"No touching" Bastion reminded Carina for the dozens time as he held one of her hands tightly.
"I know, you told me and the spray lady told me, I won't touch them," Carina promised, the girl tugging Bastion into the large high ceilinged room as she spoke. Though her voice projected great excitement it seemed that the curio did indeed instead to keep her hands to herself.
A necessary thing given that Bastion had, grudgingly, taken her to the local butterfly palace. It wasn't that the dark had man was regretting this special father daughter day so much as the location their bonding was supposed to take place in. Butterfly's were weird to him. Neither frightening nor irritating just weird and he was mildly uncomfortable the the idea of hundreds of them flying around and potentially landing on him.
The likelihood of which was increased by the fact the 'Spray lady' had spritzed them with a pleasant smelling mist that apparently attracted the butterflies to the visitors. Carina was excited about the idea of being covered in ' pretty bugs', Bastion just hoped none of them decided to land on his face.

"Where are we going," Victoria asked as they walked up a side street and then turned a corner. Her eyes went large as she saw a large building with a good bit of ground was in front of them.
"If I told you it would ruin the surprise," Vlad chuckled. This was not only a 'playtime' visit but an educational one. He had to be creative sometimes considering Victoria was home schooled.
"No fair," Victoria pouted. She waited for the door to be opened for her.
Vlad rolled his eyes as he opened the door for his daughter. "You're something else," he mumbled.
Victoria stood in awe as she looked around at the pictures of all types of butterfly's. This was unusual considering that the only time she seemed interested in something was when it could get her what she wanted.
Vlad grinned and headed to the check in desk. A short while later and they were being given a tour which ended with being sprayed down by some sweet smelling mist. This mist caused Vlad to snort and his daughter to giggle.
Victoria touched her skin. The mist was slightly sticky. She dealt with it because it was going to give her the ability to attract butterflies. She grinned as they stepped into the next large room.
"Wow, this is a lot of plants," Victoria said as she spun around in place to get a good look around. "I bet the butterflies are happy."
Vlad continued to watch his daughter. It was moments like this that made the day all that more worth it.
Victoria who wasn't particularly paying attention stumbled over her own feet. Taking a couple of steps back to try and stop herself from falling she toppled into another little girl.
Vlad quickly walked over to his daughter and the other little girl. "We're so sorry," he said apologetically. He held out his hand to help them up.

Carina lurched forward at the sudden weight pushing on her and then the toddler's legs had crumpled. Falling and landing hadn't hurt too much but her butt felt warm where it had slid along the ground through her clothes. Her clothes that were quickly checked for any any big messes or tears, there were thankfully none, before her purplish pink eyes flicked between the girl who had made her fall and the person trying to help her. The small girl took the offered hand and pulled herself up " It's okay I forgive you."
Carina was a little upset becuase she'd been looking at a particularly pretty butterfly and wanted to ask what it was when she'd been run into. Not that she could ask her father anyways becuase he was several feet away back turned to her and talking on his phone!
Bastion had completely missed the accident as he was currently engrossed in an unfortunately timed, but important, work call. He'd winced upon having to answer it but if Carina and Orion wanted all the wonderful things he gave them he had to work and sometimes that meant even during special scheduled time off.

"Thank you," Victoria smiled. "I'm Victoria," she said as she curtsied. "The butterflies are just so pretty that I got a little to caught up and before I knew it I'd lost my footing," she giggled. She was trying to keep things light between them.
Vlad smiled as he watched the two. At least Victoria was not mean spirited. He was actually proud that she was fairly well mannered for the most part. "I'm Vlad, her dad," he finally said when he could get in a word edge wise.

Carina had never thought about tripping becuase of butterflies before, it seemed sort of silly becuase she'd been told to watch her feet too becuase the creatures liked to lay on the ground where it was warm. Maybe Victoria didn't get told that or forgot. Still, the curio did not get angry and instead just nodded "I'm Carina" she introduced herself with a curtsy of her own to the other girl and her dad.
Then the grey and black skinned girl gestured over towards her own father. " He's mine" she explained. Carina knew his normal name but it felt funny coming out of her mouth and so she'd let him tell them himself if he ever came back over.

Victoria glanced in the direction Carina had pointed. "Busy man?" Curiosity haven gotten the better of her she couldn't help but to ask. "Doesn't matter," she said after realizing how rude she must of sounded. She shook her head, curls bouncing, as she giggled.
"Butterflies are so colorful. Very captivating," Victoria smiled. "That's what I like about them," she was doing her best to start a conversation with the little girl.

