Abyss sat at the rivers edge, front paws touching the water, allowing any ripple or small wave to lap at her legs. This was her domain and no one could ever take it away from her. Deep in thought he eyes stared out at the trees on the other side of the river. The pack was getting back together after how long now? It was hard to tell exactly how long it had been, days, weeks, months perhaps. They all blurred together much like how every drop of water blurred together to form mighty rivers and seas.

Letting out a sigh Abyss was torn. While she was happy to be back with the pack, well somewhat, she also missed her castle of shells. Within it's walls she truly was the watery mistress. Perhaps it was time to rebuilt what was lost and maybe this time it would attract the right male. Only this time she would keep that little tramp Gullwing.

Standing she gave her fur a shake and glanced down at her reflection to make sure her string of pearls and shells were still in place. Then she stepped deeper into the river and began walking within the water, eyes turned down looking for anything that would be worthy in helping rebuilt her castle of shells.

Hero was padding quietly along the streambed - so far it was a nice quiet morning, which was probably only because Winner was off doing well whatever it was the nasty brute got to when he wasn't tormenting Hero. Shaking his head to rid himself of these thoughts before he jinxed himself and make the beast appear he picked up the pace, trotting alongside the lapping water it was far to fine of a day to be caught up with thoughts of Winner anyways.

His gaze was turned up towards the sun and clouds when he was startled from his inner thoughts by a faint splashing of water. drat it was probably Winner! Skidding to a stop he looked around suspiciously..but saw only the pale blue form of Abyss, well she was a far cry better then Winner...and Hero rather liked her pretty pearl decoration, they were like his medallion - but different. She seemed to be looking for something but hero hesitated for a few moments - he was never quite sure what to say to Abyss she was somewhat of a reserved wolf and well..he always felt a bit like a bumbling idiot around her. And any female really. Still..if she needed help....Hero puffed up his chest and called out to her "Why hello there! Have you lost something?"

With the water surrounding her Abyss could ignore all the annoyances of life, especially the thoughts of her annoying half siblings. It was her domain, her partner, her - a voice interrupted her thoughts and she whipped her head around to look at Hero. How dare he interrupt her in her sanctuary. Well at least it wasn't either of her siblings, or any of the other lowly wolves in this pack. "Hero." She said almost coldly, though she held her tongue if only because of the calming water around her. "In a matter of speaking, yes I have lost something."

Her eyes returned to the water, ignoring the bothersome wolf for a few minutes while scanning the water. This river certainly didn't hold the same kinda or numbers of treasures that the sea held, but they would do, for now. "Though it is not something that will likely be found here."

Hero's ears flicked uncertainly at the tone in Abyss' voice, she certainly didn't sound happy - but it didn't seem to cross the young males mind that her tone was because he'd interrupted her, clearly it was because she'd lost whatever it was she was looking for - although he was slightly confused by her answer, if it wasn't going to be found where she was looking why bother to look? "Oh? What are you looking for? Maybe I can help..." He offered with a slightly hopeful tone to his voice.

He wouldn't mind spending some time with Abyss, maybe if he helped her and spent some time with her he'd get to know her a bit better, it wasn't like he had any other plans for the day - other then avoiding Winner.

Taking a few moments to consider his offer of help Abyss was torn. Two eyes would mean finding any shells go much faster, but at the same time that would mean that Hero would have to enter her domain. Taking a few steps forward she continued to scan the river bed for anything of interest. It didn't necessarily need to be shells, shiny rocks could do for now as well. Finally she came to a stop and looked at Hero again.

"I am looking for shells mainly." She told him, while thinking that he must be completely daft to not know what she would look for in a river. "I wish to rebuild my collection." Eyes moved back to the water. Spotting something near her paw she lowered her head, submerging her muzzle underwater to pick the item up. She then moved to the river back, on the opposite side that Hero stood and laid the item down. Inspecting the shell she deemed it an alright one, but surely she could find something better. So she returned to the water while glancing at Hero. "You may help if you must." Though her tone was not of one who wished for help.

