He was returning towards his rooms, his mind on Taj, Hatim, and all the crazy events of the day. He entered the hallway of doors, idly examing each as he went by. Each was unique, each was reflective somehow of the dominant personality within. That reminded him of his sister and her invitation to come see her that morning. Rueful at having forgotten amongst everything else, he began looking for the door she described.

He found it, marking easily the field of forget-me-nots. He stood a moment, staring thoughtfully at the image of the crow carrying a candle. He would definitely have to ask her what it meant. And who was the vulture? He couldn't recall if she'd told him if thse were her rooms or someone else's. Taking a breath, he knocked firmly on the door. He wasn't exactly expected, but perhaps whoever answered the door would understand why he was there? He could only hope.

Was in the livingroom when she heard the knock at the door. Her mind was at work, plotting and planning. On the paper there were a series of zeros and ones. She had taken a rare moment of free time to work on the programme she had started for Gianfar. The library catalogue. As she worked it had made her think. Perhaps she could make one for the school. If they could get a computer assembled of course. It would not be an easy task. Finishing the section of code she was working on she tucked her pencil into the bun she had twisted her hair into and stood.

She was a little surprised to see her brother when she pulled the door open, though not completely.
"Arctang." She smiled, thinking of his appearance the day before and her panic. She had done a lot of thinking that night, thinking and talking. "Come in, please."

He entered hesitantly, his wings twitching slightly with a soft whisper of feather against feather. He eased to the side so that he didn't intrude too far into this unknown domicile, but gave her room to close the door behind him. Now that he was here, he found himself uncertain about having come. He figeted slightly, twisting his narrow, feminine hands together. He might have been able to alter the anatomy to become male, but it was currently beyond his power to alter it any further. Many of the female features, such as a more delicate face, slender fingers, more slight figure, all remained.

He turned to gaze at his twin. Currently they didn't really resemble each other much, he reflected. Soon though, he hoped. Soon they would be more clearly the twins they'd come into the world as. He cleared his throat and hazarded a smile. "Thank you for asking me to come, sister." He turned his eyes to the room. "Are these your rooms, then?" He hoped he didn't sound as stiff as he felt. He had no idea why he felt so very awkward of a sudden, but these mood swings seemed more and more common. It irritated him on one level, as Numbers were supposed to be cold and logical, not mercurial and emotional. But another part of him insisted this simply was how it was, and that perhaps this was Rairne's legacy. Such thoughts quieted any striving against it he might have otherwise had. Better to hold dearly to what was left of his host than diminish their importance.

The goddess stepped back so that he could enter and closed the door slowly so that it made no sound.
"Would you like to come in?" She asked, gesturing for him to follow her through to the living room, an awkward smile on her lips. How like strangers they were, yet they shared a life.

"No, these are not my rooms. They are the rooms of Ankou, the spirit guide and brother of Nergal." She frowned a little. "Did you meet him before? Nergal?" It was hard to remember the time before everything had gone wrong, it was as though centuries had passed.

Arc followed her as indicated, suddenly wishing he'd brought her something. Some token of love to honor the bond they shared. He released his breath in a silent sigh. These social graces were not his strong point, obviously. Ah well, surely out of all the beings that existed in all the worlds, she would understand him best? His bit his lip at the thought, his expression unintentionaly open, revealing his trepidation. There still seemed to be something unbending between them, and it troubled him. Had things changed that much while he'd been inprisoned?

"Ah, perhaps in the previous time," he answered her question, his brow clearing of its subtle frown. "But since our rebirth, no." He paused then, taking in the odd nuances to what she'd said. Firstly, that she was living in the rooms of another... the brotherly side of him would have arched a brow and wanted to know her relationship with this Ankou. His logical side, however, didn't even blink at the information, since he himself was sharing rooms with someone, and there certainly was no real significance in that fact other than the kindness of a friend. But besides that tangled bit of thought, there also was ascknowledgement that there was equal if different emphasis on Nergal. In the back of his mind he was puzzled, intrigued, and completely baffled. She was his sister. How else could things be?

