I've been watching series 19 and I have to tell you all, Russel is a liar. There are quite a few discrepancies between the classic and modern Doctor that can't even be explained through "He's a new person from regeneration". The main one (and the only one I can remember right now) being that the Doctor doesn't use guns. This is supposedly a constant according to RTD as Captain Jack was even quoted as saying "And if I know the Doctor, he never carries any weapons!" ( Tonights the Night). Now I just saw the Doctor shoot a lock off a door, lift the barrel to his lips, blow off the steam and say "I never miss" (The Visitation). That doesn't sound like someone who doesn't use weapons. Here's some more proof. 2:48  Now you can go off and flame me all you want. I know you want to. I get flamed whenever I do research on this forum

I've only seen The Doctor used a gun proply once, in Earthshock when he shoot the cyberleader, From want i can remember in Resurrection on the Daleks he only threaten Davors with the gun but never shot at him. But then again i think The 5th Doctor broke alot of who rules. Like Gun arent meant to work inside the Tardis.

i don't think he's nitpicking about the show. just the people who keep saying that he never uses a gun. I'm not sure if it's obvious but I too am a nitpicker. And Angel of the Doctor is right. Jack doesn't know about the others.

He uses a gun in a couple of episodes before the long lengthy time went past during his 8th and then 9th Re-gens. The time war happened and people change. It was explained by RTD and easily guessed and understood that the time war came and he had to end it all, possibly killing everyone.
With that done, the Dr. turned away from as much violence as he could. So when it's said he doesn't use guns, he doesn't.
Like a person in real life, the character needs to grow, evolve and change.
So when RTD says he would never use a gun, He never would because he changed during the many years off-screen and the fact it's 2 new chars of RTD's making, from a writers point of view)
From a fans point of view- He had years to spend alone and change before we seen him again and before we seen him, he hit the time war and that could change anyone.
Re-gen has nothing to do with it, it's just life that changes you.
I like when someone really does not know this stuff and points it out like you have, but I hate that so many people know it full well and then discard those reasons just so they can nitpick.
So I don't think your nitpicking, And in the mist we all get lost.

And Angel of the Doctor is right. Jack doesn't know about the others. Good point, SaphiraStar. I don't think he's complaining, either. Maybe we should be a bit more specific. The Doctor in general has used a gun. 5 has. 8 & 9 have, probably. 10 has in EOT. (and whe I define "use a gun", I don't mean "use it to kill someone".) A certain Doctor hasn't.

the link that says 2:89 (or whatever number) is of 9 using a gun. We pretty much know that 8 used a weapon of some sort since he died in the Time War. I was ranting at the time of the first post, but I do believe in having writers know what they're talking about and RTD seemed to not know the Doctor all that well. Yes, people evolve, but they don't just turn 180 degree like that.

He uses his brain rather than his brawn, but he still occasionally uses his strength or a weapon when the occasion calls for it. yeah the 5th doctor kicked a**! but i havent really seen another doc pic up a gun since then

Are you insane? Do you not have any idea what your talking about? Are you not even a fan?
DR WHO did not turn 180 and change over night and he aimed that gun because he thought the world was about to be destroyed by a tin can and that's the worst thing in the universe...... Did you not watch End Of Time pt2??? AND later he refused to admit he would kill it by saying right after he aimed it. "I wouldn't" Even if he was lying he still showed that streak.
RTD said that he wanted to be cannon for fans because no one could understand why DR WHO regens and changes his personality completely. RTD explained that when he turned into #10 he was able to let go of some of his past by thinking he was a new man but he didn't completely change at all, he just felt nicer about himself. I mean come on... 180? he could have been growing up in mind for 100s of years before we seen him on tv again Hell, he could have been growing up for years while he was #7 so don't go saying 180 because it makes me think your not even a fan and you just came here to troll.
RTD not know DR WHO that well? He is a freaking fan and knows DR WHO. You can't just write a story that some guy is in space for 100s of years and then have him the exact same as he was when we knew him 100s of years ago, do YOU not know DR WHO?
[EDIT] And if you hate 180 then your going to hate #11 because I downloaded the first few episodes off a torrent website and he is totally 180'd.

Except that that doesn't explain why he remains virtually the same for the entirety of each regeneration, up until the moment he takes his last breath, then as soon as he pop back up, he's different. He often criticizes his previous self's fashion sense among other things, indicating a sudden shift in personality, rather than a gradual change.
I don't agree with the 180 comment, since if anyone is particularly skilled at turning 180 on a dime, it's the Doctor, but I don't agree with you, either.
It's true that the Doctor has never been a fan of carrying weapons, but he also hasn't (until recently) been completely opposed to using one when the situation called for it (sometimes even in anger, as shown). I don't mind that, but it does bother me when people think that Eleven should have the same gun policy as Ten, when they are different people, in essence.

After having a full library of every single DR WHO video I think I am qualified to say that he in fact does have a new personality while keeping traits of his old self. just like 7 did with 8 and 8 did with 9 and 9 did with 10. so even though he woke and #9 was a bit rough and then calmed down then did his new personality bit he also like every other DR WHO before him, kept some signs of the last.
After watching them all I have come to #11 and I like how he wonders about for a few moments in #10's suit, even though you can tell it's nothing like the regen one so you can tell that's way off plot wise. what did he do? change outfits mid way??? [ that's the problem with SM, he's so un-cannon. But yeah he is diff from #10 and not in the personality way either because it's more like he doesn't have those phycological ties that all other DR WHO's have after the regen. You get the feeling that if you ask him how he is doing after just saving the world and he will look at you and ask what you mean because he has no memory of it and only the memory of being #1. SM is such a #1 fan it's unbearable. DR WHO is a man who saves the world and lived many lives all full of tragedy an he is a man who changes faces and personality and although you can call him a new man and a different man he is still the same person. you can't call #11 the same person because SM took a shat on the whole cannon.
turning 170 degrees, maybe. but never 180. and if you disagree on the 170 thing, then you need to go back and watch at least 2 episodes of any DR WHO before the revival.

Well, that sealed it. I was giving you a chance despite the fact that your username, avatar and attitude were making me twitch. But you've proven yourself to be completely not worth my time. It's clear you barely scanned my post and you obviously don't even remember what you, yourself typed up in the previous post, not that is made all that much sense.
And your opinion about the way Eleven acts is really completely irrelevant, since no one else has seen any of this and I don't even know how you did since they haven't even aired the new season in the UK yet (except a pre-screening of episode 1 that wasn't even fully complete yet).

I wasn't talking to you so I didn't need to read your post even though I did and I never said anything against Matt Smith's acting so I think your just trying to pick fights. Don't try argue with me, i'm not gonna do it but seeing as you threw a fit I will reply to you.

Firstly, I think anyone who has an opinion isn't worthy of your time. I just did a quick read through the guild for all your post's just to see what kind of fan you was and it's clear I really do not wanna be worth your time unless I wanna be a fan boy of #11 and SM.

Thirdly, I am a typical fan these days and I am active in a large number of fan forums around the net and a lot of fans and people in the know have downloaded the first 2 tv shows off torrent sites. the tv show was set to be shown feb 2010 then held off for a march date and then held off for a may date, it's very well known that over half of series 1 is complete now.. How do you think your getting previews of the show? you think it's from the future or something? "(except a pre-screening of episode 1 that wasn't even fully complete yet)." Iunno how you got that. But I gotta be real with you for a sec, i seen your posts and a lot of them had false info based on your opinion and iunno if your getting this info from someone else or your just saying it so you can be right and everyone else be wrong.
