Easier to maintain than a website... Funner to update than a card game... and with google adsense, possibly worth my time... I introduce, The Refined Gamer, my blog! http://refinedgamer.blogspot.com/ cool

Something a lot better and less porn than MetaRidley.com! lol
I like the first entry in your blog, but you covered a lot of points I have realized since the release of Fallout 3 and over time. As for you mentioning Mass Effect, I might just put in a little post in there to disagree with you (due to ME2).
As for those games, why not mention other big rpg titles? Diablo 1 or 2 didn't come to mind when you wrote this?
Keep a look out for my posts for some intellectual debates! I am also going to be sending a link to a friend who might be interested in this.
Good Luck!

I decided to mention the titles that if I were to walk into Gamestop, right now, would be advertised the most. I suppose I left out Dragon's Age (slipped my mind).
Diablo 1+2 would be perfect examples of games that aren't really RPGs though.
Just out of curiosity, are you going to be saying that ME2 is not a true RPG? I haven't played 2 (though I will eventually), just genuinely curious.
Looking forward to your comment, I've been posting on other forums with this blog in my signature hoping to attract some people. (My view count shown by blogger is going up.. not so much the comments or followers though xD)

Just a quick reply, but ME2 cuts loose a lot of things that made ME1 so called "elements" of an rpg. Such as loot, less skills(very small choice of 3-5 skills that evolve once into 2 different stat bonuses of choice when full), and any sense of item mathamatics (weapon damage vs. armor).
It is very stream lined to the likes of Gears of War in space. In my opinion of course.
Sorry if some of this is kinda not making much sense. I am helping trying to nurture a week old squirrel

Everything you said made sense, until you talked about nurturing a squirrel.

You should be sorry, had me waiting for a while. Also that this wasn't what I expected to be seen. Looks like you rushed this one. Had to convince my friend to keep watching your blog for more interesting stuff : P
Also, I have an idea for down the line for your blog. Maybe a podcast discussion? When I move out of MI, my friend and I will make a demo for you to check out to see if your interested.
I was thinking it would be us 3 discussing/debating about different topics from time to time to compliment your blog. Just a thought if your interested. It would kinda be good I think to have a Sony(he is a fanboy xD, but a understandable one at that) vs Microsoft vs Old School discussion. Discussions would of course be about the gaming corporate world, developers, etc.

Yeah, it was rushed. I still stand by my belief that it's pretty interesting how almost every single popular character ultimately fits the "stoic warrior" archetype.
The blog isn't going to just solely be wall of text essays about the gaming industry. I'm going to have those, don't worry, but I want to have a variety. Some discussion starters like what you saw (guess that kind of fails currently since the viewer base is pretty damn small), some short commentaries, and soon reviews.
Anyways, I'm planning on doing some smaller, more humorous things in the very near future. I do have a couple big plans for the blog, namely events like, reviewing every single final fantasy game in a row, then analyzing the entire series as a whole.
And yes, I intend to treat the whole series harshly (Final Fantasy 1 isn't getting any higher than a 6, for instance)
But, as I'm sure you know, playing Final Fantasy games is time consuming stuff.
Also, you and your friend should know that if you'd like, you can do "guest blogs" where you submit something that's discussion worthy,
As for a podcast, I still don't have a good mic, but it is an interesting idea. I've never been a particularly big fan of podcasts, but I'd try it out if you guys want to.
So yeah, tell your friend to contact me. Either blogger message me, gaia PM me, or AIM me at nittheyellowdart. Next time I'll convince him to keep reading =P Like I said, there's going to be variety, stuff for hopefully everyone.

Posted up a 6 page review of FFXIII's story chapter by chapter. With accommodating graph. Yeah. I went there.
