i can't believe the commercial i saw on t.v. today for the humane society!! it was full of these graphic images of like, cows being mistreated at farms, and all the saddest looking animals. it even had footage of a man preparing to club a seal. you see the stink about a foot away from its head as hes swinging the club down on it, but then it fades away to blackness. Deliriums 4 year old was in the room and saw it, and then asked his mom why the kitty was hurt. what do you tell him? i mean, if i'd seen that at his age, i would have been crying uncontrollably. i would have expected P.E.T.A. to do this, but the freaking humane society??? thats just wrong....

Yeah, the one they do with Sara Mclachlan or however you spell her last name is pretty bad too. That DID make me cry. I have to turn the channel or leave the room while that one is on, because it will still make me cry.

they're under the impression that if the show people bad things, then offer a solution to stop those bad things, they'll get more of their goals achieved.

Yes, my poor baby was a little disturbed. I think they should make those commercials a little less graphic, and not put them on children's channels.

crying I hate the commercials that show all the mistreated animals. Maybe they think if they show us all those horrors then there will be less violence on animals. But, yes, there needs to be a rule about not putting those types of commercials when children may be watching.

You tell a 4 year old the truth, unless you think it's something to hide. There are mean people out there, and that's what happens when they hurt the kitty. That's why you should always be nice to the kitty, or else it'll be sad.
Not sure what to do about the commercials though.

4 year-olds aren't always equipped to handle the truth, though. It scares them sometimes to see people being so mean, and it's hard for them to understand why. This is my dilemma.

Its one thing to explain to a 4 year old that some people are mean to animals, that is abstract enough they don't have to worry over the concept, but NO 4 year old should have to witness it!!!! This is outrageous. At 4 thru whenever they run into mean kids at school, some of them are so tenderhearted, and so sweet. My friend's 6 year old could never handle that! He just cares so much. Children should in no way be subjected to things like this until they are old enough to understand that the world is much less than their perceptions of it. Sorry, getting off my soapbox now

I am not sure what you mean about Sara Mclachlan, but to me i agree with not having the advertisements on tv about that, They will learn about that crap when they get to highschool, no one really should know about the evil's in the world by watching a kids show, now if they are watching the news like I useto do as a kid, then that is different. I could take the killing of animals because I grew up on a farm. But todays society should not alow kids to be subjected to something that will scar them.

Sara Mclachlan does a commercial for the Humane Society that shows all these poor abused animals. She's trying to find them loving homes, but it's upsetting for me seeing all these animals I can't help that I start crying. I'm such a sap sometimes...

If it were on a children's network, the goal was probably to get the reaction that happened. If it's on a regular network, it's to target people like you, you silly caring person! Give them the money and those animals won't suffer anymore! Which I think is stupid. Of course they'll still suffer. Puppy mills and other mean things that happen to animals will still occur, giving one organization money can't fix that. It can help make those who are saved better, but not stopping the actual problem.

i'd be worried telling a four year old that there are mean people to hurt kitties and stuff, because then it becomes "but why?" or "are there people who hurt little boys like that too?" its something hes not ready for. when hes a little older yes, but not now.
i cry during most of them too when its that time of the month. its a dirty tactic.

It doesn't take much to make me cry. (That really gets on my nerves too...) I got to where I would mute the commercials and ignore the television while it was on. At the time I was living in a household that had two pets that were purchased new... the female sugar glider owned by my brother-in-law, and my mother-in-law's now 19-year-old chihuahua. The chihuahua had needed extensive medical care from the beginning...she had a ruptured bowel that had to be repaired at the very beginning. My in-laws had also taken in three stray dogs, all who were sweet as can be! And I had a sugar glider who is considered a rescue. I am his third owner and his first owner's son had abused him. So, it's not like that family hadn't done their part to make things better for the animals that came by. They even fed this malnourished dog that wondered over to the house until they could take it to the animal shelter. The only weight on that large dog was puppy. She would have eaten just as much if not more than the other three dogs combined...they couldn't afford to keep her much less her and the resulting puppies.
