Lucy hummed a song softly as she wandered through a field of tall grass. The wind was blowing as she listened to the soft whoosh is made as it blew through the grass and the trees. "That boy..." she thought, "He was so kind. I'm glad I've met one of my own kind who has a good heart." A tear managed to escape her as it rolled down her cheek. She had been alone for so long, and her days were all lonely and empty. She had felt something that she had never experienced before upon meeting Noahlin. She wasn't quite sure what the feeling was, or what it meant. All she knew was that it made her so happy, and for the first time in her life she had made a friend.

He gave a soft purr, or maybe more like a snore, as he lay nestled in his ever dirty little burrow. His body curled up tight, so it appeared his was nothing but large ball of fluff. He dreamt of her. He dreamt of the sweet girl he had met before. He dreamt of the brilliant golden eyes that he tried so hard not to stare into. They were gorgeous, like jewels almost. He dreamt of smile, and sweet first, and imagined a soft lullaby surrounding him. He dreamt of the soft feel of her, when he pushed on her rear. No, not like that! He would never think like that. The smell of her, when he was grooming her soft fur, still lingered on his muzzle. She smelled sweet. Like grass and honeysuckles. That smell was so vivid right now, almost as if it was coming closer?
Slowly he was pulled away from his sweet dream, as he opened his eyes sleepily. Yes, that smell was close. He slowly pulled his body out from underground, stretching his limbs and giving a big yawns before fully opening his eyes. Hey look, it was that girl. A mere inch away from him.

"Hello!" Lucy said with a bright smile. Her heart was pounding so loudly that she wondered if he could hear it. "Our last encounter was interrupted a bit, so I thought maybe...uh, maybe we could..." Lucy began to blush slightly, "We could get to know each other better? I'd really like that!" "I must sound so stupid stuttering like that! What is this strange feeling?" Lucy thought to herself. She looked at him, he was so handsome. His eyes were as blue as the ocean, and his fur was patterned with beautiful stripes. Had she not been a little smitten with him, she might have been jealous.

Noahlin could've sworn he felt is heart flutter at her smile, and perhap a few other internal organs as well. He gave a gentle smile, before it turned into a happy grin. "Yes! I-I mean. Yes, of course, that'd be nice. Though I should properly introduce myself. I am Noahlin." He found himself staring at her once again, this time his eyes playfully following the intricate pattern on her. "Ah....Hm... I know a spot nearby, where a lot of flowers bloom. Would you like to go there?" He said, almost flushing at the thought of suggesting such a spot with romantic possibilities.

"I love flowers", Lucy said, "lead the way!" Flowers reminded Lucy of her past, or what she could vaguely remember anyway. Somehow the scent of blossoming flowers relaxed her, and even lulled her to sleep at times. She couldn't put her paw on it, but she knew there were memories lurking in her mind somewhere, if only she could uncover them. Having gone off in a daze, she snapped out of it and began to follow Noahlin. No matter what her past held, this was her future. This was now, and she had found another Shakaiyo that she adored. She smiled and ran to catch up, disregarding her thoughts about her lost and forgotten past.

He grinned, trying to suppress the unbelievable urge to wriggle his rear in happiness. He all but trotted to the destination, making sure the female could keep up. "You remind me of a beautiful flower.....A-Ah! I-I mean, there's a flower that's green and yellow too. Th-That's all...." He quickly turned his head away, his muzzle burning slightly at making a fool of himself. He kept himself quiet for the rest of the trip, before coming to a hill. At the bottom, he stopped and turned to Lucy with a grin. "Please, close your eyes."

Knowing that she could trust him, she closed her eyes.
I'm actually having fun for once...It's almost hard to believe.
With her eyes still closed, she flicked her tail in anticipation, when suddenly she felt a sharp stinging pain on rush through her left hind leg. Her eyes opened wide as she spun around and stared directly into the eyes of a hissing, coiled up snake...

