Jacob awoke with a slight twitch of his body, he could tell from the sounds outside his cave and the minor change in temperature that it was nightfall. He stood slowly and lazily enjoying the peace that night could bring. His pack had moved on to better places while he, himself decided to stay here a foresty paradise. Strange for a wolf with no pack but he did not mind for now, freedom was nice for a change. Though at times it could get very lonely.
Jacob shook his head at his depressing thoughts and made his way towards the lake, fish sounded appetizing and so did a quick wash.

It was her first time venturing alone in the wilderness. Having left her brothers behind she sought out her own adventure within the woods she lived in. Butterflies perhaps or even a few fish might have been fun to play with. Hmmm fish.. Mercy's eyes brightened with excitement. She'd been to the lake hundreds of times! And there were thousands of them just waiting to for her beyond those trees. She trotted the rest of the way there, her small wolfen tail wagging behind her.
With so much energy bursting from her, at the last moment she decided on a swim. After all, it would be easier to catch the fish if she was in the water with them, right?

Softly humming an old tune his mother used to sing to him, Jacob had finally reached the lake. A tender smile crossed his face as he took in the simple beauty nature could bring, the gentle lapping of water to the hooting of an old barn owl that lived in a tree a few feet down. His inner reflections were interrupted by a different smell, one that he had never smelt before, stranger. A wolf. He ears twitched listening for danger and took another deep breath, a young female wolf alone. No threat.
' Not good,' Jacob thought to himself as he made his way toward the unknown female. ' Females, need protecting they shouldn't wandering alone without pack around.'

Her long legs stirred the water around her, scaring the fish and stopping them from getting close enough for her to touch. What would they feel like? She heard her thoughts wander. But why weren't they getting close? "Fishy come back!" She whinned as her small figure chased one of the luminous scaled creatures.
Huffing, she stomped her hooves and slowly made her way back to shore, too involved with her latest failure to notice the presence of another. "They're sooo... mean." Why couldn't they be more like the butterflies of the fields? At least they liked to play with her and land on her on occasion.

The closer he got, the clearer the female's voice became and soon a body matched her voice. 'A small little thing,' He thought with a smile upon his face not realizing how much teeth he showed. He crepted closer and picked up her words, something about a fishy-um fish. 'Ah she must be hungry, poor female.' He made his way down by the edge of the water, some feet away from Mercy, he spotted a rather large fish within seconds he caught it with his power claws and jaws.
He made his way slowly over to her, not wanting to frighten the young one. " Hello there little miss. I see you were trying to catch a bit to eat. I caught to much and wanted to share. My name is Jacob, nice to meet you!"

Mercy lifted her head, eyes wide with amazement as she gazed up at the huge male mere feet away from her. Wow... she mouthed. "I... you..r big." she sputtered, in complete shock. She'd never seen such a big creature. Let alone the fact that he was a wolf, like her mum and brother. "Your like me!" Her happiness apparent in her tone. "I can't believe it! I've never seen anyone else but my family. Are any more like us?" A little too excited, maybe and definitely too innocent to have the common sense to be cautious around someone she didn't know.
Finally noticing the fish he'd brought in his mouth, she tilted her head and studied it. It's radiant colors still sparkling in the filtered light of the trees. Still beautiful. "I wanted to play with them... they just... didn't want to play back."

Jacob tilted his head with amusement at her open month and wide eyes, " Why yes," He winked and laughed at her enthusiastic voice. " I get my size from my father not so much my mother. Speaking of your family, how come you travel out alone all by your lonesome. It is not safe for a young female to be by herself. " Jacob decided to rest his body for a moment, he was enjoying himself anyways talking. He found himself mentally shaking his head at how naive the young one was, her family must not taught her about stangers. She was just lucky he ran into her and not someone with evil intent. " Others? Hmm, yes there are but not in this area sadly. My pack has moved on to somewhere more to their needs."
Jacob looked down at the flopping fish before him and then looked up at Mercy. " Oh," He grinned sheepishly. " I thought you were hungry! Fishes, unsociable little things. They tend to swim away when ever there is company or playing involved." He tried to soothe her. " Ah! How rude of me, I just realized I forgot to induce myself. My name is Jacob and you are?"

Nodding her head rapidly, she smiled. "They did, but I guess I have a hard time listening sometimes." Of course she knew that was the problem, she always had her head in the clouds and couldn't keep her feet on the ground. Figuratively speaking. Keeping her attention on the conversation she nodded again. "Oh wow! So they are others! I always wondered that. I mean, after all living here and not seeing another... Cool!" She hopped enthusiastically around his resting body, stopping to investigate his mouth and the larger dagger like teeth he possessed. "Those are huge too.. So why did they leave you behind? Didn't you want to go with them?" In a way it was kind of sad she thought. It must have been a hard decision to make, being away from her family too long she couldn't imagine how he felt now.
"I've noticed!" In a way she understood why they were like that. After all, Lots of things preyed on them. Like herself on occasion. "Oh, I'm Mercy!" He had already mentioned it to her, but at the rate her mind was going, she had forgotten all about introducing herself. "I'm sorry."

