((before you read this please understand, this poem is not about ALL poets...just most of the ones i'm familiar with and myself as well))


the poet

reveals their darkest fantisies
and paints a picture of pain
they put their hearts in every word
put their tears on ever line
they can recreate joy
or just mimic sorrow
they are artists using words
mastering imagery instead of paint
a poet must be strong
they must be prepared for daily heartbreak
a poet had to be a tortured soul
they must know a path of darkness
because they must master the mind
must capture the heart
must escape reality
must run into nightmares
for humanity to experience the poet
the poet must first experience humanity
