One of my guinea pigs died tonight. I noticed him lying on the cage floor and though he was dead, so I went to pick him up with a bag and he opened his eyes and started moving. Thus began a two hour long battle with me trying to nurse him back up, giving up and getting him comfortable.
Then I sat with him until the end. My brother and I went out and buried him. It was snowing out but luckily enough the ground was not frozen since it's been so nice out. =/ What a sad night to have to be out there alone though.
He was the most affectionate of the 3, normally everyone's favorite because he was a real lap pig. The other two are gonna be at a loss when he doesn't come back.

Rest in Peace, Zoot. You sound like a Monty Python character and hold a place in the hearts of everyone who loved you. <3
I had to hold my rabbit through his death--I'd have called it animal cruelty [but I was only 12, I wasn't really sure how the proper way went] the way my parents treat animals in my household, so I'll stick to that answer.

Sorry about Zoot, Van. Losing a pet sucks. Was it old age or was he sick?

Thank you guys. I don't know what it was, he was only 2, which is pretty young for a Guinea Pig, they normally have 5-8 year life spans. He definitely hadn't been sick prior to yesterday, and the other two are the picture of health right now. It's gonna be so weird only having two of them and not having Zoot's little snout greet me every time I go near the cage. He was the tallest of the 3 and his nose just reached the top of the cage when he stood up.
This was us the day I adopted him:

And when I first brought him home to introduce to S'mores:

Him and S'mores and Cinnamon munching an apple shortly after we got Cinnamon.

I have the hex tank now, but I have yet to set it up and start circulating water. I might wait until Summer, but my family is having 'issues' with the electric company. They charged us effing double one month and haven't corrected their numbers. That was in damn well November!
