~Location~ On the edge of Karakura Town, in the Yumisawa district (see "Karakura Town" thread for map), a quiet road- lined with houses on one side, and open field on the other- leads up with Yumisawa Children's Park, where the shouts of youngsters can be heard. The scene would be peaceful, if not for the obvious destruction caused by some rampaging hollow. A huge crater lies on the far side of the grassland, and several trees bordering the field had been knocked down. The locals had been told that a plane had crashed, but Soul Society knew better. ~Mission Information~ (Some basic information to start us off). You have arrived in Karakura Town with your Vice-Captain (me~) and comrades. Our group has been sent to locate and dispatch the hollow Shockster. This exercise is supposed to give new members a chance to display their skills, and older members something to do. Soul Society has given us this information: Quote: Name: Shockster Appearance: An average shaped hollow with a curvature in his spine that has him leaning downwards. His major distinctive feature are his massive feet that are approximately 3 feet in length and are his primary source of power. Abilities: By stomping his feet, Shockster can send shockwaves across the ground within his vicinity that render it rather hard to- not only remain concentrated in order to keep balance, but hard to perform any form of attack on him. If he chooses to complete a full jump and land on both feet it will knock anyone off their feet, allowing him openings to attack. With such feet he is also rather fast in movement and can leap high. Acidic Touch: When a Hollow grabs a person with their hands, the spot where the person was grabbed is shown to get burned as if acid were poured onto it. These wounds seem to allow the Hollow's reiatsu to seep into the person, causing great pain to the victim.

Emerging from the Senkaimon, Vice-Captain Hinata stepped lightly onto the pavement at the head of her squad. It was a damp day- a slight drizzle and cloud cover would be a minor impairment to vision, but otherwise perfect for assessing hollow-hunting skills. This would be a great opportunity to see how well the members of her squad, old and new alike, worked with each other. She would input into the locating and fighting as she wished, but otherwise allow everyone a chance to prove themselves. That's why she had taken the request in the first place.
Extending her senses casually, the female shinigami noticed that she couldn't feel any strong reiatsu. Either the hollow was weak (which was unlikely, since it had already escaped Sereitei's clutches for a number of years), or it was hiding its reiatsu. Whether she was able to sense it or not- well, she wasn't really trying too hard. She decided not to probe further, to allow her fellow shinigami their opinion first.
"Right. One hollow, here we come, but first we'll have to locate it. It should be somewhere in the vicinity if they've got the co-ordinates right, but it may be a tricky little blighter. Sense any reiatsu, anyone?" Hinata asked calmly while the rest of her squad emerged behind her.

Sayuri walked out of the Senkaimon and onto the cool pavement. This was her first time in the real world and she was ready to hunt the hollow called "Shockster". Sayuri lowered her head and concentrated on finding the hollow's reiatsu, but after a few minutes gave up. "I'm sorry, Vice-Captain, but i can't pick up any trace of the hollow's reiatsu..."After lifting her head up again Sayuri looked around at her surroundings. The drizzling was plesant to her, but something felt wrong. Sayuri shifted her feet uncomfortably, but said nothing.

Telemachus followed the two and stalked off a ways to their right. His hood was pulled up to shadow his feline features as crouched by the crater, sniffing for any remnant of the Hollow's scent. After a few seconds, and Sayuri's comment, the Leopard-man straightened and strode over to his young comrade.
"Sensing Reiatsu is not the only way to track a Hollow, Sayuri, Fuku-Taicho. I've caught his scent, but it's fading fast. And It smells like Athletes Foot combined with dirty socks. This is not going to be a fun mission if the Hollow's scent is stronger than it is at the moment." His feline nose wrinkled in distaste and disgust as he crouched once again next to Hinata, resting his sculpted and furred arms on his knees. He threw back his hood and swiveled his ears in their full range of motion, as though he were listening for distant sounds. Suddenly, he reached up and scratched under his chin and resumed speaking.
"The Hollow, this Shockster, headed South by South-west, towards the Shopping District, if I'm correct about the bearing of his scent. Shall we begin the Hunt, Fuku-Taicho Kuzuki?" His enthusiasm in this mission was evident, as well as the fact that this was his first true mission to the World of the Living.

