It was only a matter of time
Before they noticed one another. Matthew is always being ignored by the other nations. At G8 meetings, he’s skipped over or even mistaken for his idiot brother, Alfred. He eventually just faded into the background and spent the majority of the meetings sitting in his chair, holding his polar bear Kumajirou close to him as he waited for his turn to speak. That time rarely came and, if it did, no one would pay attention. Sometime he wondered why he even bothered coming to these meetings.
One day, during a lunch break, Matthew is, once more, mistaken for his brother Alfred. Irritated, he storms off out of the room and heads down the hall - only to run into someone. He quickly apologizes though and starts moving around him, figuring the man isn’t going to say anything to him anyway.
“Hey, you’re Canada right?”
With that simple question, a friendship began to strike. As it turned out, the man was named Gilbert - AKA the previous nation of Prussia. Why he hadn’t faded was a mystery to Matthew but he never asked. The two of them were virtually invisible to the other nations (except their brothers).
Needless to say, they had a bit in common. They even liked maple syrup and pancakes! It was difficult not to be friends. Though, as time went on, that friendship began to mold and turn into something else.
Matthew is confused about his feelings towards Gilbert. Aside from Cuba, he never had a friend before. Not a real friend, someone who knew him and didn’t confuse him with anyone else (something Cuba did unfortunately). He doesn’t want to loose Gilbert’s friendship but, what if Gilbert was going through the same thing?
If it’s true, than what will they do about their families? Matthew doesn’t know what his brother Alfred will think, or Francis or Arthur… what if they reject it?
Oh maple.... this is going to be like World War III…

Rules 1) Literacy please. No chat-speak. No one-liners. Three sentences at the least. 2) This is rated PG-13. Any ‘adult’ scenes are skipped. 3) Follow all Gaia and Guild TOS. 4) Don’t join and quit. I want someone who is somewhat committed and won’t totally kill the story. 5) I need someone to play seme Prussia/Gilbert. I would like it if you know his character and know the series. 6) The plot line can be changed if you can of something better/interesting. I like talking about stories and plots =) 7) PM me with ‘Awesomeness That is Me’. Send a sample of your writing as well. Notes This is a Hetalia: Axis Powers RP. I sometimes use their human names (meaning ‘Matthew is Canada and Gilbert is Prussia’). You can do it too if you choose =) We can have other characters if you wish. Hell, we can even do side pairings if you want. Just tell me, ‘kay? ^^ It all depends on the pairing. I don't bite so don't hesitate to send me a PM or anything. I like talking to the people I RP with.

╔XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╗ Matthew Williams ╚XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╝ ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡This World Meeting began just as all the previous ones had.
Roll was called. Heads were counted. England and France bickered for about ten minutes, though it would have been just five if America hadn’t jumped in. It was Germany who had to settle them down. It was usually Germany who settled everyone down. His deep voice was enough to shake the entire building.
Not literally speaking, of course. That would be strange.
Once the formalities were out of the way, they all got right into business.
Well, sort of.
Germany was the host chairman for this meeting, though he made the mistake for opening the floor for anyone to make a suggestion. Of course, America jumped on that one, spilling out some ridicules plan to stop global warming. This, in turn, brought England in who quickly objected it (the idea really was stupid). Those two began arguing for a while and, pretty soon, the whole meeting was in an uproar.
Except for Greece who, as usual, slept through most of these meetings.
Well, there was Canada too but he never slept. He paid close attention to the topics flying around the room but he never got his chance to voice his opinion. As far as everyone else was concerned, he was practically invisible. No one seemed to be able to remember his name. Sometimes America did… and France but they were always hesitate. If he wasn’t being forgotten, he was being mistaken for his idiotic brother, America! They shared a similar looking face but they were different! Alfred’s (America) hair was obviously straighter than his and, not to mention, he was so much more louder than him! Matthew (Canada) was soft spoken, quite the opposite of his loud, idiotic older brother. Plus, there was their hair, their attitudes, their morals...
Yet! People still managed to confuse them!
It was frustrating though Matthew decided that, sometimes, it was best if all the spot light was on Alfred. At least then none of the other countries could pick on him. Though, that would mean they would have to see him. They would HAVE to pay attention to him. He wouldn't be borderline invisible.
