She said she was going to hunt. That she would return and share her kill with him. Did he believe her? Did he really? Well...he was sitting here, wasn't he? What a fool he was! To think that after everything that had happened he was willing to risk this! As far as he knew she wasn't coming back, or worse yet, she'd wait for him to turn his back and she'd jump for the kill.

He shifted irritably, cursing himself for being such an idiot. Why was he doing this to himself? First it was that evil, manipulative golden one from his old pride. Then it was his b*****d of a brother. Then it was...then it was Anya. Everyone he seemed to grow to trust, just a little, turned on him. He was better off alone. He could only trust himself.

So why was he STILL sitting here?

"Move." He ordered himself, gruffly. And, after a moment, he hauled himself to his paws and began to move off, back into the sunlight, not really sure where he was heading, only that he needed to get away from this place and forget the meeting between him and that Kakali.

Panic started to set in, she had found the herbs needed to heal him along with the kill but it had taken a lot longer than she had first anticipated. The sunlight was starting to fade, she could feel it cooling on her back as she tugged the impala towards the stream where she had met him. Would he be there when she got back? or would he be gone, leaving her with this large animal to rot. part of her told her to be calm, he wouldn't do that, but the other half told her she was already too late.

Looking up to the sky she weighed her options. She could drop the kill where it stood, bringing him back to it, or she could continue on. She knew the stream was close after all, but would she miss him as she drug it over?

Her decision wasn't hard, hell she should have thought to do it in the first place. Tearing apart the leg of the animal she took to her feet, rushing toward the river. She wasn't a liar and wouldn't allow him to think she was. She had killed it after all, it was just so... big. Damned big.

Rushing after her familiar scent and that of her new found companion she found the space empty, but still the scent was fresh. And as she scanned the area she noticed the lion limping away from the area. a*****e.

Dropping the leg to the earth in front of her she let out a loud call. No one else was around, no one except the birds anyhow. He would have to hear her, and if he decided to ignore her call, well... she would have to just chase him down. He certainly couldn't run very far, not with a leg like that.

He was growling and grumbling to himself under his breath, more curses and mutters of disbelief. He couldn't help it, though, he was a social lion at heart and at the hint of companionship, he couldn't help but be drawn towards it. No matter what had happened to him in the past, he was still a lion, still a social beast. He couldn't seem to squash the instinct completely. What an irritant!

And then the roar brought him abruptly from his thoughts and he froze instantly, the fur on his shoulders bristling. What--? Who--? Could it be?

He turned very slowly, bright green eyes flashing across the ground, across the darkening sky. And there she was, calling to him, a chunk of meat at her paws. She had...she had kept her promise, then? But why? Why didn't she just...leave? Did she really...really, truly understand? He had suspected it. Hoped, even. But...now he was beginning to think that maybe she was trustworthy. Maybe a little. He was hesitant, but then he couldn't be blamed for that. Even still, it took him a moment before he realised that he probably ought to call back, or atleast head over towards her. She'd gone to all this trouble, after all...But...what if she tried to kill him when his guard was down?

Growling again with frustration, he exhaled noisily through his nose and headed slowly back, trying to walk without a limp as much as possible.

And, when he was close enough he called out to her. "So, you did come back."

Feeling her ears perk up as he slowly turned to her, recognizing that she had indeed kept her word. The feeling of relief rushing through her as she sat down and waited for him. It was odd though, why would she feel relieved that he was coming back. After all, they just met. Was the bond of two similar stories really that strong?

Maybe. She really did hope so. Realizing the world would be so lonely if it wasn't.

Eyes flashing as he spoke she grinned. "Yes. Impala are rather heavy though." Watching him as he moved she smiled. He was trying to hide it as best he could. His limp that was. His hope, now that was something she could see fairly well.

"You left..." She stared at the empty spot he had once sat, watching it as though there was a ghost of him still sitting there. Then she looked up, smirking at him. "Don't blame ya."

Tail flicking quickly about she jumped to the other side of the stream, leg met in mouth which she dropped to the ground once she landed. Just a taste for him, the rest waiting for later. "Some of it. The rest..." She turned to look towards the grasses and a small tree where she had pulled it to. "...Is over that way."

(( So sorry I haven't replied to this sooner ;; totally lost track! ))

"I did." He replied. There was no point in denying it and nor did he feel particularly guilty. However, he was glad that he had waited for as long as he did. If he hadn't, he would have been gone and would never have known that she had intended to come back after all.

"You were successful in your hunt, then?" He wasn't sure whether she would be or not and almost hated her for being good at it when he clearly wasn't. Then again, females had to be good for something, right? May as well be providing food if nothing else.

He drew closer, lowering his head to sniff at the food she had carried all this way with her. "For me?" His eyes followed her line of sight, wondering whether it was a good idea to leave a kill unattended. "Shall we make our way back to it, do you think?" He let his eyes fall back to her, thinking, was it wrong to trust her after this?

A small nod was given at his question. She had made it her mission to hunt down a larger sized beast just so there would be enough meat for the both of them. Hell, she had brought down a creature large enough to feed the both of them and two other males if they came about.

As he drew closer she maintained her ground, not feeling worried about the company she was with any longer. No, she had helped him, and she had the feeling he wasn’t one to let a good deed go unnoticed. “Yes. Proof that I caught something as well.” Backing away a little bit she eyed him, waiting for him to do something before noticing something in the sky.

Black wings. That just wouldn’t do at all. She knew that the kill would attract something, but the vultures… she hated them the most. Picking at whatever they wish without mercy and then running. “We must. Otherwise the damned black wings will get to it first.”

She did not wait for him to reply. No. She had to protect was hers in the first place. He would follow after, maybe help scare them away, but as far as she was concerned it was her fight.

He lifted the offered meal in his jaws and bounded after her, suddenly not wanting to be left behind. His injury pained him a little but it seemed nothing more than an irritant now that he knew food was on its way.

He could not speak for the meat that he carried in his mouth, but he knew the direction they headed and was more than happy for her to chase away those infernal beasts.

Scavenging feather-brained wastes-of-space!!

He slowed, panting a little, and dropped back to let her scatter them. He had always enjoyed such things as a youngster. But he had little patience for it now.

And, as he waited, he dropped the leg he had carried and began to tear at it, hungrily.