Asuko timidly followed behind the rest of the group. Despite his nervousness, he was extremely excited for this mission, because it was his very first field mission with his own squad. He finally had companions to fight with, and there were no scary knights, and no invisible obelisks around. Just a normal mission, to hunt down a hollow. Nice, and normal. He just knew this would be good experience for him, and maybe after this is done, he'll have learned a bit more.
...That is, if he survived. Asuko knew the risks involved when fighting the hollow. The more powerful ones have been known to kill shinigami, and as an Unseated, he was extremely likely to be killed. When this crossed his mind again, he let out a visible shiver, and then realized he had been staring into space again. He quickly looked around to see who was with him, and tried to pay attention to what everyone was saying. Getting distracted, lost in thought, would not be good for him, not on his first mission, and not ever. Not having anything worth to say, he kept silent, and simply waited for their next move.

Orsumil walked out the Seikamon, heard before he could be seen, each step with a clinking sound, every movement except for the tiniest, the type which Orsumil did not make.
He stood with Asuko, purposely, to make sure he had company and that shiver had tipped Orsumil off, he was either cold or there was something worrying him, these kinds of people were the best to be with. They seemed to always have a story to tell or something to say and when on a mission, on the off chance that they never found the Hollow then it would be preferable to have an ally whose company you enjoyed. Asuko seemed like the prime candidate.
"Good morning" Orsumil directed the comment to the entire group, but in a way only to Asuko as that was who he had his eyes fixated on, it was just the loudness of his words that implied he was actually saying it to everyone.
Weird bunch that they were, some crazy little girl giving Orsumil orders, a girl in a silly purple robe and a leopard man. They really didn't go well together in Orsumil's opinion, it was kind of strange mix. Didn't really go at all. His eyes gave away his disapproval for a brief moment before quickly going back to how they usually looked.
"We already got a lead hey?" Orsumil said, not waiting for everyone else to pay attention to his earlier good morning, instead just deciding to get right on with this. Didn't matter that he was among a bunch of weirdos, he liked weirdos and this seemed like it could be a fun day out with weirdos.

(Sorry...)
Alder stepped from the Senkai Gate with relative ease. "I don't feel anything...." He mused on the thought; most of the members of Squad Thirteen fighting a single Hollow. "I take it that we'll have to do some looking...."
On that note, Alder heard Telemachus talk about the scent of the Hollow. "Once we get into a certain range, we should be able to feel his reiatsu, so you won't have to smell for long after we get into range." Alder didn't even draw his katana; he stood, just waiting for Hinata to tell them what to do next.

(( Since I want to progress this, anyone who arrives after this post can just pretend you've been there all along wink ))
Nodding with approval at Sayuri's effort, Hinata then listened attentively to Telemachus' explanation that he could track the hollow using his fine senses. She was glad he had found a way to use his abilities in favour of the whole group, and hoped the rest of them would contribute ideas later too. She neither challenged Telemachus nor attempted to confirm his words; for she wanted everyone to learn when to place trust in someone's ideas.
"Seems like you're the expert here, Telemachus-san. South-South-West it is then. Care to lead the way?" the Vice-Captain offered, stepping aside for the leopard-man. As they proceeded, she walked only a few steps behind him- still in range to help if a surprise attack was launched.

Instead of replying, Telemachus crept forward relatively fast for being in a crouch. Every few meters, he'd stop and sniff the air, searching for any deviaton in their prey's course. So far, the Hollow seemed to have just headed toward the Shopping District.
The feline Shinigami stopped when the wind blew straight into his face, carrying the fetid stench of the big-footed Hollow. Fighting back the urge to release his last meal, Telemchus stood and placed a hand over his nose. "It's close, but if this wind keeps blwing this way, I'm afraid I might lose my stomach. Does anybody have any cloth? Or some kind of scarf so I may block the scent from my nostrils?" He was obviously perturbed by the, to him, noxious scent of Shockster and beneath his his fur, he was visibly pale.

