Several weeks had passed. Xelloss' injuries had long since reached the point of forgetability. They were only scars now and soon they would fade. He doubted that they would even be visible soon.
Xelloss had been quite happy when he was able to finally spread his wings and fly back to his usual haunts. He could finally catch back up with his mistress. She had not been pleased by his long absence. He had been expecting some abuse and some abuse he had received. If anything, he was more sore from that now than he was from the wounds that had so recently healed. No, he wasn't still in pain from that. What pain he was in was from another source, and it wasn't entirely physical.
He couldn't get the damn kirin off his mind.
He had been treated with all sorts of disrespect from ignorant non-kalonas before but none had ever managed to so personally aggravate him as the kirin mare. Something about her stuck into him like a burr. He probably should have finished his business with her one way or another while he could, he realized. It was the unfinished business with her looming over him that kept her on his mind. That was all.
That snide little smile of hers...
Even thinking about her filled him with ire.
He needed to finish his business with her. To do that, he needed to see her.
It was with that in mind that he was on the hunt for the kirin. He prowled around the forest where he had first met her. He'd find her soon enough.

Deneb had been...confused by the leaving of the kalona stallion, relieved but also tinged with regret as well. There had been something about him, something that intrigued her, spurred her to act out brashly and throw caution to the wind. It had made her feel liberated, but betrayed by her inner self as well. She was a kirin! she shouldn't want anything to do with a kalona.
She'd tried going back to Requiem and his herd. Taking comfort in the strength of the big angeni, but it had been in vain. She'd been sulky, short tempered, and was afraid she'd hurt her friendship with the first stallion she'd ever met.
So she'd retreated back into the woods where she'd met the kalona, losing herself in the beauty of her surroundings, hoping the entire business was finished with the kalona, while a very small treacherous part wished he'd come back.

And there she was.
In an instant Xelloss froze. He didn't think she had seen him yet. He watched her as she walked. Each movement carried a sort of grace only found in the kirin breed. He doubted she was even aware of it herself. Of all soquili breeds he hated the ones he hated the most were the angeni, unicorns, and kirins. All of them were so full of beauty and wholesomeness, everything he wasn't and everything that it almost brought him physical pain to contemplate.
He wanted to hurt her. He wanted to sink his teeth into her and taste her sweet pure blood. It was a longing as pure as any he had ever had. He wanted to take her and tarnish her, keep her so that no one would ever be able to kill her but him.. and how he would enjoy killing her when that time came.
In a moment, the urge was gone. He was himself again. The usual self-satisfied smirk spread over his features.
"My my, look who it is," he said by way of greeting as he emerged from his hiding place.

Deneb jumped and spun, wheeling around to face the male. She tossed her mane and narrowed her eyes at him. "You." she hissed, stamping a hoof and preparing to fight if she had to. "What do you want?" she said looking him over.
Deep inside that treacherous part of her thrilled at seeing him again. He was even more magnificent now that he was healed fully. The light glinting off the metal work around his neck, gave him a sort of halo around his face. It was...
Deneb finally got a hold of her thoughts again and pushed them all down revolted at them. How could she even consider him a Kalona an acceptable fixation. She shook herself slightly and focused back on him, there was no telling what would happen this time between them.

He smiled a little wider at her response. Had he struck a nerve simply by appearing before her? Good. He liked seeing her irate. Choosing not to respond to her query at all, he decided it was about time for something. No, really it was long past time for a certain something.
"My name is Xelloss, Mysterious Priest!" he said abruptly and with a bright smile." It was very easy for him to put on this charade. It was the face he showed far more often than his real one, after all.
"And whooooo might you be?" He smiled at her, waiting and expectant. He needed a name to call her by. It would be handy for the next time he needed to curse her, after all.

Deneb snorted. Now he was introducing himself? She wondered what sort of game he was playing now. She eyed him as she considered. Why on earth should she give him her name? Names were power, in her mind, and she hardly trusted this Xelloss with her name.
"Xelloss? What sort of name is that?" she said tossing her head back up. "And you hardly look like any priest I've ever heard off." she said waltzing a little closer, her body not listening to any other part of her, especially her common sense.
And before she could stop herself she heard her voice chime out seemingly of its own accord. "I'm Deneb, like the star~" she said with a smirk.

"How chaaaaaarming," he drawled while letting his head drop so it was more on level with hers. That made both his cheerful expression all the more obvious... and the fangs that the smile only emphasized.
She was getting closer he realized. Didn't she realize that it was a kalona she was inching closer to? Apparently not. Most soquili didn't take him seriously if he didn't act like a threat. The look in her eyes, though, that implied something different. It was an acknowledgment of danger.
He wasn't sure if he liked being acknowledged and disregarded like that. "You know, you're close enough now that I could knock you flat and tear out your throat before you even could react," he purred.