"Are you happy?" he asked impulsively. "How have you been since... well, since..," and found it hard to finish that sentence. Since the Grigori had broken the world? Since he himself had disappeared? He gave a great sigh and found a place so sit, collapsing bonelessly in an adolescent and unconcious way. "Since evertying went wrong, I suppose," he concluded belatedly, giving her an apologetic look.

"Sit, please." Cosine smiled and gestured to the sofa in the comfortable living area. She herself perched on the edge of the sofa and kept her eyes on him as he moved through the apartment.
"It has been difficult. I was scared I suppose, at first but I have made some good friends. Lisana, goddess of laughter has helped me greatly. As of course has Echo and Nergal. They're like family to me now." She shrugged a slender shoulder. "Ankou too of course the two of us are birds of a feather." She looked dow at her hands for a moment. "I did try to seek you out, but things became ... confusing."

His expression became pained as she described perfect strangers to him as family to her. He released a breath in a silent sigh, averting his eyes. He hadn't been a very good brother at all, had he? But as her next words seemed to echo his thoughts, he looked quickly back at her. She wasn't blaming herself, was she?! He surged to his feet and knelt before her, clasping his hands around her own.

"The world was dying, and we were seperated," he spoke low and soft, his eyes earnestly seeking hers. "I was angry and feeling helpless. I can only imagine what you were feeling then, because I'd closed myself off to everyone, even you." He swallowed a lump in his throat and firmed his jaw. "But that is on my shoulders, not yours. I have paid the price for my foolishness, and I can only hope that no further to be paid for it." He squeezed her hands gently. "I never doubted you looked for me."

He released her hands then and folded his legs more comfortably, so that he sat on the floor before her, smiling up at her. "Will you tell me about these people who have looked after you? I'd like to know more about them." And by listening to her tell him about them, he'd learn more about her too, he realized. As beneficial as it was to know who his twin called family, it was of greater value to listen, watch, and absorb being here in her presence again. A quaver of the loneliness in the cube shivered through him, and he siezed one of her hands in both his own, still gazing up at her as if to drink her in. It was good to try and make things right with her, even if he couldn't with Rairne.

His sudden movement startled her a little. She was used to calmer company, her eyes followed as he took her hands and knelt before her. She hadn't meant to cause him any distress.
"I managed. it was hard for everyone." She shrugged, those days, though they would never be forgotten felt distant now.
"Um, There is music. Echo. She's like a mother and sister in one to me. She is kind and even tempered. Her partner is Underworld. I do not know him as well but well enough. It is he who found my host, she saw him as a father figure I suppose. I think I do too. He commands respect and gives good advice. They have three children, I have taught two of them how to count. Lachrymose their daughter is my favourite. I taught her to rhyme." She smiled fondly at the thought of her adopted niece. "Then there is Ankou. I love him." She smirked a little, it felt odd telling her brother that. She felt embarrassed to mention something so intimate and personal to her. "We share a life when he is here. He wanders frequently to aid his brother and gather souls. He is inclined to crows too. Which we joke about."

It was good for her to have such a suppor tsystem, but it made him feel distinctly seperate, apart. Her self-conciuos smile as she told him of her relationship with Ankou spoke to how lacking their own relationship was currently. He endeavored to mask his once more swiftly shifting emotions by tipping his head and inquring, "What domain is Ankou, then?" A part of him was amused that she was so caught up talking about him that she'd forgotten to mention this detail.

He assumed by the way she said it that Ankou was Nergal's brother. "Ah, then they truly are your family, if you've paired with Ankou," he added, genunine pleasure in his voice. It might not be something that included him, but it was indeed good for his twin. He wasn't alone either, when it came to it. He'd found a brother in Taj surprisingly quickly.

"It seems that we are drawing together as our own kind," he commented. "Mystery has been kind, and though I haven't long been back, he has already proven himself to be as solid as a brother." Together, but with vastly different lives, he and his twin. He bit his lip and twined his fingers with hers, dropping his other hand. "We are still part of each other, are we not?" he asked softly, looking up at her and opening himself to her, perhaps for the first time in a long while. It wasn't a concious thing, either the shutting out nor the opening up. It merely was.

