Lydia glanced at the sheet of paper, it was by far the oddest sheet of paper she had ever held in her own two hands. And, to go with it, in front of her was the oddest building she would have ever stepped foot in. A lab, a letter, a callback after applying for a child? Life just seemed strange lately, but it was all of her own accord. She felt like she was dreaming or something, but it was a good dream.
Only a week or so before she had filled out the application. It wasn’t a job application or anything of that sort, but one for a child. Lydia had wanted to be a mother for awhile now, but had no partner to conceive with. She was quite confident in her parenting abilities though, and was sure she would make a fine single parent. After all, she had done the research, and was sure she was intelligent and patient enough.
Stepping into the building she was directed from a desk, followed the directions to an office, and knocked on the door of said office she was directed to.

The "directions" had been in the form of a large note that said "In my office, knock loudly" and signed by someone called Apoxi, with an arrow at the bottom pointing to a little map of the building with Apoxi's office marked off on it.
The woman who opened her door was a sleepy looking female with large poofy hair, a little upturned nose, large black glasses, and freckles dotting her cheeks. She was adorable for a scientist, to say the least, and she had a pleasant demeanor once she was awake.
"Oh hi there. What can I do for yooooooou?" she asked, the last bit being interrupted by a yawn.

For some reason the door opening had startled the raven-haired woman. She jumped slightly before finally responding to the other woman, "I filled this out, for a child?" she said nervously, as if she were afraid this was all just some huge joke being played on her.
She observed the other with bright blue optics, taking in as much as she could. Lydia had always been a very obvservational person, especially when it came to parenting. She figured that with all the obvserving she had done with parent child relationships she would be a fine parent.
"I do believe I'm ready for the next step...? If there is another?" the woman was mildly confused, and it certainly showed with her unsure expression.

Apoxi nodded, "You're Lydia right?" she asked, seeing as that was the only name she could think of for someone that'd been called for that day.
"Would you prefer to pick out your child or do you want me to select one for you?"

Lydia nodded her head gently, "Yes, that's me." she confirmed.
The woman thought for a moment, she didn't want to choose a child and be prejudice against certain attributes. That for some reason seemed wrong to her, though she knew she wouldn't mean to do so. After a moment she replied, "I believe I'll have you choose for me."
After all, the element of surprise was a bit of a rush.

"All right. Do you have gender preferences or anything you're allergic to?" the woman asked first.
About that time, a toddler with tan skin and rainbow hair leading up to a cloud fro came rushing down the hall and crashed lightly into Lydia's leg, giggling as she bounced off.
"Hi hi!" she laughed, looking up at the woman and smiling before going to hug Apoxi's legs.
"Say you're sorry, Jillie." the woman said, patting her daughter's hair.
"Sorry jillie!" she giggled again and peered up at Lydia with a big grin.

"Allergic to? Why, no. And I do not have a gender preference." she was getting a child, right? She felt like this was more so along the lines of a puppy or something. Then again, by what she had slightly glimpsed they were not normal children. There was nothing wrong with that, just a little... shocking.
"Oh my! Hello there." Lydia said, looking down over her long skirt at her legs and the child who had bumped her. She knew what the child meant (or was supposed to mean) with the sorry, so she responded accordingly, "It's quite alright... Jillie? Yes?"

"Jillie-an." the tot agreed, nodding. "Lo Lady! You here for baby too?"
Apoxi snorted, "I'll go find you a little one then. Just a few." she said, heading a bit aways where she could still hear Jill talking to Lydia for an idea.

Lydia nodded her head gently, excited for the mere idea of having a child. It had always sounded so rewarding, though challenging.
Looking down at the young girl she smiled, "Why, yes actually. I am going to obtain a child." the little girl before her was quite cute, and she was sure her child would be just as cute. She was excited, though a bit nervous. Her hands shook lightly but she was all smiles as she waited patiently.

Apoxi returned shortly after with a very adorable little girl. This child had huge orange-red ringlet curls, red-pink feathers on her head, and big pink eyes. Her nose was a tad beaked on the end, but in a cute way, and the foot visible as Apoxi put a shoe on the tot was three toed and sort of like a softer bird foot - two toes in the front one in the back, meant for gripping perches.
"This little lady was rarin to go to a home." Apoxi teased, setting the now two shoed girl on the floor.
Jillian leaned over to wave a hello to the other girl. "You gets a home now!"

Lydia smiled, the girl was absolutely adorable, especially with those huge, darling curles that rested on her tender head. "She's darling!" the woman admitted, looking at what would be her new daughter with caring eyes.
The young girl smiled and clapped her hands gently, "With her? With this nice lady?" she asked, confirming her suspicions.
Lydia nodded her head gently, "Why, yes, with me." she said with a small nod, looking back at Apoxi, "Is there anything else I need to do? Paperwork or anything?".

"Yes but just a bit." Apoxi assured Lydia, grabbing the forms and showing her where to sign. She tended to play favorites when she got to pick out kids, giving the children with the best dispositions to the nicest homes - and this little redhead tended to be a complete doll to deal with. "She'll need to be brought back once per stage of life - you'll need to call ahead first, though - and if you need money to help in her care, feel free to ask."
Jillian giggled, walking over to hug the funny girl. "you get to go with nice lady! Come back and play sometime, k?"

Lydia nodded, she had signed many forms before so this was nothing new. It was all just protocol, agreements and such, no problem. The pen skritched wherever Apoxi gestured, the young woman writing quickly in her own excitement. "Oh of course." she nodded, thinking of it basically as a doctor's check-up which was no issue. "And thank you, but I don't think we'll need any financial assistance." she assured with a smile.
The little girl clapped again and jumped, her large curls bouncing with her, "Yay! Yeah, I'll come play an' stuff, dun worry!" she assured the other girl, hugging her back.

"We might call for physicals sometime in spring but that won't be a big deal." Apoxi commented, having noted the calendar. "We also have a few events planned for around that time so feel free to bring her along if you get invitations. And if you've got questions, we're around all day."
"Yay!" Jillian flicked her tail and smiled brightly. This would be fun!

Lydia smiled, her head bobbing up and down in agreement, "Yes, that won't be an issue." she confirmed. Upon hearing about the events she perked with interest, "Oh you don't say? I'm sure we can attend something sometime." she said, looking over at the darling little girl that would soon be her own.
The girl grinned widely, obviously excited at the idea. She was a very social child, so the mere idea of playing was a good one to her.