Matthew exhaled a sigh, letting out a sigh as he held his pet polar bear Kumajirou close to him. The bear was probably asleep by now. He usually dozed off during these meetings and Matthew wondered if he should leave the poor creature home. He considered it a couple of time but what if something happened? What if Kumajirou got lonely? Or ate all the maple syrup in the house? That would be disastrous.
About a half hour later, the session was called for a break, which meant it was lunch time. Matthew stood, setting Kumajirou down in the chair to stretch. It felt like he had been sitting there since forever! Ah, and now for a nice, hopefully quiet lunch…
“America! You idiot!”
Matthew’s eyes widened slightly, instantly recognizing the voice as Cuba’s, and turned to see what was going on. At first, he thought the man really had caught Alfred but that thought quickly fluttered away when the man began hitting him on the head. Matthew, already used to this treatment, flinched and ducked down, successfully dodging Cuba’s blows as he grabbed Kumajirou and headed out of the door.
“I’m Canada!” He shouted, though it sounded more like a soft cry, barely gaining enough volume over the Cuban’s loud voice. Deciding that it was best to get out of his sight, Matthew made a hasty retreat out of the conference room. Once out in the hallway (and a few doors down from the room), he let out a sigh. ‘He always mistakes me for Alfred… Even though I‘ve told him over a hundred times that I‘m not him.’ He frowned, holding Kumajirou close to him as he walked, looking down at the floor. ’Why does Alfred always have to cause trouble? I’ve told him how troublesome it becomes for me… I doubt he even listened to me. Just once - just once - I wish someone would see me as Canada and not as my stupid, idiotic brother.
He closed his eyes for a moment, thinking how wonderful it would be if people would FINALLY open their eyes and SEE the differences between him and Alfred. Ah, it would be great! A happy day indeed!
Matthew was so caught up in his little daydreaming that he didn’t bother to pay attention to where he was walking. Quite suddenly, he ran into something, causing his eyes to snap open as he stumbled back. At first, he was expecting to see a wall or piece of furniture but no, it was neither. Actually, it was a person.
“I-I‘m sorry! I wasn‘t paying attention! You aren‘t hurt, are you?” He said quickly, his cheeks flushing red from embarrassment. How could he have been so stupid! He should have been paying attention instead of being off in ‘la-la’ land!

G i l b e r t - W e i l l s c h m i d tGilbert had opted to tag along with his brother when it was the day of one of the world meetings once again. Ludwig had been talking about it for quite a while, though more so with worry than with excitement. Germany had always been a nation that liked to move forward. These meetings almost did the exact opposite at times. Gilbert listened as he always did, making snide remarks here and rude remarks there when necessary. Hearing his brother rant was always fun anyways. But when the day came, Gilbert was less and less enthusiastic in his replies to Ludwig's tirades, for he actually didn't feel like going himself. World Meetings—or most any meeting nowadays, actually—made him feel so... powerless. No! I am awesome! Still am! And yet, no matter how many times he tried to convince himself of such, there was always a part of him inside that was broken. A shard of his pride had cracked away, and slowly, more and more fissures were appearing. Gilbert wasn't sure how much more of this torture he could stand before blowing up one day.
At the beginning of the meeting, there was some stupid role call. They always did this at every meeting... God it was such a bore! But deep down, Gilbert knew that it only bored him because he missed it. Sitting there, seeing all the other nations declare their presence made him a little sad. When his name wasn't called when the felt it should have been, Gilbert sulked a little. Everyone seemed to have forgotten him already. Actually, no one paid him much mind anymore. Barely anyone noticed him.
Gilbert had been sitting there, making snide remarks at the fight that ensued between Alfred, Francis, and Arthur, but none of his wit seemed to have been heard. And if it was, it wasn't acknowledged whatsoever. After a while, the nation just gave up and sat to the side, sulking like a little stubborn child. After all, what else could he do? No one would pay attention to him anyways, no matter what he did.
Gilbert didn't stay long at the meeting. The fight was still going on when he frustratedly got out of his chair, knocking it over in a mix of annoyance, sadness, and just general mischief. It was in his personality to cause havoc after all. And he had done that quite well back in the day... But those days were long gone.