"Okay, now this wa....Ah?" Flinching in surprise, Noahlin quickly whirled around, his eyes widening in fear when he saw the snake. He had seen one before, been bitten before. Instinct kicked in as his fur stood up, his lips lifted up to show a set of sharp teeth. He barked and yipped, hissing and spitting as he forcefully escorted the snake away from Lucy. Occasionally squealing and almost running away as the snake changed direction, slithering towards him. Once the snake was out of sight, he quickly returned to the gold-lined female. He leaned down inspecting the bite before biting down gently on it, sucking as much as he could before pulling back and spiting. "A-Ah! Don't panic! Ah, I've been bitten before. I know it hurts, but hang in here, I'm here. I'll help." He paused with his aid to nuzzle his head against the females neck.

Lucy had collapsed on the ground, only remembering that she had been struck and bitten my a snake. It was poisonous- she knew, for it burned like fire and began to spread. She heard a voice in the blur of everything that was happening...and somehow that voice reassured her that everything would be ok. She felt herself slipping into a sleep, she wanted to stay awake but she felt so very weak. It seemed she had just fallen asleep when she awoke to the sound of another's footsteps. Lucy opened her eyes, and everything was blurry. She heard a voice, that same voice again...but it was hard to make out. Suddenly things started to clear up. Her vision returned to normal and she found herself in what looked like an underground burrow. It was cozy, warm, and inviting. She was fully awake now and tried to stand up, but the pain in her leg wasn't completely gone. She stumbled back to the ground, a bit embarrassed.
...at least I'm alive...she thought to herself.

"Ah, please don't try to get up..." Noahlin's voice rang out, as he quickly ran to Lucy's side, pushing up against her slightly to help steady her. In his mouth his held a leaf, that served plenty well as a basket, with a variety of berries in it. He set the food down in front of her and curled up by her side, lying down next to her. "You should eat, it'll make you feel better. Ah, but our leg might feel numb for a bit, so please give it some rest." He tried to muster a small smile, but inside his heart was still pounding from the look of fear and pain on her face from earlier.

"I'm usually so careful..." she said, with a sad tone in her voice. "But I've never been around that area before."
"You, it's your fault."
She couldn't help but grin before finishing her sentence.
"It's your fault I'm still alive. At least I haven't lost my sense of humor", she laughed. Lucy wanted to lighten the mood a bit, feeling guilty that she had ruined their trip to the flower fields.
Her heart was fluttering in her chest as the thought, "He saved my life, without even a second thought. Without thinking about himself..."
Lucy was still very tired from her ordeal, so she layed back down and rested hear head on Noahlin's shoulder. "I hope you don't mind..." she said quietly, "but I feel safe here with you."
And with that she couldn't help but fall asleep.

Blinking in surprise, Noahlin couldn't help but give a crooked smile and a dry laugh. His face started warming up when she laid her head on him, but he just smiled and nuzzled her, feeling as if he were so much lighter. "Of course not, Miss Lucy." He took a deep breath, inhaling her sweet scent before drifting off himself.
-x-
Morning came almost all too soon, as the sun shifted into a position just right that the light filled the burrow. Noahlin's eyes fluttered open, blinking a few times to get used to the light before settling on the Shakaiyo next to him. He smiled, and nuzzled her gently, and would've stayed beside her longer if an empty stomach and cramping limbs weren't beckoning him to move. He slowly moved away from her, so he wouldn't wake her, and stretched his body, enjoying the satisfying pops of his body waking up.

Lucy began to wake up, as the sweet scent of morning poured into the den. She was still weak from the day before, but was indeed feeling much better. She opened her eyes to see a plethora of delicious looking food set before her. She would have thought it rude just to dig in at any other time, but her stomach was so empty! She dove in eating the sweetest fruits first, followed by a satisfied, "Mmm!"

Lucy finished eating and looked up. It had bee so long since Noahlin had left, the weather had grown cold and the leaves fell dead from the trees. She had her daughter next to her, and though they often disagreed...being together made the pain less apparent.
"Well, Emily," Lucy started,"Let's go."
They had been preparing themselves to go out in the world now that Emily was an adult. They walked through the wind and chilly weather, across the horizon and into the unknown.