Cosine listened to him and looked down at their fingers as he entwined hers with his. in her mind it was too intimate a gesture for a brother. Her eyes moved to his face.
"He is the Spirit Guide." She smirked. "I seem to have aligned myself with the world of the dead." Slowly she eased her hand from his and moved it to her lap.
"I do not know, truthfully brother." she paused a moment, trying to think how to word how she felt. "I mean that ... we are not 'ourselves' we are more human than god at this point. We are reborn to change, to forge a new path. I feel close to you, but also like a stranger."

He knew it was truth, but it stung. He withdrew his hand, a wash of cold making his skin prickle. She was right, despite being twins, they were still very clearly strangers. He shifted uncomfortably, torn between a desire to reforge their close bond and her desire to be left as she was. He started to tell himself mournfully that she didn't want him anymore, but he steeled his will against the chaotic emotional turmoil. That wasn't true, couldn't be true! She'd asked him to come here, hadn't she?

He swallowed hard and spoke without the deep gazing into her eyes that he'd done before. Instead he found some random, distant point to focus on. "So you think we should start over?" he asked quietly. "Like strangers getting to know one another?" It hurt, no denying it. They weren't merely siblings, they were twins! But it seemed that was not enough. Not anymore, at any rate. Perhaps she was right on that front too. He had a glimmer of memory... hadn't she always been right before? Hadn't that frustrated him just as much, if not more, back then?

Though vague, the remembered frustration at his sister's constant correctness made him suddenly laugh. "Everything is different, but nothing has changed!" he chuckled. "You are still chiding me for being too brash, and I am still chafing at your being right!" He shook his head and ran his fingers roughly through his hair. "Alright then, we take it as it comes." He looked up at her, various emotions warring to show or not show on his face. Wistfulness, hurt, amusement, hope, worry, and just a hint of impishness. It seemed he couldn't decide if he was the older brother looking after his sister, or the younger brother plaguing her with misbehavior. Over it all, though, was a clear desire to please her. "We'll do it your way," he concluded softly.

She smirked a little, unsure how to take his erratic emotions. She was used to being around far more even keeled gods, though she could not blame her brother, rebirth in a body that was not your own was a tricky thing.

"Start over, yes, perhaps. We have been reborn physically, and so our relationships must be reborn also. I find it interesting you seem to know more of me than I know myself. I remember little. Or, maybe I don't care to remember." She smirked again and shrugged. "I believe the past is past."

He shook his head. "I only remember vague flashes of feeling, really, and that of your old self." He paused significantly for emphasis. "As you said, we are changed, so I know you not at all anymore." Which was blindingly obvious at the moment. He sighed and rubbed slightly damp palms on his pants. A silence followed his words, which seemed to stretch on forever to him. He stifled the urge to fidget, but was growing increasingly restless. Or was it just that he was tired? Either way, perhaps it was time to make his exit.

He rose to his feet and bowed formally to his sister, wishing... wishing he knew how to act around her. She seemed so very aloof, cool, distant, serene. So much his opposite, it seemed. Was formal the right way to go? Clearly close and familiar wasn't right, as it made her uncomfortable. Casual and unattatched? He wasn't sure he could pull any of it off. It all felt so... so stilted. He strove to mask his face as he rose from the bow, so that she might not see his confusion.

"Forgive me, but I think I had best retire to Taj's hospitality before I... well, I don't know what," he finished lamely. He passed a hand across his eyes. "But I believe he said dinner was to be soon, and I would not wish to keep him waiting." There. That seemed the most polite and likely senario. True too. "Thank you for asking me to come," he said softer, though he kept his eyes from boring into hers with the sudden and ever-unpredictable surge of love for her. Absolutely senseless, this emotional nonsense, at least in the face of her mellow lifestyle. Flustered, he turned for the door.

Cosine stood after him and followed him to the door.
"Give my regards to Mystery." She smiled, pulling the door open and giving him a smile.
"Maybe we can talk again when you have settled."