With greater aggravation, Gilbert kicked the door open and stormed out, no one noticing but his brother, Ludwig. Of course, Ludwig had to stay at the meeting... And plus, he was already used to Gilbert's sudden fits of anger. Ludwig knew that Gilbert had great pride... and all that had been smashed to bits when he was no longer recognized as a nation... There wasn't much that Ludwig could do, though, except stay and try to support Gilbert however he could. Of course, being Gilbert, he wouldn't accept 'assistance' in any shape or form. His pride had taken enough already.
Gilbert angrily stormed around the halls, trying to find something on which to vent his anger. Though this was a meeting held in Germany, and he knew the outdoors better than he knew the back of his hand, Gilbert didn't quite feel like facing the bright and sunny day at the moment. If he did, he'd probably punch the crap out of the first guy he saw. And though he was no longer a nation, doing something like that would be terrible. Gilbert, after all, liked... other means of attacking. Vital regions, ahoy! he thought slightly sarcastically. He wasn't quite in the mood to get into someone's pants at the moment. He would possibly kill the person by mistake.
Too lost in anger and depression, Gilbert rounded the corner without looking. Next thing he knew, he crashed head on into someone. Or it was more like someone crashed into him, being slightly shorter than he was. God no... was Gilbert's first thought. He had just admitted to himself a while ago that he would most likely kill a man at the moment if he encountered one. He quickly recovered, smelling maple all of a sudden in the air. The former nation did have a strong liking for pancakes and syrup... "I-I‘m sorry! I wasn‘t paying attention! You aren‘t hurt, are you?" That voice was so... dainty! Not to mention that it was quite quiet. In this world nowadays, Gilbert wasn't even sure if there were quiet people left... especially when most world meetings involved yelling. Heracles was an exception, but he was just weird all around; sleeping and cats couldn't possibly be a healthy lifestyle.
Gilbert, still aggravated despite the sudden crash, brusquely replied, "Damn right you weren't payi—" He stopped when his eyes landed on a pair of very soft violet ones, framed by golden hair and very enticing flushed cheeks. Immediately, his anger seemed to just sort of disappear. Forgetting what he had even been thinking about as he was sulking, Gilbert paused and took in whomever it was that was in front of him. "Matthew?" he asked in a much softer tone, slightly confused as to why the nation wasn't attending the meeting. This was a world meeting, after all, and Canada took up the second largest amount of land in the world. A little odd, then, that such a nation would be out of the meeting.((First, I thought it would be G8, then I realized that Cuba was there, so I'll just say it's a world meeting held in Germany. By the way, if this is "Novice" level for you, I'm a little scared to think what "Advanced" is... >_>)) P r u s s i a - I s - A w e s o m e

After all, that’s what everyone did. He would start yelling at him for something, surely he would… Oh, let's just hope he won't start hitting him like Cuba. His head still ached from that.
Though, when he didn't, Matthew looked up at him and suddenly noticed that he didn't know the man. Well... he sort of knew him. If he was here, than that must mean the man was a nation. Only nations were allowed here. No outside humans were. It wouldn't be good if a human showed up here.
After all, according to everyone else, they didn't technically exist. Only their bosses knew the personifications of nations. If anyone else knew... well Matthew didn't want to think on what could happen. It wouldn't be good though.
Ah, but none of that was important now. He had to remember who this man was!
Short, silver colored hair, red eyes, pale skin... all of which sort of reminded him of an albino person.
Wait! There was one nation who fit that description! Matthew had only met him once before and it was very briefly then. He hadn't caught his name either. However, he did know the man lived in Europe so he must be from around here. Ah! Actually, this was the same man who had been making those snide remarks during the meeting. No one had seemed to pay much attention to him then... well, except for Ludwig. Plus, this man had been sitting next to Ludwig... did they live nearby? Were their houses close?
Prussia? Where did that name come from? Oh wait! Prussia did live near here, once and he was pretty close to Germany as well. Matthew didn't know his human name but he knew that Prussia was an albino-appearing man.
But, hadn't he been dissolved?
Ah! But enough of that!
"Eh?" Violet eyes blinked, looking at the man and paying more attention to him. Ah! He called him by his name! His human name! Hardly anyone remembered his national name, let alone his human name! Matthew smiled widely, feeling happier right now than he had all day. Someone recognized him for Matthew and NOT by his idiotic brother! "Ah, your Prussia, eh?" He asked, still smiling at the man. Where height was concerned, Matthew was probably an inch or so shorter than Prussia. "Oh, were you heading for lunch? I'm sorry, I'm probably in your way..." Matthew shifted, raising his hand to push up his glasses and step to the side, letting Prussia go by if he wanted to.