Shell? Oh well Hero supposed that might be interesting though he wasn't sure how many shells would be in the river. Well there were some shell fish - he'd seen them, and where there were shellfish here had to be shells right? Right! "Oh!...are you going to make more jewelery with them?" he asked her curiously as he moved closer to the water, squinting into the waters depths "Cause your jewelery is really pretty" He told her sincerely. Yeah that was smooth Hero thought to himself with a slight inner wince. Gosh he was terrible at this...

Oh wait..was that shiny thing a shell? plunging his whole head under water he tried to pick it off the bottom before running out of air, getting hold of the tiny thing proved to be harder then he thought however and by they time he pulled his head back up he was sputtering and looking a bit like a drowned rat with the longer fur on his forehead draping over his eyes, flicking them out of the way he sighed he hadn't found a shell..just a wet bit of wood. He spat it out and looked some more.

Her eyes watched Hero for a short time. Well he was - enthusiastic about helping at least, though she doubted he would be much help at all. Most wolves seemed to either hate the water, or just not appreciate it for what it could be. "Perhaps, if I find the right shells." She commented, then narrowed her eyes a bit at him. Her jewelery was very pretty? It was far more than pretty, it was downright beautiful. She had taken a great deal of effort into finding these things and to call them just pretty was an almost insult to her.

Just as she was about to yell at him to insulting her jewelery he plunged his head under water. Perhaps he would drown trying to grab something and then she wouldn't need to worry about him bothering her any more. But then he came back up, sputtering like a fool. Abyss had to bite her tongue to prevent herself from laughing at his drowned rat look. "You're not doing it right." She told him before returning her gaze to the water.

Well wasn't that the story of hi life? He asked himself ,ear turning slightly downwards in a dejected fashion as she told him he wasn't doing it right, and was he imagining it or had she been about to laugh at him? Thankfully he'd missed her narrowed eyes look in his search for shells or poor Hero would have felt even worse.

Scuffing his paw along the bottom of the river to see if anything interesting lay underneath the top layer of pebbles and debris all he managed to do was stir up a cloud of mud and sighing he wader out past the cloud where he could see again. "Well..can you show me how to do it right then?" He asked her - obviously determined to help her regardless of his ineptitude at this particular task.

When he pawed at the bottom of the river Abyss finally snapped. "Do not disturb the silt like that, it soils the water!" She didn't mind him trying to help but damnit he was destroying her sanctuary. She had to take a deep breath before continuing. Why did others always seem to want to ruin her precious water?

"Fine you want to know the right way to do it. Then listen well. First, you don't go stirring up the bottom, ever!" She took a few steps closer to him, though continued to keep a good distance. "When you see something you want to pick up, don't grab for it directly. Come at it from behind and gently scoop it up." With her instructions given Abyss turned and padded back to where she was, leaving Hero to once again try to retrieve something from the bottom.

Hero huffed slightly as she snapped at him, it has seemed like a good idea to him - checking underneath to find buried shells, at least he'd seen land animals do it from time to time to find food. Oh well guess you learn something everyday right? "Alright, Alright!" He reassured her as she came closer. Hero wasn't afraid of her but he didn't exactly want to get into a fight with a fellow pack member. That would be terribly wrong!

Thankfully it seemed that she didn't want to fight at all, just give him a bit of instruction - even if her voice was hardly welcoming while she did so. Hero listened carefully and nodded slightly to her when she finished - even though she'd already turned away and didn't even notice his good manners - he sighed and turned his gaze to the water. Perhaps if he found a shell she would notice.

For a few moments Abyss forgot all about Hero helping her look for shells as she moved a bit further down the river. Eyes caught something gleaming at the bottom of the river, though it didn't look like a shell, more like a shiny rock. Well, rocks made good bases to put her castle of shells on. And this one certainly looked like it might have good potential. Lowering her head under the water she tried to pick the rock up, but it was buried too deep to do that. Well that wouldn't stop her from getting it.

