strong enough with just her and Gaara trying to mark such a large area. They had been there long enough to mark everything, but not with the efficiency of a pack, she had wondered a few times why they had claimed such a larger area instead of a smaller one. But she knew all to well, her pelt shifted slightly as she relaxed more with the male, making her spotted firefly-like markings shimmer over her sides. "No worries Chronos, we have not been able to make a strong enough scent barrier around our land yet. With just the two of us, it takes a great deal of time." she shrugged with a slight smile.

The more he spoke the more her heart pounded harder in her chest, she feared it would soon burst from her chest. A dissolving pack and here Gaara and her were creating one anew. She nodded in agreement to his statement about the Reign of Terror. She had heard the whispers, but she prayed they had settled themselves far enough north and away from the pack that they would be left alone or go without notice. "I understand your concerns Chronos, I truly do. I have as well heard the rumors of this pack, and they truly are unsettling." she growled low in her throat.

She softened as she looked back up to Chronos and the worry apparent on his face for his family. "Come with me Chronos. We shall talk to my mate Gaara. Though I am sure he will have no objections to you bringing your family here." she nodded her head happily and got back onto her paws, tail high and wavering like a proud banner. "Any help you give to us with whatever abilities you have will be enough." she said nodding her head and turning back towards the living area of their lands. "Follow me." she said brightly and began to trot off in the direction where she knew Gaara was likely to be.

He relaxed at her words, finding himself becoming at ease with this femme moreso than he usually might. He flicked an ear as she spoke of not having strong scent-markers -- so he hadn't ignored them at all. Thankful, he nodded. However, at the talk of her mate, he was on his paws, hesitant once again. As much as he wanted to find a new home for his family, the idea of meeting an alpha male was...hard. It wasn't that he disliked authority -- it was that he'd never been around another male other than his sons, Sprocket and Tock. Faile had been the only Alphess he'd known and the other wolves of Broken Shore had left them be for the most part.

"I...Alright." He nodded, briskly. He paused as she began to trot off, then took a breath, chided himself for being such a coward, and hurried after her. Thoughts swirled in his head. What would Akko think about this, moving to a new pack? And the pups, would they come? They were nearly adults, after all... Or would they be like Krigger, darling Krigs, and leave for a soulmate. He sighed softly and continued to trot a little behind her.

As they moved further into the land that they had claimed as their own, Kearith could pick up the scent of Gaara. "I will let you know; Gaara can seem somewhat overbearing but he really does mean well." she sneezed a laugh. He just took getting used to was all, he was a kind and gentle it just took getting over his rough edges. "He's a little rough around the edges is all, his bark is really worse than his bite." she smiled.

She could see the dens up ahead, Gaara was likely in their den resting. She wondered how he would take to her bringing in another male. But there was good reason for such and Chronos was exactly what they had been waiting for. Now there was just one other thing they were waiting on, pups.

The great boulder that laid across the opening of the den was easily visible. Kearith looked back at Chronos and nodded her head at him "Stay here for a moment while I get Gaara. I won't be long." she said with a wag of her tail and headed into the den "Gaaara!" she called out, bouncing on her paws like a puppy. "We have a guest, he would like to join us here, and he has a family." she whined at her mate. "Come meet him, so that way we may talk together. It's exactly what we've been waiting for Gaara. And his name is Chronos..." she said with a bow of her head thinking about the male again. A strange name, but it seemed oddly fitting to the slight male.

Gaara had been lazing about the den for just a few moments. He'd run the east-side boarders to make sure there were no unwanted--or wanted--intruders, so he'd returned with a large rabbit to share with his mate when she returned.

It had taken longer than he had expected. The female never took this long, it was strange...so when he heard her voice, he poked his head out of the den, mouth full of hare and tail wagging. He wasn't too rough around the edges with her, thankfully. He loved her company and loved the territory, though it was empty still.

However, when she mentioned another male...his eyes darkened slightly and he made his way out, dropping the large rabbit on his way out. "Family?" That helped. This male had a family, he wasn't a stranger to a pack life...thankfully. Loner males tended to be...difficult to deal with. Making his way up to her, he nudged her muzzle with his own, licking his maw of the blood from the rabbit once he saw Chronos. Hm.