((Ah, yeah I figured that's where they would be. ^^; It being in Germany is fine by me - I thought that's what we had agreed on anyway.
Oh, it's just long because it's my first post. My first posts are typically long. But, yeah, I consider myself a Novice... but I just pick it because it's in the middle so we can write pretty much how much we won't. My posts depend on my moods too. G i l b e r t - W e i l l s c h m i d tGilbert studied the confused expression on Matthew's face with great amusement. All of his anger had somehow completely evaporated, and Gilbert was just left with a sort of entertained countenance. Matthew was such an easy person to read sometimes, even if the former natio had to admit that he rarely actually ever watched Matthew or studied the maple lover very often. At most, Gilbert had seen Matthew in passing, or when his eyes scanned various meetings with boredom.
"Eh?"
The expression that overcame Matthew's face at that moment almost actually made the former nation laugh. Almost. But deep in his mind, there was still a little sadness at being forgotten at all of these meetings. And just because of that little sadness, Gilbert, in the end, wasn't even able to utter a chuckle. Still, seeing the incredibly happy expression on Matthew's face was quite amusing, even if Gilbert couldn't understand the reason behind it whatsoever. Huh. Perhaps I said something right... Though, of course, all Gilbert could remember saying was his half outburst of anger and Matthew's name. Prussia could not see just what had made the nation in front of him so happy. But hey, it wasn't like Gilbert could have argued against having such an effect on someone. It was better than killing the person, which was what he had been sure of doing just moments ago.
"Ah, you're Prussia, eh?"
Gilbert was a little surprised that Matthew actually knew who he was, but recovered quickly. Of course he knows who you are! You're AWESOME! Everyone knows who you are~ Gilbert smirked and nodded. Apparently, someone was decent enough to remember the greatest nation that ever lived. That was a good mark in Gilbert's book. Everyone else was just... stupid. Yep. They were idiotic imbeciles who had poor memories and no future. If they couldn't remember who the most awesome nation was—and still is, mind you—then they weren't fit to call themselves nations. Hmph. You're awesome. They're not. Done. Satisfied with that thought, Gilbert felt like striking the typical 'I'm awesome' pose, but decided against it when the nation in front of him continued. That smile was oh so sweet, Gilbert thought. It was just a side note, but at least he had even noticed it in the first place.
"Oh, were you heading to lunch? I'm sorry, I'm probably in your way..."
The nation in front of him then—adorably—pushed up his glasses and took a side step to clear the path for Gilbert. What a courteous fellow! Not only did the nation in front of him know and remember who Gilbert was, he was also so polite! Of course, that probably was because he was, in the end, Canada, and therefore naturally polite. But nevertheless, it boosted Gilbert's pride slightly that someone was finally stepping aside for him!
But Gilbert made no move to go. He should have, but something held him back. Perhaps it was the fact that, around Canada, he suddenly felt powerful and highly regarded again, or perhaps it was the politeness, or perhaps it was the soft little smiles that the nation gave. Whatever it was, it held Prussia back. Anyways, he hadn't been planning on going to find lunch, but now that Matthew had mentioned it, it sounded like a good idea.
Getting another idea, Prussia smirked. "Hey, Canadia"—Gilbert just suddenly got the nickname out of nowhere, and he liked the sound of it—"How about you come with me? I was just about to go get lunch, you're right." The former nation winked. "But I'd love some company." Whatever the reason was for his invitation, Prussia would dwell upon later. For now, all he wanted was to go and have some fun and forget about the fact that he no longer had any power at all.
Before Canada could really reply, Gilbert grabbed one of Matthew's hands and yanked it away from underneath the polar bear that the maple lover was clinging onto. Chuckling, Gilbert broke into a run down the hall, not sure of Matthew's athleticism. But hey, if the nation, in the end, couldn't run as fast as this former nation, then Gilbert would most likely just carry both four-eyes there and his polar bear.((My posts likewise depend on mood... Though it's more how much homework I have. Right now, I have plenty of homework, but I'm procrastinating, and therefore, I can post somewhat a decent amount, though not as long as my others...)) Maybe there was the (slim) chance that he might actually want to stay and talk to him? Hm, maybe. Actually, Matthew wouldn't mind that. It would be nice to talk to someone other than Cuba and Alfred. Of course, there was nothing wrong with talking to them. At least, not until one of them forgot about him or, in Cuba's case, mistook him for being America.