Deneb suddenly got a hold of herself again and stopped her slow forward movement. She trembled slightly and glanced from side to side. She then smiled. "There are probably a lot of things you could do in the same amount of time." she said off handedly. She then turned and casually swayed back to her previous position next to the berry bushes.
She exhaled softly and tried to maintain her composure. "If you're wondering, I still haven't managed to think of anything you can do for me." she said casually.

"Is that so?" Instead of simply letting her retreat, Xelloss followed. He prowled along with the grace of a cat and slunk to the other side of her berry bush to watch her over it. He was half trickster and half predator in his bearing now. He was still thinking about how it might taste to bite her. Kirin blood probably tasted sweet.
"You'd better think fast. Either you won't see me for a while or I'll get bored and decide that I don't owe you anything soon enough."

Deneb took a half step back and eyed him. "Is that so?" she asked, her backbone reasserting itself as she stepped around the bush, moving so close to him that they were nearly touching. "Well we can't have you getting bored." she purred to him.
She took a deep breath letting his scent overwhelm her: blood, mixed with sweat, and the scent of his gender, and something else she couldn't pin down. Did darkness have a smell, she wondered. She flicked her tail absently, hiding the fact that her heart was racing her chest at being so close to him.

He really wanted to bite her now. To bite her and savor in the hot rush of her blood. To hurt her and hear the beautiful cries of her agony. He looked down at the kirin, so close to him now that he could feel her heat radiating off her. He wanted to-
... Is she flirting with me? Am I flirting with her?!
Xelloss jerked backwards from Deneb in sudden and forceful distaste. "Do you think that by attempting to charm me you can woo me from my evil kalona ways?" He sneered as he mocked her. "Don't be silly. I'm not going to change and fall in love with you, or whatever it is that you dream about in your stupid daydream fairytales."

Deneb was taken back by the sudden change in atmosphere. She blinked several times then laughed long and hard at him. "You and me!? Please!" she scoffed. "As if I'd waste my time trying to 'convert' you. I have better things to occupy my time with." she said shaking her head still laughing and turning away from him, partially to get herself under control from her laughter, and more so to hide the embarrassment that she felt from such an accusation that was so very close to home. Although it wasn't love she wanted from the stallion, it was something much more base than that. She'd had time to examine her feelings while he'd been gone and realized that the attraction she'd felt was more sexual than romantic.
"The only thing you'd be good for is a quick rut under the stars~" she said looking back at him with a smirk and then a flash of white hot embarrassment as she realized what she'd said.

"As if I would even do so much with a kirin like you." Xelloss snapped the words out a little too quickly, a little too defensively. "The only thing that could make us less compatible is if you were an angeni!"
It was utterly ridiculous. Why did he even have to proclaim that there was nothing between them? Shouldn't that be apparent? Why did this strange situation require elaboration?
Xelloss seethed and his ears flicked back in pure aggravation. His attempt at staying cool during this encounter was lost.

"And I'd rather fool around with a Skinwalker!" she screeched back before turning away again. She squeezed her eyes shut trying to keep back hot embarrassed tears. Why did he cause such a confusing turmoil of emotions in her? He was something that stood against everything she as a Kirin was supposed to stand for.
"You, you disgust me!" she managed to get out before her voice cracked. "Your...your..." she screeched unable to contain herself anymore. She quickly wheeled and lashed out with her front hooves at him, but was unable to bring herself to hit him. She returned to all fours and then quickly moved away again. Although he'd been taunting her, she was mortified that she'd lashed out violently in something other than self defense. "Look what you've done..." she said in a voice barely above a whisper.

Xelloss wore an expression caught between a sneer, a smirk, and a grimace. He loathed and was aggravated by this mare... but something about her being riled up and bothered enticed him. That in itself was nothing out of the ordinary. He thrived on pain. Sometimes he even thought he lived off pain. If he was around someone experiencing any sort of negative emotions it would fulfill him far better than a belly full of meat. So it wasn't strange that he should enjoy in this mare's suffering... it was just somewhat odd circumstances that had prompted it.
And she still drove him crazy, of course.
He sneered after her. "Really, Deneb." He used her name like a weapon, hoping it would guide his words even closer to her. "What did you expect? You helped me when I was injured. Thank you for that, but I don't think you understand something. When an injured kalona heals it becomes a kalona, not whatever grateful creature you imagined."
