~Welcome to The Wanderer's Book Thread~ -Purpose: To motivate us to read! (Especially me. sweatdrop ) -Achievement: Read more. Learn more. Know more. -Activity: A book will be read every month and discussed in this thread, for the whole month.
-We will begin reading on the first of every month.Agenda: November 2, 2011 *New book! *Also, starting up The Word of the Week. :3 **I will continue this Thread until the day I die. -During November, 2011, we will read All Quiet on The Western Front, a novel by Erich Maria Remarque.-Synopsis by Cliffsnotes.com: The record of several schoolmates who represent a generation destroyed by the dehumanization of World War I's trench warfare, All Quiet on the Western Front tells of their enlistment in the army at the urging of their teacher, Kantorek, whose wisdom they trusted. Paul Bäumer, a sensitive teenager, serves as central intelligence, the prototypical young infantryman whose youth is snatched away by the brutality of war.*Money's tight in this economy, so you're not required to buy the book. Just borrow it from your local library. :]

Discussion Questions:*We can also meet at my Gaian house. I will post the date and address when the time comes. :3Don't know where to start on your discussions? Here are a couple of questions thought by me and questions I found online:Questions by: Rocklin Unified School District1. Who is the “enemy” in this book? 2. Think about the concept of enemies in war: Whom do Paul and his friends regard as their enemies? 3. Why do Paul and men of his age group fear the end of the war as much as they fear the war itself? 4. In what ways does the novel critique the romantic rhetoric of war, honor, and patriotism? How might this critique extend to nineteenth-century ideas of nationalism? -In Towns: 33 Barton, 042927Direct link to my house.*You may post or PM your own questions, of course.

I like this idea a lot! Unfortunately, I'm already in a literature course at the university (among other crazy English courses) so I will have no time to read anything else D: I hope this thread will live so I can join when the course is over :3 And by then I will be so crazy analytical you'll all fall asleep.

If I didn't just start on a book recently, I'd hop on this. Currently reading "The Lurker at the Threshold" by H. P. Lovecraft.
Edit: That sounded really erotic. But it's not.
