What would you find to be the oddest religious ritual there is?
This can be completely esoteric, to very common knowledge. Take it in any direction you want, I just want an authentic religious ritual, and perhaps some citation if available.

Getting a child drunk and molesting them as a rite of passage into puberty. Yes there is a religion within the US that endorse this. Source: Good Witch's Bible

The Ancient Moabites uses to deficate publicly at an altar to pay homage to their god. Seriously. They would walk up, pray, and poop right there in front of everyone. It was actually quite the honor.

I once read about a society (don't remember where or what the people were called), but when there was a drought all the men would go into their temple and have sex with the priestesses on the alters. And they would continue to do this until it rained.

Eating glass with mercury on it (pretty sure from fluorescent light bulbs) in order to prove yourself devoted and faithful to God. I wish I could find a good source for those, I saw it on TV and I think it was a Catholic sect (not recognized by the Church) in the Philippines. On the program a young girl was preparing to partake in the ritual and it obviously caused a commotion. The local priest spoke against it and they had doctors on the show discussing the ramifications and how harmful and deadly it could be.

Don't mean to offend anyone, but I always found the whole Catholic drinking the blood of Christ and eating of the flesh to a little gross. It's like representing cannibalism.

Coyote de Venganza Snake Handlers Church. I was like no way? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snake_handling yeah, just like i said. to me this is a fine example of "tempting God". what, are you trying to prove how holy you are? how about proving it by helping the hungry and homeless, or something useful?

Catholicism always seems to have a ton of creepy rituals to me. I mean dressing little girls up as brides and having them pledge to a religion they're too young to understand?
