name» Carlisle Scott
nicknames» Lisle
gender» who knows?
birth date» 17 May
sign» Taurus

hobbies»
-----Piano-- Carlisle is still studying, but there's a certain peace and joy that he finds in playing the piano.

-----Doll collecting-- This hobby strikes him as odd; it feels almost sacrilegious. He keeps a collection of dolls in a glass-fronted cabinet where he can see them.

-----Ballroom dance-- A skill he's picked up from his father, he practices it because it's neat and orderly; also because he avoids having to participate in more masculine activities (like baseball!) by having the excuse of the social activity ballroom dancing.

-----Sewing-- Relates back to his doll collecting hobby.

virtues»
-----Kind-- Carlisle is a perfect gentleman. If something bothers you, Carlisle drops it. It doesn't matter what it is he's doing or talking about that bothers you, he will stop talking about it or doing it as long as he's around you. Does his stance on healthcare offend you? He will never bring it up again. This trait also leads to a very polite, well-spoken young man, who is quite pleased to hold open doors and pull out chairs for all of his acquaintances, not just the girls. He tries his best to help without making it seem like he thinks you're incompetent, thinking quite seriously about how to allow you to save face. Uncomfortable subjects are to be broached in whispers, privately, or not at all. Unfortunately, sometimes this goes too far, and he won't discuss something that really bothers him because he's worried he will offend.

-----Quiet-- He wants to stay out of the spotlight. There's absolutely no part of him that wants to be out in the open,

-----Studious-- He is capable of hard work to get what he wants.

-----Friendly-- Want to be friends?... yes? That's wonderful!

flaws»
-----Quiet-- and how. He doesn't talk when he's stressed. He doesn't talk when he's afraid. His thoughts are his own, and sometimes--a lot of the time--okay pretty much all the time--he'll tell you about his surface thoughts but not what he's really thinking. He might be considering tacos superficially, but he might truly be thinking about how he dropped his laptop in a puddle and now he's ******** for that huge presentation tomorrow. And it's really, really hard to tell when he's considering how bad he is gonna hate himself tomorrow, precisely because he spends so much time being pensive and mulling things over.

-----Pensive-- As long as he has time, he'll make a good decision. But what about when he doesn't have time? What about when he has to make a lot of decisions in a very short about of time? Carlisle tends to panic and make the absolute worst choice, the kind of choice that comes from his heart rather than his head, if he can manage to make a choice at all. This isn't saying if you've planned to go out to lunch at a certain restaurant and you change your mind, he'll freak, because he won't. If you hand him three college applications, the deadline's next week, and he can only apply to one, he will agonize over the decision until the day before the deadline where he'll pick the cheapest one or the one with the highest acceptance rate and send it in, only to remember that his transcript isn't with it and he's ******** anyway.

-----Resentful-- Carlisle has gone his entire life being told what to do, and he's done what he's been told, and he's done it with a smile. He plays piano because his parents want him to, studies ballroom dance because his parents want him to, and you know what? He doesn't see how his life is ever going to improve from answering orders to jump with 'how high?'. So while he'll never act on his resentment, he certainly feels it...

-----Defeatist-- He approaches most everything thinking he is going to fail. While not every plan you make will be met with his particular passive-aggressive way of pointing out that it's not a good idea (he'll tell a story about a plan that is similar but not quite the same and how horribly it failed), the ones he has time to think about especially get targeted by a lot of sighs. He can even get downright nasty sarcastic, with a "Oh yeah, like no one has ever tried that before" or a "I think I saw that on a Saturday morning cartoon show". Sure, he'll still do exactly what you say and not modify it, but when the plans fall through he knew they would, the whole time, you heard him say that he knew they were going to fail.

blanche»
In 1903, Blanche Beatrice Cantrell was five years old. For this auspicious birthday, she received her very first china doll; it was shaped to look like a lady, teenaged perhaps, with pale gray eyes and long dark hair, in a black and red dress. It wasn't the most current fashion, of course, but for a little girl like Blanche Beatrice, it was perfect. As she grew, her collection of dolls grew; the little girl doll became a little boy, and ten-year-old Blanche Beatrice authoritatively declared his name was Carlisle. But by the age of fifteen, in 1918, Blanche Beatrice cared not for dolls and Carlisle was forgotten with the other remnants of her childhood.

the maid's daughter»
The dolls passed to the daughter of a maid. The girl was ill, a sickness of the mind no one could quite diagnose. She quickly became attached to the collection, but especially to the doll named Carlisle--he became the center of her stories, and from her eighth birthday, to her incarceration at Danvers State Lunatic Asylum in Massachusetts, to her death at age 18 the two were scarcely, if ever, separated.

From there, the doll vanished. It was searched for among the girl's earthly possessions, but it was never found. The man looking for it assumed it had been buried with her, in an unmarked grave...

thetis»
...but, of course, in the ways of all ghost stories, that wasn't true.

The doll was rediscovered at some unknown point, falling into the hands of a young lady named Thetis Vasilyev. Thetis, an aspiring musician, was charmed by the doll; she called him her 'muse' and, strangely, named him Carlisle. Carlisle accompanied her on her trips across the nation, and for a time, her career flourished.

Then, strangely, she began to descend into insanity. Thetis became convinced that her bandmates were going to kill her, she began to exhibit traits of paranoid schizophrenia. One night, the whispers in her mind became too much, and she slaughtered the bassist. She was imprisoned, tried, convicted and put to death.

Again, the doll vanished. Though it was taken as evidence, after Thetis was buried, it disappeared.

elixabete»
Elixabete dul de Verdelet was the adopted child of the Grand Master of Ceremonies in Hell; once, long before coming into Verdelet's care, she was a demigoddess of air. Brought to Earth as a sacrifice, she kept away from the world at large. Though she occasionally left the manor where she lived--meeting others most every time--by and large she was confined with a small collection of items her adoptive father had given her.

Among them was the doll named Carlisle.

For a good long time, she grew up, growing vivacious and happy. The doll, she exclaimed, was her lucky talisman--and, in fact, it seemed to be. Lixxie turned her attention to painting, to writing, and excelled at all of it. She was called the Thetis Vasilyev of the art world; people remarked on her genius, on the similarity of the doll... And then people started to watch her, waiting for her to snap as Thetis had.

She never did. Instead, she found a man she adored; she married him, and soon enough, she was pregnant with her first and only child. Lixxie died of natural childbirth complications; the baby died with her.

Heartbroken, her husband sought for any way to preserve her or the child. But the gift of Lixxie's divine birthright, which had previously preserved her in situations beyond human comprehension, prevented the preservation of any of her genetic material; and the material she'd contributed to their child, too, made it unusable. Instead, he turned to the doll... the doll that had meant so much to his wife.