Carina tilted her head upward to look at the butterflies that darted, weaved and fluttered above her under the glass ceilinged sky. "I think I just like them for no reason," she admitted. The redheaded toddler did think they were pretty and graceful but it didn't feel like the reason she liked them if she had one. " Maybe becuase they are gross or icky like other bugs" Even the caterpillars they came from fell under the gross and icky bug category in Carina's opinions, too many legs to bumpy and weird and crawly. Dragonflies were also pretty but they are other bugs and made a weird loud buzzy noise in your ear thus earning them her disfavour. Butterflies were for now in a special category all alone.
In fact Carina sort of wanted to have a tea party with one where it'd sit on the edge of a plate and use it's funny tongue thing to drink pollen. It was a funny image but the girl took it seriously, tea was very important to her.
Slowly her purplish pink eyes settled back on Victoria "What else do you like?" They were here to look at butterflies but they could talk about other stuff right?
Finally done with his phone call Bastion headed towards where he could see his daughter speaking with a strange curly haired girl. The man was quiet and unassuming as he approached not wanting to distract Carina. Bastion felt she needed more socializing, even if it was on their parent child trip, especially with other girls.

Vlad decided to leave the ladies to themselves. It was good for Victoria to socialize. She didn't have many friends... So, any chance she got was a good one. Education could wait till later in the day. He scooted away from them and went to sit on the nearest bench.
"I like the violin. It makes pretty music if played right," Victoria smiled. "And, chocolate covered strawberries are simply one of the most delightful things one could eat."
"What do you like besides butterflies?" Victoria asked. It was only fair that Carina reciprocate. An answer for an answer..

"Mmm I like Tea, and my brother and my learning pad and stuffed animals." They were pretty much Carina's top four favourite things in the world though their order was often shifted based on the girl's whims. " Oh!" she exclaimed and suddenly there was gleam in the curio's eyes. "I like this too." The toddler pushed up the sleeve of her shirt and then drew the trip of a fingers along her dark grey skin. The finger left behind a crude outline of a butterfly on her skin. " I can change my marks," the etch a sketch girl explained proudly. it also worked when she fiddle with the nobs on her forehead but that made her feel a bit different and wasn't as easy to control.

"That's a pretty nifty trick," Victoria said in awe as she watched Carina. "I bet you never get board," she grinned.
"I wish I could reciprocate. However, I do not have a violin," she sighed. There was something else she was good at, however, this wasn't the time nor place to bring it up. Things were going good between them and she liked it that way.
"So, do you like butterflies then to?" She asked only because of the drawing of the butterfly. "Or, are you just here to be here... I'm here for educational purposes, but they are pretty."

Carina wondered what the other girl could do with a violin, did Victoria play it or did she have some other sort of special skill which used the instrument? Oh well, maybe she'd find out of they ever met at a place with violins.
Carina shrugged " I think they are pretty and I wanted see something new with father." Butterflies weren't a big thing for her normally but she did like them and on the tv it had looked like a fun place to go for her special trip. " I wanna know what it feels like when they land on you, and kiss you," she admitted quietly. The young girl had heard the term butterfly kisses but she didn't know what they really meant and assumed they had to do with real butterflies.

"I didn't know Butterflies could kiss," Victoria said with a voice that held thought. "I was under the assumption that butterfly kisses was just another way of kissing. Two people lean in and blink really fast." She looked away from Carina and looked around at the various shrugs in hopes of seeing a butterfly. "I hope you're right though. I'd love to be kissed by a butterfly," she giggled.

Carina had wrinkled her nose at the idea of the kiss Victoria described. Ick, who'd wanna feel someone else blink? Still the girl let her mind move away from that thought quickly enough, particularly when her purplish pink eyes spotted something of far more interest than even butterfly kisses. " I see a chis.. chrys.. cocoon thing" she squealed and pointed into the distance where a semi translucent object hung from a tree branch something moving a little inside. "lets go look,"Carina suggested though she didn't wait for a reply before taking off towards it.
" Don't touch it," Bastion cautioned as he followed calmly behind, he didn't not if it would injure the butterfly inside but he wasn't willing to take the chance.

Victoria's attention was immediately pulled in the direction of Carina's gaze when she started to squeal. Her new friend must have found something great! "Wow. This chrysalis reminds me of a flower bud. Very good camouflage," she grinned.
It being higher up than she was made it hard to take in the complete details of it. She wished she could see it better. Then it came to her. She looked over her shoulder at her dad. "Up please," she said with a smile.
Vlad nodded his head. "All right but absolutely no touching," he said (which reconfirmed Bastion's previous warning).

Carina was mildly jealous over Victoria's ability to pronounce the larger more adult sounding version of cocoon. That faded quickly though as she too was picked up, even before she could ask. "How does it get out?" Butterflies were gentle and the cocoon looked hard and shiny. Still. it was neat to be able to sort of see the butterfly inside growing.. or something.
