AIM log between Kitsune Mistress Nyoko and Kimaria
Two small, almond-shaped eyes peered out across the sun-swept land, his forepaws curled neatly to his chest, his tail looped loosely about him. As with most Ela'wadiyi, the child was small and since he had been part of a moderately big litter - six in all - he was smaller still. Somewhere behind him, hidden from view, he could hear the playful cries of his siblings as they chased leaves and twigs and bugs.
It wasn't that he didn't want to play with them. He just...he just...well, he quite liked peace and quiet and you didn't get peace when you had five rowdy siblings, not including his older sisters and brothers from litters born before him.
He was a serious little chap, true. He was grumpy, certainly. But he adored his family more than anything. He just...wasn't very good at showing it sometimes.

To say today had been boring for young Usdi-Wehali was a vast understatement. His younger sister had forbid him from tagging along with her today, which meant he wasn't able to hang with the absolutely charming young Sunny... Which was reason enough for his day to be, not only boring, but pout-worthy. His ears flicked and he tossed his growing mane out of his eyes. Just what was he going to do today? His siblings were great, but he'd been playing with them his entire (rather short) life! It was time to meet new people, he decided, as he got to his paws and began to wander around the den area... Only to catch site of Poa. He didn't look familiar.... Was he even from Bird Clan? Usdi shook his head and trotted over. He could always ask! "Hello there!"

His little body stiffened with surprise at the sudden voice. Oh no, he'd been found! And any minute now he'd be pounced on...bowled off the rock...onto the grass...and he'd have to struggle free, bap the other across the snout and make a mad dash for it!!
But hang on a moment...
The voice was coming from the opposite direction, wasn't it? And his family was behind him? So...
He stood, then, trying to make himself appear taller - a waste of time really - just as he spotted the other male. This one was brown-pelted, much like himself, and yet not. He smelt different and as far as he was aware no one else in the clan had had any cubs. So then who was this? If he wasn't Shadow then...was he from one of the others? Perhaps the clan where his nieces and nephews lived?
"Who're you?" He replied, wrinkling his tiny snout in response. "You're not Shadow."

"I'm Usdi-Wehali Taipa! I'm from Bird Clan," Usdi said matter-of-factly, grinning down at the younger cub. Really, the expression that had been on his face only moments ago was hilarious. And in a way, the young juvenile was happy to be just a little bit bigger than the other. Out of his siblings, he was easily the smallest of the boys, even with the rogue blood that coursed through his veins. Most of the time, he didn't mind it... But it was nice to know there were others out there that were just as small, if not smaller than him.

Bird Clan? Oh, Bird Clan! So he was from the same Clan as his relatives! But, this one didn't smell too familiar, which probably meant he wasn't one of them. A shame, he would have quite liked to have been the first of his siblings to meet the extended family.
"That's a long name." Poa replied, not sure he'd ever remember all of that. He was thus thankful that his first name bore only three letters. "But you're from Bird Clan so I guess...I guess you're okay. We have family there. One of my brothers moved to the Clan. I haven't met him yet..." Another pause. "But...he had cubs there. Maybe you know them?"
He blinked his bright pink eyes. "I'm Poa Subiani."

"You can just call me Usdi if all that is too long to remember," Usdi said lightly, laughing softly at the dawning realization on Poa's face. "I might know them... But if I don't, I'm sure one of my siblings has met them. I have lots of brothers and sisters..." And it was true. He was from a fairly large litter... "Anyways, it's nice to meet you, Poa!"

He nodded slowly, his expression setting into a thoughtful frown that wrinkled his brow and muzzle. "Fine. That'll do."
And after a momentary pause, he decided to sit, the action slow and somewhat wary. Then, when his back-end met with the ground he looped his tail around his legs and set his bright eyes back to the other male.
"Well if you do meet them, tell them about me, okay?" He seemed to be more interested in discussing about his family rather than anything else and had to admit he was disappointed that this boy hadn't met any of them personally. "Aren't your parents going to worry about you, being here all by yourself?"

"I'll make sure to tell them," Usdi promised, his ears flicking back towards the direction of the den just to double check that no one was missing him. Once he was certain that, yes, no one had missed his absence yet, he shrugged. "If my parents get worried, they'll yell for me. And it's not like I'm going outside of the lands, y'know?"

Poa shrugged. "I guess."
He wasn't sure exactly what danger there was out in the world, anyway. Weren't lions on top of the food chain? What could possibly harm them, except another lion, and they were in a pride of lions, none of which would harm another member.
It all seemed a little silly to him.
"I'll be glad when I'm bigger and my parents stop worrying about me. There's nothing out there anyways. Nothing but other Clan members. Parents are silly." He blinked. "I mean...maybe they should worry about my other siblings. But not me. I'm smart. I can take care of myself. I don't need anyone to look out for me."

"Well, you never know. I've heard stories about big, scary lions outside the pride who aren't afraid to hurt cubs like me and you," Usdi said lightly, his ears flicking nervously. The Rogue Lands sounded scary from some of the stories he'd heard... It made him glad he lived here, where it was safe. "Parents have a reason to worry about us, I guess. But sometimes they worry too much!"

Poa shrugged again, perhaps a habit of his? "I don't know. As far as I know, rogues stay in rogue lands anyway. We shouldn't ever meet one so long as we stay here."
His tail twitched. "I'm going to show my family that I can take care of myself. That I don't need anyone. Then, when I'm an adult, I'm going to prove myself to them. Don't know how, yet. But I will. Then I'll become a guard for Shadow Clan and protect those who aren't as brave as what I am."
He sniffed. "Do you have a plan like that?"

"Not really... I mean, I want to prove myself to my family in a different way. I want to be as good a brother as I can, and I want to have a great story on my fur when I'm big!" Usdi said, kneading the ground eagerly at the idea. That was all he wanted. To have a good story he could tell to his own cubs when he was big... "I don't know if it's much of a plan, but it's what I want to do!"

"Oh." Poa blinked. He supposed being a good brother was okay. "But...aren't you a good brother already? Unless...you like, I don't know, bully the rest of your brothers and sisters or something."
He tilted his head, not seeming to realise that his words might be hurtful. He was just genuinely curious.
But he did agree with the cub on the story part. He wanted his tattoos to reflect his acts of strength. A lone warrior. A fierce lion who could be looked up at with respect. Yes, that was what he wanted. His Clan's respect. "All I know is that I'm going to achieve my goals without anyone's help. Struggle to get to the top alone but be better off for it." He nodded sharply.

"Well, I'm as good a brother as I can be. But I always want to do better!" Usdi said solemnly, nodding his head and sitting down in from of Poa. After a long moment, he tilted his head curiously and narrowed his eyes. "Why do you want to do it all alone? I mean sure, you might be stronger because of that... But wouldn't it get lonely all the way at the top?"

Poa's somewhat serious eyes met with the older boy's and for a moment he seemed to contemplate deeply on what the other said. Would he get lonely? No. He wouldn't have time to get lonely. Not with trying to better himself.
He shook his head and the mane fell down across his eyes. "Nope. Won't have time to get lonely. Besides, I do always have my family if I need a break. See, the thing is, my sister was trying to explain the rules of the pride to me. Girls, they stay in the clan they're born in, no matter what. But boys, if we want to be with a girl from another clan, we have to leave. Leave our clan to be in theirs." He shook his head again. "That would be bad for me. Very bad. But, I don't need to worry about that, because girls are ick. I wouldn't leave home for a girl." He snorted.