He smiled and watched as she moved around him, 'Busy little femmie, always on the move. She would make a good hunting partner once she got old enough.' His inner thoughts were interrupted by her voice. " Yes, they did but it was my choice though. I just couldn't leave my territory, its familiar and their is no danger around for now. Hmmm, yes in a way I wanted to leave with them.. It was hard but I wanted to stay here were I am most comfortable, plus you can't have to many alpha's roaming around." He joked. " It could cause problems with a pack. Nice to meet Mercy, such a lovely name and no need to apologize at all!" He flicked his big bushy tail around in contentment.

Her small head bobbed in acknowledgment. Though she didn't know much about alphas besides that they made alot of the decisions for the pack, she continued to nod anyway. She could tell by the way he carried himself he was definitely alpha by nature. "Ohh... Well I'm here now! So you don't have to be lonely anymore" she pipped and added with a full toothed grin. "And now I have some to play with!" Perhaps over time, not just someone to entertain her, but to also learn from.
She leaned over him and gave his ear a playful tug before bounding backwards, her back end high in the air as her tail wagged behind her.

Jacob continued to watch Mercy in amusement as he listened to her talk. The words 'you don't have to be lonely anymore' rang in his head before a weath of emotion; happiness, joy, and fear somewhat. Fear of finding something good and than having to loose it. "Play? " He let out a growly laugh. " It has been a long while since I last played with anyone." He jerked in shock at the playful n** and let out a loud laugh that surprised him and slowly got to his feet, a gleam in his eye. " Ooooh," He said in a low watching her bum and tail wiggle in the air with amusement. "Here I come-!" As soon as his last word was uttered he jerked forward to chase her. "You can run but you can't hide Mercy!! "

Mercy's lips twitched into a smile. "Well we can play anytime you want!" Her smile glowing as she waved her tail again.
She watched him a moment after he bound after her, her own legs taking control and moving her sideways to avoid him. Her giggles ringing through the air as she disappeared through the bushes. "I know! But you gotta catch me!" She knew it wouldn't be long before he did considering his longer legs could cover more space than her, but the fleeing was still fun. She just hoped that this friend would be around for her when she got older.

Jacob smile turned into a look of horror as he realized Mercy was heading toward a dangerous area in which he usually avoided. "Mercy! " He yelled in urgency and took off after her. " You must go any farther in there little one! It's not safe! Parts of the forest floor are hollow ground-like caves and you could fall through! " Jacob dodged carefully after her, finally in what seemed like hours was really a few minutes he spotted a black tuff of fur. He let out a sigh of relief and made his way over nudging her to a safer direction.

Mercy continued ducking and weaving through and under the bushes in an attempt to loose her pursuer. His voice rang through her ears stopping her short just in time to miss slamming into him. How had he gotten in front of her? Had he known on instinct where she was headed? Smiling up at him she gave him a quick nod. "Thank you!" She chirped, rubbing her head against his furry chest.
Goodness, if it wasn't for Jake, she could have been in real danger. One she had never even considered before. Humming to herself she wiggled her tiny bum in the air before she took off in the direction that he had nudged her small body.
She ran, though it was slower than it had been. Exhaustion was slowly taking over. Mercy stopped, let out a loud yawn and glanced over her shoulder looking for Jake. It might have been a bit funny, trusting someone she had just recently met, but she wanted him nearby while she rested. She might have been naive and innocent but one thing she had learned from her mother was that, being young and alone while one was vulnerable, was just asking for something to trouble.

Jacob let out a relieved sigh as Mercy listened to his words. " You are quite welcome dear-heart." He let out a rumbled soft laugh as she cuddled briefly but for taking off a ways away. He noticed her slower pace and the yawn of only those truly tired. 'Ah, youngs ones. So much energy one minute and then burned out the next.'
Once he caught up with her Jacob nudged her to a soft grassy spot that looked comfortable. " Hm, all that playing must have warn you out. I hope your family isn't looking for you." He looked concernedly about, I mean she was little and with a complete stranger after all. He was getting alittle bit protective and a wee bit angered that no one had come looking for her.
He shook his head at inner-muses and decided to rest himself. Jacob scratched the ground where he planned to lay before circling and finally laying with a soft grunt. " I have heard that I make a great fluffy warm pillow. " He said jokingly to the still standing Mercy. " If you feel comfortable enjoy to join me you can but if not there is a spot over by that tree." A few minutes later he felt the body of another with his eyes closed he sighed and drifted off to sleep.