"C-Canadia?" He blushed lightly, letting the name repeat itself in his head. It sounded so... girly to him. Definitely not something he was used to being called. Though, right now, he had the urge to say 'My name is Canada' but he never got that chance.
Within the next couple of seconds, Prussia (as he didn't know the man's human name) invited him to lunch and snatched up his hand. Matthew blinked, having to quickly shift Kumajirou in his arm as he looked at the other. "Eh?" He barely uttered the word when Prussia suddenly started running - and dragged Matthew along with him.
Thankfully, Matthew was able to keep up with the white haired haired male (playing hockey had it's advantages) though it was a little difficult to run while holding onto Kumajirou. The polar bear shifted in his arm, putting it's paws around his arm though still kept that vacant, bored expression. It didn't seem to be bothered by the running at all. Matthew, on the other hand, was a little worried he might drop the white bear but he kept running along with Prussia.
He heard a shout from someone (a nation more than likely) as they ran passed by but Matthew didn't know what they (he assumed the person was a he) said. He was more concerned with keeping up with Prussia. The man just suddenly began running and, while it confused Canada, he found that he didn't mind it. Running actually felt good. But, exactly where were they headed to? Prussia was leading and God only knows where he was taking them.
"P-Prussia? Where are we going?" He asked finally. All he knew was that Prussia was going to go eat. He knew nothing else.

G i l b e r t - W e i l l s c h m i d tPrussia ran for a bit, not really looking back. He didn't know his destination himself, and was trying to figure that out. When he had started on his dash, all he had in mind was getting away from the accursed meeting. But beyond that, he had just about no clue where he wanted to go. But he knew two things for sure. He was hungry. There needed to be some pancakes for lunch.
Meeting Canada had made Prussia crave pancakes and syrup beyond probably what normal people ever felt. For some reason, Prussia had always had a love for pancakes, though probably not as much as the nation trailing behind him did. Nevertheless, pancakes belonged as one of the top favorite foods of the former nation. And the thought of eating it at the moment sounded quite divine actually.
Prussia didn't turn his head as he heard the shout. It sounded like someone trying to stop them, probably because of some stupid excuse like "This is a sacred hall! Stop acting like children!" Yeah right. This was what Prussia lived for. The former nation really enjoyed having fun, and even after 'death,' there was no way that Gilbert was going to let some random person stop them from going their way. Therefore, he just picked up the pace a little bit more.
"P-Prussia? Where are we going?"
Right when Matthew asked that, Prussia knew exactly his destination. It was obvious. And thank god that the meeting was held in Germany, otherwise he probably wouldn't have been able to figure out where to go. And they were right in Berlin too, which had been his side of Germany at the end of WWII. This was his home turf.
"The name's Gilbert. Gilbert Weillschmidt. Don't you forget it!"
He didn't really like being called Prussia, though it was a mixed feeling. Some part of him enjoyed it just because he was glad that at least someone remembered him for the great nation that he had been. But another part of him was really saddened every time his nation name was mentioned. It reminded him too much of the fact that Prussia was really no more.
They dashed outside and Prussia slowed down, reaching the side of the road. Not answering Canada's question, he hailed a taxi. Sure, the distance was short enough that they could walk, but there was no way that he could wait that long for his favorite breakfast place. That place sold breakfast all day long!
When the taxi arrived, Prussia got in first, not really caring about that whole hold-the-door-for-someone-else-because-it's-polite thing. "Hope you don't mind missing that oh so exciting meeting for a date with AWESOME here," he spoke, gesturing to himself at the last bit.
He had actually spoke sarcastically about the meeting so that he himself wouldn't be burdened by it. Back when Prussia had been a nation, those meetings had been so fun. They actually were still fun, but Gilbert didn't want to think about that. It would only make him sadder. And boy, if he was going to spend the rest of this day dragging a blond and his bear around, he was going to enjoy it! Hmph. Even if I'm not a nation, I'm still awesome! They're just missing out! With that reassuring thought, Prussia managed to come to terms with his sadness temporarily. After all, he wanted Canada to get the best impression as possible of the best nation to have ever lived.P r u s s i a - I s - A w e s o m e

The man’s human name was Gilbert then, huh? That was a name he didn’t hear often. Not that there was anything wrong with it… because there wasn’t.
