I dont see any topic on pickups. let talk about what you like and recomend. so yeah, i really like Ibanez infinity pickups very nice, and im thinking of getting an EMG-81 for the brigde on my guitar, what do you guys think, i need to see what's up. the reason im changing is that the pickups in my guitar are making too much noise. I'm also thinking of replacing the neck pickup but i dont know which one to put.

I don't really know much about pickups. But since I recently got an Ibanez GAX30, I've noticed much more about the pickups in my Behringer strat-copy and the difference there is between those and the Ibanez's pickups. The Behringer has three single-coil pickups, like [:]-[:]-[:] from the bridge to the neck. The Ibanez has two much stronger (?) pickups they look like two single coils in each one, like this [::]----[::]. The single coils are a much lighter sound, lacks that real crunch and fullness to the sound, while the Behringers pickups produce alot more warmth, heaviness and just have a generally fuller, more complete sort of sound. I was just looking on Ibanez's site.. www.ibanez.com Raw rock and roll simplicity and double-humbucking pickups in a crystal-cut mahogany body. I definately recommend any humbucking pickups to metal heads out there, just from what I've seen and heard of many good metal guitarists, and humbuckers just seem to kick a**. I'm pretty happy with this guitars pickups, and in future purchases of electric guitars humbuckers would be a major thing I'd look for in the guitar.

my Ibanez guitar has one humbucker and two single coils ( single-single-humbucker) anyways I like this combination, I play things besides metal and its nice to have a singlecoil in the neck position , I use it mainly for a natural sounding clean,( sometimes I use for some really bassy, without treble ...well almost) but I when want something artificial, sort of like um...trebly then I go to my faithful humbucker, I pretty much use for that and for distortion purposes....
( btw the guitar Im planning on getting has two humbuckers...its les Paul ninja )

Single coils are good for clean, humbuckers give you that real power in distortion. It'd be nice to have a guitar with a bridge humbucker and neck single coil, I think that's pretty cool.
Just depends what kind of music you want to play, really!

So from what I gather, the Jem 777 has everything that anyone could ever ask for in pickups on a guitar: H-S-H configuration, a 5 way switch and a coil tap. Total and utter versatility in a guitar.
I'm going to try something totally different in my guitar: an EVO 2 bridge pickup which has a totally different magnet. most of Dimarzio's pickups have Alcino 5 magnets, as well as most other pickups on the market, but the EVO 2 (as well as the original evolution pickups) is built with Ceramic magnets. I have a bit of an idea of what it will sound like, but I'll soon find out. I want that growl that you get when you overdrive an amp with a full bridge pickup.

My main beef with active pickups is changing the stupid battery. Also, anything battery-powered will subtly change sound as the battery drains. It's not like a constant flow of the same current, like it would be were the device plugged into a wall outlet. There's passive pickups that sound "better" than EMGs.
Also, high-output humbuckers produce great, robust, mellow clean tone. Don't automatically rule out single-coils for use with distortion: sometimes, if there's another guitar player in your band, you might need the sheer abrasive high-end of a single-coil so your solo is heard in the mix.

Good points. I should also point out that active pickups are really nice in a clean tone, especially if you want that nice natural OD from a tube amp. The sound can be almost anything you want since that's what active pickups are good for. And you can get high output humbuckers that have a really high trebly sound almost like the sound of a single coil. It's really a matter of communication between you and your other guitar player.

another thing you can do is :when playing live have the rhythym guitarist use a lower volume and or tone level, and in a recording: lower the rhythym track a bit, woudnt that work?...I mean most bands I like, have guitarist who use guitars with humbuckers, and there's no problem...I do love strats though though I love Les Pauls more
