Another long day. All days here were long. At least it meant that when he finally fell into bed his mind didn't buzz with thoughts for candlemarks like it usually did... Still, it wasn't time for bed yet, not by quite some way. Odd, how when he finished work he almost wished there was more to do. Time to fill, nothing to fill it with. This evening, like most evenings, he had wandered over to the fields where the Ghenzan dragons lived. Dragons in a field. Madness. Still, watching them gave him something to do other than think about how stupid this place was.
Sighing slightly to himself, Fealty sat down on the grass a good distance away from the closest dragon, a green that looked nearly big enough to be a blue to him. Just relax, try not to think too hard about anything, and eat supper. Supper at least was fairly promising; he had a big fat vegetable pasty for the bulk of it, and a nice looking redfruit for afterwards. He also had a small skin of wine; the mother of the household he had been taken into was a vinter, and swore by the virtue of a little red wine every day. Fealty wasn't a big drinker on the whole, but here in this mad place it was a comforting luxury to have a good drink every day.
Still, food first, the day's efforts had left him famished. Fishing in his bag Fealty recovered the pasty and, after taking it out of its hide wrapping, bit into it appreciatively.

In accordance to the fact that dragons still made him pretty uneasy whenever he got near them Panata did his best to avoid the dragon fields unless he was sent there for a reason, but that didn't mean from time and time again he found his feet had carried him over to where the massive beasts rested. They were huge compared to the small dragons that High Reaches bragged about, almost to the point where people could claim color spectrum changes for some of them. Of course his brain translated that a huge dragon meant it must have been a huge dragonet, and the lump in his throat was growing as days grew closer to an inevitable hatching.
Of course Panata didn't know how things worked here or how an outsider would be allowed to behave while out on the sands, it wasn't like there was anyone he could ask. People weren't exactly the friendly type unless it was to someone else they knew, but the young man was slowly getting used to the feelings of isolation. It only made the joy of seeing faces he knew from High Reaches that much stronger - and look there. There was someone at the edge of the field who just happened to be a face he didn't take to be from Ghenza. The fact that this person was also eating alone kinda cemented that Panata thought he may have been from High Reaches too, so taking a swallow of his nerves the blond started over and called out a greeting.
"Ah, well - good evening!"

"...Mrrfh?" Fealty had his mouth full when he heard the voice so his initial noise of response was vague, but he did turn his head to nod at the newcomer... Ah, a High Reaches face, another candidate at that. Not one of the noisy ones that he knew by name though, one more like himself who was never at the center of things... but about six turns younger by the look of him, he looked somewhere between fourteen and sixteen.
Swallowing his mouthful and wiping some pastry flakes away from his lips, Fealty chose to give a better greeting rather than ignoring the youth. He might not be too good at the whole people thing, but he was too bored and - to be quite honest - lonely not to give it a try at least. "Hello... Erm... Pan...?" He was pretty sure there was a Pan in the youth's name somewhere, but he wasn't entirely sure. "In case, erm, you don't know my name either, it's Fealty... You can come and, er, come and sit down if you like." Better mousy teenaged company than no company at all. It was one thing to be alone with your thoughts when you had a lot of new information to digest but when you had nothing new to ponder, and nothing to read in order to being pondering, it was really quite depressing.

"Ah...Panata. My name's Panata."
The boy had to chuckle a little as the other Candidate tried to remember his name and was actually thankful when he gave his own in turn, seeing as though Panata knew his face there wasn't a title attached to it. He smiled brightly and felt his cheeks color with happiness, just so glad to have someone else actually talking to him instead of grunting or shouting directions. Had he really been feeling that lonely?
"Thank you for the offer to sit, I believe I may have to take you up on it. don't worry, I won't...talk your ear off."
He had a need for silence as he sat himself down wearily next to the other teen, yawning a little as he stretched his arms. A thin bead of sweat ran down his cheek and pooled from his chin as his gaze set out towards the dragons. They were so large here at Ghenza it made him very uneasy to even see them from afar, but he'd have to learn to concur his fears eventually.