As they ran, Matthew couldn’t help noticing that he was smiling again. This was fun, even though someone had already yelled at them. He wasn’t about to suggest to stop. When was the last time he just broke loose and ran in a hallway like this? When he wasn’t late to a meeting… but he rarely did that. Not that it mattered much. No one would notice if he was gone or if he ran a little late. That was the only good thing about being borderline invisible.
When they made it outside, he noticed that Prus-Gilbert never answered his question. Matthew was sure the man had heard him… or maybe he was just ignoring it? For a split second, he worried that Gilbert had forgotten he was here. It hadn’t been much time but, if he had, it wouldn’t be the first time. But, wait. Gilbert still had his hand. That meant he still acknowledged he was here. Matthew smiled, feeling happy once again. It was like whenever Cuba would see that he was Canada and not America. That little bubble of happiness that swelled inside of him and made him smile. It was good. Perhaps he and Gilbert could become friends? Matthew wouldn’t mind that, not at all.
Matthew climbed into the taxi after Gilbert, closing the door behind him. He chuckled softly when Gilbert called himself ‘awesome’. “I-It probably isn‘t a good idea to miss the meeting.” He said as he put his seatbelt on. “We might miss something important.” That was a lie. When did anything really important go on in these meetings? Matthew knew his own country was doing fine and the only thing that was really being discussed were trade issues and Global Warming.
Basically the same things that were discussed at every meeting.
“Than again, m-maybe it won‘t be so bad to be a little late… but we can‘t miss all of it.” Matthew said softly. He still didn’t know where they were going or how long it would take to get there. Actually it was a little exciting. “It‘s like we‘re on an adventure, eh? Kumajirou?” He said, looking down at the pet polar bear.
Kumajirou looked up at him, giving him that familiar blank, clueless stare. “Who are you?”
“… I‘m Canada.” Matthew sighed, sitting back, feeling a little disappointed that Kumajirou still didn’t know who he was. After all, at least Matthew got the bear’s name right every once in a while.

G i l b e r t - W e i l l s c h m i d tPrussia listened quietly at Canada's absurd spiel about the meeting. Who cared if they missed the meeting? Certainly not anyone that was currently there at the present moment, most of which forgot about Gilbert's and Matthew's existence. And if they didn't seem to care, then why in the world would Gilbert then give a damn himself? No. That would make no sense at all. In fact, that would be completely sad. And though Prussia was many things—especially AWESOME—he was not going to be pitiful. If the people at the world meeting didn't care that he nor Canada was missing, then he and Canada aught not to care in return.
When Canada mentioned the whole 'not missing all of the meeting' thing, Prussia snorted inwardly. Yeah right. What the hell would we do there? They'll think the place is haunted since the door seemed to open by itself... And knowing the people that attended that meeting, Gilbert knew that his thoughts might actually be true. The last thing Gilbert wanted was to be thought of as a ghost—to have everyone rushing around in a crazed panic, not at all noticing that it had been him who had walked in. God that would be horrible. Absolutely horrible. Gilbert didn't want to think about it any longer.
With that thought shoved aside, Gilbert slowly returned himself to paying attention to Matthew, who seemed to be holding a conversation with his pet polar bear. As a side note, Gilbert thought the polar bear absolutely interesting—and weird—at the same time, but he also found it entertaining. Gilbert often had a thing for quirks like that. That is, the polar bear definitely didn't count against Matthew. Not at all. But back to the point of the conversation that Gilbert entered. He entered right into the conversation when the bear had asked who Matthew was.
"... I'm Canada."
Gilbert waited for a little to see if the bear would react, but when the bear maintained that vacant expression, Gilbert couldn't help but burst out laughing. He clutched his waist for a moment as his eyes shut tight, laughing so hard. He hadn't laughed so hard in a while, and Gilbert thoroughly enjoyed this little moment. Wiping a tear from his eye, Gilbert tried to straighten up, but it was hard considering it had practically been... well, at least a century since his last strong good laugh. And Gilbert was enjoying it very much.