Carefully she moved some of the silt from around the rock, not enough to dirty the water but enough to make the rock more accessible. Well it turned out to be bigger than she expected. Lowering her head again she began to push the large rock towards the bank of the river. It took a few turns at bobbing her head in and out of the water before she finally gave it one last push up onto the bank. Well this was a good find. A deep blue rock, with hints of purple swirls and flecks of white that reflected the sun well. A perfect find to use as her castle's base.

Then she remembered about Hero, giving her head a shake to rid herself of the water that clung to it her head turned to watch him. Abyss' eyed him critically as he looked for shells. She wondered if he would be successful or just fail again - or worse, disturb her sanctuary even more.

Hero was determined to find himself some sort of shell with which to impress Abyss, or at least well a pretty rock or something - surely there had to be something interesting on this dratted river bottom somewhere. He was about to move to another location to continue his search when his paw scraped on something that didn't feel like sand. Probably just an ugly rock he told himself - but none the less he shoved his head underwater to get a better look.

Well if it was a rock it was certainly a strange looking one! Sorta domed with odd little spotted patterns on it...oh! Wait a minute! Hero had seen these before, they were just normally attached to living things, rather large living things, and it was a shell! He thought it was pretty. Pulling his head up to take a breath of air Hero glanced about to see what Abyss was doing - it looked as though she was busy getting something to shore - well, he'd surprise her with a second object then and shoved his head back underwater. Nosing along the sand he found the edge of his shell and pulled it backwards. It came up fairly easily and lifting his head Hero waded towards the shore and then pranced over to Abyss with his tail flagging to and fro, scattering water drops in every direction though he didn't seem to care much as he presented her with his find. A turtle shell!

As Hero came up to her with his find she looked at him and then the shell critically. Well no matter what the shell looked like he certainly looked like he was proud of himself. Taking a step closer she tilted her head this way and that inspecting the shell. Well, it was a bit odd shaped, far too dull but - she remembered the large rock that she had just retrieved. Abyss knew she would need help getting it back to her den for safe keeping, and perhaps telling him this shell was nice would be the key to that.

Letting a smile cross her maw Abyss looked up at Hero. "What a good find. Sturdy, certainly interesting looking." Her eyes moved to the shell again. "And most importantly the creature isn't attached to it." What a shame, she though, if the turtle was still in it she would have a reason to tell him to put it back.

Hero nearly forgot to breath as Abyss inspected the shell with a critical look on her face - oh gods she wasn't going to like it! He worried to himself as the silence stretched on, he thought it was a nice shell - different and round and strong, wasn't that important? Of course it was! Being strong was always important and his eyes lit up as she seemed to reach the same conclusion, and she thought it was interesting looking to boot - well he'd just have to remember to bring her more turtle shells in the future.

My he hadn't even thought of the turtle still being inside and setting the shell down he peered into the opening, he'd have to remember to look for that in the future, giving Abyss a warm look he basked in the praise of the shell "Where do you want me to put it? Did you find anything nice?" He added the question at the end as he recalled seeing her pushing something to the shore.

"You may put it over with the others I have found." She motioned towards the small pile nearby. As her eyes settled upon the rock she had found she decided that now would be the time to use her charm to convince him to work for her.

"Well, I found a rock. Sometimes a nice rock is almost as good as finding a shell. Especially when its like that one." She looked back up at Hero, okay now was the time to do her work. Flashing him one of those smile she knew would make a male do just about anything. Abyss took a step closer. "Hero," her voice was smooth and warm. "Could you be a dear and take that rock to my den for me. I fear it's too heavy for me to carry without harming the shells as well." And just to add to her alluring effect she walked along his side and flicked her tail into his side before looping around him and coming up the other side. Coming to a stop she looked at him as if waiting for him to attend to his duty.