"Panata, right, I'll try to remember... If you're hungry, there's a redfruit in that bag I probably won't get around to, umm, eating. This pasty thing is huge." He was eating more here than he had back at High Reaches, simply because he needed an awful lot more energy. He did not, however, seem to eat as much as his hosts, much to their surprise given his build. He had tried explaining that he just happened to have a very efficient body, and that all the muscle they had that he lacked needed extra feeding but he'd fallen over his words so much that he'd just given up in the end. He needed more food, but not as much as they expected him to need. End of.
"There's wine in a skin as well," he added, "goodness knows I don't need all of it if you want some." While Panata looked very much too young to be drinking heavily, a bit of wine wouldn't hurt him. If his hostess was correct, it would even do him good somehow or other... Maybe something to do with it being basically fruit juice? When he got back to High Reaches he would have to see if he could find any information on the subject... If he got back to High Reaches before he was too old to Impress and therefore sent away, anyway.

"I will have to pass on both the food and the wine. I'm supposed to be dining with my hosts later and it probably wouldn't look to good of me to come in and not be hungry. Questions would be raised and I don't really feel like trying to answer them all like I'm being accused of not accepting their hospitality."
It seemed that the nearer things got to the Hatching the generally more standoffish the host family who provided for him turned out to be. One of their children was of the age to stand for their first time, a little boy who liked Panata and whom Panata liked too, but the way the people in the home made it seem it was as though he were competition for whatever number of eggs were out there hardening. It was very clear that the Ghenza people did not want outsiders taking their dragons.
"But thank you none the less. It's good to hear someone willing to offer something to me that doesn't have strings attached to it or an ulterior motive behind it. Things like that are happening way too often lately for my tastes."
The boy pressed his hands together as if he were praying and resting the tips of his fingers against his face, gazing out into the fields as though he were in thought. In reality his mind was blank and his eyes were just watching the massive dragons, brain trying to tell him everything was okay but his body slowly starting to sweat with a flop fear. This could be considered therapy, right?

"Eh, fair enough," Fealty shrugged, "goodness knows I shouldn't like to be the cause of bad relations." He could always save the fruit if he didn't want it, or feed it to some animal or other. "Things here aren't easy," he went on after a moment, uncapping the wine and taking a sip. "I understand their attitude towards us given their culture, but frankly I find their culture oppressive so understanding doesn't make me any happier about all of this... though perhaps I will feel better about this place if I ever truly understand it. I think I'm, err, too much an outsider at the moment, too used to how life is at High Reaches to even try to like this place... and yet how can anyone enjoy spending their whole life working, working, working, and how is it a good idea to have to, err, go into your father's craft no matter what? That makes no sense, talents must be being wasted left right and center here, and I, err, I don't think how they handle dragons is very sensible. One Touching when you're twelve, and every single boy and girl of an age to Impress gathered around a clutch? A lot of people must get hurt, or maybe no because these people are so obedient and stoic I expect most of them follow instruction to the letter in any situation and..."
Hold on. He'd been rambling for a while now, usually people told him to shut up eventually. He would have been able to believe that Panata was just interested in what he was saying if the boy had been looking at him rather than the dragons, and if he hadn't been pallid and sweating.
"Umm... Are you alright?" He wasn't really very good at this sort of thing, but as he was the only one around he had to try he supposed.

"Oh? Alright? Um, yes - I am. I'm fine, just a little tired from today's work and sometimes coming out here both calms and excites me. It's complicated to explain."
By 'complicated' Panata wasn't about to say that being around dragons still made him uncomfortable. It was almost unheard of for a Candidate to continue standing on the Sands with fear of dragons inside their hearts, seeing as the whole point of being out there was to try and Impress said beasts. Plus dragons didn't chose cowards, or so it was believed. Still Panata was going to stand come time for the hatching (wherever and whenever it was) so for now he'd just have to get over it all and suck it up.
"I'll be fine though, sorry for worrying you. I'm guess I'm bit more tired than I originally thought I was."
He tried to give off a weak laugh in an effort to offset the slightly awkward mood but instead ended up coughing and causing the dragon to raise her head ever so slightly. The boy paled about four shades of white before he bit her lower lip, commanding his body to stay put.