Finally managing to calm himself, Gilbert looked up with a bright smile, actually letting his guard down for a moment. Canada was perhaps one of the few people that had seen Prussia with his guard down in Prussia's whole life. In front of Matthew right now wasn't Prussia the Awesome Nation, or Prussia the Long Forgotten Empire, or Prussia the Overly Cocky that everyone seemed to use to know. No. It was just Gilbert Weillschmidt.
Leaning back the in the chair, Gilbert closed his eyes and gave a sigh of relative delight. God his waist and chest hurt from heaving that much. Matthew had to be someone especially awesome to be able to entertain the former great nation that much, and by just a little skit between him and his bear too.
Still not opening his eyes, Gilbert murmured, "You... You're unbelievable. Even your bear? Kumajirou was it?" Apparently, Gilbert was good with names. He managed to remember the name of the bear that his owner had forgotten some times before. "Dear god..." He was still breathing a little hard from laughing, and his waist still hurt.
Gilbert sat there for a little in silence before looking over at Matthew to see if the nation had anything to say about his sudden bout of laughter. And before Matthew could say anything else, Gilbert surprised even himself by saying, "Sorry, by the way." Prussia never apologized. This was a first. Then again, laughing that hard and genuinely was a first too. "Just never... whatever. That's not important. It was just hilarious." With that, Prussia's expression returned to his trademark "bad a**" smile, devoid of the genuinely simplistic one that he held just moments ago.P r u s s i a - I s - A w e s o m e

╔XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╗ Matthew Williams ╚XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╝ ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡ The moment Gilbert began laughing, Matthew wanted to turn invisible again. For a moment, he thought the man was laughing at him. Though, he really didn’t know why… was it because of what Kumajirou said? Was Gilbert laughing because not even Canada’s own bear could remember his name?
Oh that was depressing.
However, as he watched the man, he couldn’t help feeling this wasn’t a mocking laugh. Gilbert was laughing, yes but it really didn’t seem to be… at him. Not directly at least. Perhaps… perhaps he wasn’t laughing at him? Maybe, just maybe, he was just laughing just for the sake of laughing? That he found the situation funny? Matthew wouldn’t mind that, if this was the case. As long as Gilbert was laughing AT him, than it should be fine…
The blond Canadian sat still, his arms around Kumajirou as he waited patiently for Gilbert to calm down. His laugh was nice and it made Matthew want to smile. Laughter is contagious, eh? Though, it didn’t make Matthew laugh, it certainly made him smile.
Once Gilbert’s laughter ceased, Matthew wondered if he should say anything. He didn’t want there to be a spanning silence between them. After a moment, he opened his mouth, about to speak but Gilbert beat him to the punch.
“It‘s okay.” He said, lifting his hand to wave dismissively while he smiled. “Besides, laughing feels good, eh? It‘s okay to enjoy a good laugh every now and then.”
That was a philosophy Matthew tried living by… though, with the way the world was, it some sometimes hard to get a good laugh out of anything. Then, when even your own brother ignores you… eh, best not think about that. Dammit Alfred… it was all his fault!
Pretty soon, the cab driver asked for directions and Matthew reverted back into ‘quiet mode’ for a little while. Once the directions were given, the cab went off, going down the street and away from the conference building. Matthew glanced back at it, vaguely wondering if they would make it back in time. Even if people forgot who he was, he still needed to attend the meeting. After all, he was still part of this world. He was still a nation, an important one if he dared say so. Just because they stayed out of everyone’s business didn’t make them any less important…
Oh, but what about Gilbert? Since Prussia wasn’t a nation anymore, Gilbert really didn’t need to be there, did he? Well, he did say he was with his brother…
Ah! He should probably start talking before Gilbert thought something was wrong!
“Berlin is a beautiful place.” He said, turning away from the window to look at Gilbert. He looked away after a moment, not really sure where he was going with this. He just wanted to start a conversation.
“It kind of reminds me of some of Big Brother Francis‘ cities… except with a different feeling…” It sounded like he was rambling. That wasn’t good; he didn’t want to BORE Gilbert to death with his nonsense. Matthew cleared his throat slightly, turning his head to look at Gilbert once more. “S-So… are you and your brother close?” It was a bit of a personal question, yes, but Matthew was generally curious.