Sayuri carefully looked around as everyone came out from the Seikamon. As this was her first mission Sayuri was quite nervious and didn't know how to conduct herself. After standing up straighter and lifting up her head from its usuall position of straight down, she listened intently as Telemachus gained a lead. "Thank goodness Tele-sama has such good senses..." Sayuri thought happily. "I'm glad that now we won't have to search the whole district for this hollow." Sayuri ran after the group as Telemachus followed his nose to the hollow when he stopped abruptly. The wind was strong and blew the hollow's grotesque scent in Telemachus's nose. The scent was so disgusting that Telemachus told everyone that he thought he was going to be sick. Luckily, Sayuri was wearing a hair pin that had a thick ribbon attached. The ribbon was thick enough and long enough to be used to block smells and best of all it was replaceable so Sayuri wouldn't have any regrets. Here you go, Tele-sama.she said as she untied the ribbon and held it out for him."This should help with the smell..."

Last to step out of the Senkaimon, Hibiki hung to the back. Hinata was leading this mission, so despite his seat, he was mostly along as a regular squad member. As the others tried to sense the Hollow they were sent to eradicate, he glanced around to take in the surroundings, memorizing the cross streets, buildings and surrounding structures. His cloak blew about him with the strength of the wind. He considered putting up his hood since he intended to take up the back support anyways and didn't need talk much to anyone besides calling out if there was an attack to the rear. He decided against it, deciding it would just look dumb to do so to be anti-social.
Watching with interest as the feline shinigami sought out the Hollow's scent, the redheaded shinigami idly rested on his sword's hilt. So they already had someone to lead then. Speaking up as Sayuri was handing her ribbon to Telemachu, Hibiki asked Hinata, "Hinata-fukutai, would it be alright if I take up the rear of the party?"

He accepted the ribbon and bowed his head to Sayuri before putting it across his snout and tying it behind his head. "Thank you, Sayuri. I can still smell the Prey. It is somewhat dulled, but I can still track it." Telemachus twisted his head to one side until a loud, but muffled, crack emanated from his neck. Now that the most unsavory scent from the Hollow had been blocked by the remnant smell of whatever perfume Sayuri had been wearing in her hair, he let a small shiver run down his spine as he released a portion of his more...animalistic side.
Turning back to the scent trail, the leopard-man crouched low again, ready to resume hunting their objective. "We're getting closer." Was all he said as he crept forward again. In anticipation, his retractable claws extended with slight, audible clicks from the ends of his fingers and toes. A low, rumbling purr throbbed in his throat.

Hearing her name, Hinata turned and saw Hibiki had also arrived from the Senkaimon.
"I think that would be a sensible idea, Hibiki-san," she said in reply to his suggestion, "I'm counting on you to take any attacks from behind!" With a fleeting smile, she turned back to observe Telemachus, who had been lent a ribbon by Sayuri to mask the stench of the hollow.
Just as they neared a corner, a tiny trace of irregular reiatsu perturbed her fine senses. Casting a glance around, she saw no signs that anyone else had registered this as a potential danger, but decided to keep an eye on the trace of reiatsu anyway. After seven years on Earth dealing with these petty troubles, she had learnt not to let any disturbance slip- the result could be fatal.
"Stop." As the group halted, Hinata stepped up next to Telemachus. "Close... What do you think? I think it's getting enraged... It's probably because of us." By now, she was sure many others in the group could probably detect the faintest traces of reiatsu as well; none of them seemed bad at sensing reiatsu. However, she remembered that this was some shinigami's first time tracking a hollow properly on Earth. In addition, she doubted anyone had been stranded on Earth for seven years' worth of experience like her. "It's letting its defence slip. A common mistake." She had definitely dealt with worse, but remembered that the point of this exercise was to work strategically in a group.

Looking over at her, he nodded then perked his ears up as he heard a distant roar. Telemachus had also picked up the faint traces of reiatsu and was sure Hinata had as well. "I agree. This Prey is forgoing his chance to escape or defend himself. He has no dubt sensed our approach as his scent is growing stronger on the wind." Raking a claw through the dirt at his feet, the feline drew his blade and stabbed it into the middle of the line he just drew in the ground. His hand stayed on the hilt as he motioned for silence wth his free hand. He could feel slight trembles and quakes reverberate up through the sword into the hilt and his hand.
"I do believe he is coming our way, if these tremors are anything to go b. I suggest that we be ready." The leopard man pulled his zanpakuto from the dirt and held it parallel to his forearm and remained crouched. His pulse quickened in anticipation of the impending fight.