Setting his apathetic expression into place, he walked past her and made his way up towards Chronos, his bright jade orbs focusing on the small male's own. Gaara was large--larger than any other wolf he'd come across, except for Feanaro, who he adored as a father. This male was small, even to his mate, so that surprised him. "You say you have a family?" He smelled of many wolves..though it was just a slight scent, what with his alpha missing and all. How long had he been traveling? "I'm Gaara--the alpha of these lands," how rude, he hadn't initially introduced himself. His voice was low, dark, a tinge of welcome hidden beneath his aggressive-looking exterior.

Chronos padded along beside her, stretching out into a swift trot, his paws eating up the ground. It felt good to move, after walking cautiously for so long, although he did keep two paces behind Kearith...who could possibly be his alpha in the future. He wasn't exactly giddy about meeting her mate -- especially once the massive brown-pelted male came out from the dens and spoke in a rough manner.

It took all his bearings not to bristle his hackles, to show that he was bigger than he actually was, as fear raced through him. He finally sat down, keeping his tail around his paws and ducking his head and ears at the male. "Indeed." His own voice was nervous. "I have a mate and children. An adult and three youths. They...take after their mother in size, I'm glad to say." He offered a quirk of a smile, though he never met this Gaara's eyes. He knew better. "I am Chronos."

Kearith came up behind Gaara and nudged his head with her own, giving a whine at him. She knew he be slightly overbearing, he didn't mean to be, it was just the way Gaara was; of course his size only added to it. She smiled at Chronos with her eyes alight.

"It's perfect Gaara, we're in a good area, game is plentiful and with just the two of use there are so many empty dens, it's better for them to be filled with those who can use them than to lay bare."
she nodded her head sitting down as well licking at Gaara's maw. She knew she was right. Chronos needed a safe place for his family and good strong Alpha's and they could fulfill that gap. Even though it would just be them, with little to call a pack just yet it was at least a start.

Once one came, she knew more would come. That was just the way things worked. This was just the first of many to come. "I say we take them in. We have no reason to reject Chronos and his family." Kearith stated proudly. Though it was a little quick to judge, she just in her heart could not see the point in turning away a family who needed a pack.

Gaara opened and closed his mouth a few times when Kearith blatantly said to take them in. He hummed, closing his maw and moving to sit so the other didn't feel so uncomfortable.

"Your family is welcome here," he began, making sure to keep the tone that he wasn't finished, "But we'll be keeping watch for a bit. Think of it as a trial--I'm sure for the both of us. In return for our protection on these lands we'll need you and your family to work with us, I wont deal with laziness," he finally smiled crookedly, tail giving a half-hearted thump to the ground.

"If you need an escort back to your family I'm sure Kearith could go with you. Two wolves is much safer than one. I can hold down the fort here for a while without help. Just make sure your family gets here safe."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 21, 2010 2:25 pm

Chronos watched the two alphas with care, ears pricked forwards, focused on Gaara where his emerald eyes were locked on Kearith. He felt, safer, with the female moreso than her mate, but he guessed he'd learn to like him. Probably. He shifted his weight. "I agree," he murmured go Gaara as the older male talked of it being a trial. He turned to Kearith. "If you want to escort me home, I would be fine with it, although note that I probably won't run into trouble." He offered a smile, then stood. "Gaara... I'm sure my family will suit your lands well. Akko and I can hunt, and you could easily train the pups in anything you need."

Kear bowed her head to Chronos and nudges at her mates muzzle and licked him gently. She was happy to go with Chronos to meet with his family and bring them back to their lands. The mere thought excited her, making her paws itch to get going. She hadn't to leave her mate behind, but to make sure Chronos and his family made it back safely it was worth the short time apart.

"I would be happy to escort you Chronos and bring your family back here. But I shouldn't think you'd need to train your children, they are free to decide what they would like to do." she nodded. She didn't believe in forcing any wolf to do a job they would dislike, free will was something a wolf was proud of. "Of course every bit of help is gladly accepted they are to choose their own paths." Kear smiled and turned to mate again whining slightly and nudging him, soon enough they'd get a litter of their own and worry about these sorts of things.

"Should you like to rest before we head out?" she asked tilting her head. Though the area didn't look it, it was full of hidden dens beneath the hills. She was sure he had traveled a fair ways before stumbling upon her. She would be happy to escort him to a den where he could rest and a small hunt to feed him wasn't out of the question either. The entire ordeal was exciting, just as Gaara had said, they would come and this was just the beginning she was sure.
