-- Red Clouds Chakra Forest --

User Image

Somewhere on the borders of the Fire Ccountry, the chakra forest finds it's beginnings which leads far up into the mountains, eventually leading to the Akatsuki Mountainside base. The forest is old and the trees are incredibly large, with gnarled, dark-reddish trunks and wide branches perfect for running around within and leaping from tree to tree. The entire forest is covered in a thick fog which makes visibility within the trees minimal, only about 50 feet around. The air even seemed to be partially saturated with chakra particles, making tracking someone, even with a doujutsu exceedingly difficult.

From the upper muntain lakes, several rivers flow through the forest, which can at times act as place markers, but the forest itself seems to delight in fooling travelers who come through it and had been known to create illusions of waterways simply to throw people off. The forest is also quite dangerous, being home to many strange and exotic creatures and would, if travel through it were to be recommended to anyone, would only be recommended to Chuunin level ninja or above.

"Can't use your Byakugan yet eh?... no matter. I can steal whatever scrolls you might need to learn your Hyuuga techniques. Until then I can just get you to the base and you can work on your taijutsu and elemental capabilities. As a Hyuuga Clan member, you should be aligned with the wind element." Sai wasn't upset or really even surprised by this... he must have caught the boy just at the beginning of his training. What a Hyuuga was doing in Sunagakure, he didn't know, but it all seems to have been working out for the best.

After traveling for several hours, Sai and Atsureki had already crossed over into the fire country and along the western borders, when they came upon a gnarled and old forest, which spread out for miles on end, moving up into the mountains over the horizon. It had been a long time since Sai spoke, as he was not often keen on discussion during travel, but he felt he should warn Atsureki of the forest as well. "Make sure you stay even closer in here... if you lose sight of me for a second, the forest will make you lose your path and I guarantee you that you will not enjoy meeting some of the creatures you might run into here alone."

Sai then entered the forest, making sure that Atsureki was right beside him before jumping into the high branches of the trees as they leaped from branch to branch through the gnarled forest of large, ancient trees, many of which seemed to be barely alive, many with reddish trunks, even amidst the snow which was lightly falling and covering the trees. A thick fog hung about the entire forest, making it very difficult to navigate and very hard to see further then 50 feet in front of you.

Atsureki let out a sigh at Sai's understanding, it was good to know that Sai was not an unreasonable man. Atsu smiled at Sai's talk of training, he had never found anyone to train him in Sunagakure, it was quite fortunate that Atsureki had come across such a seemingly powerful teacher. He wasn't sure what Taijutsu style he would get to learn, or if he would have any choice in the matter, but it would be nice to begin learning regardless.

As they entered the forest Atsu simply nodded at Sai's warning, picking up the pace a bit to make sure he kept up with Sai. He certainly didn't want to get lost in an unknown land, especially when he had just met up with someone that would be able to train him. Atsureki took note of the strange trees and the thick fog, wondering if it was more than just a strange force of nature.

Making their way through the forest at a steady pace, they had been traveling for hours and were still only half way to their destination. there was no option of stopping in the Chakra forests however... even Sai would not think to sleep within these woods. He continued onward, following the path he had been taught and had traveled many times on his own as a rustle was suddenly heard from his right. As he looked over, he saw the Atsureki had turned to see if Sai was to say something when a large baboon like creature leaped out of the fog, it's claws and jagged teeth opened wide, aiming to kill Atsureki in one swift attack.

Quickly reacting, Sai grabbed a hold of Atsureki's left arm with his right and pulled the boy out of the creature's strike just in time as it's teeth clenched shut on nothing. continuing his movement in one flowing motion, Sai stopped his momentum on the branch beneath them as his left hand ignited in chakra fiercely, giving off a bright bluish/white glow which engulfed his entire arm as he punched at the side of the beast's head, hitting it squarely in the jaw as the sound of crushed bone and mangled muscle and flesh ripped through the air, Sai's arm clearly ripping through the creatures face and skull as blood sprayed into the air.

The creature was sent spiraling away down into the mist as a few seconds later a distinct thud was heard, as the chakra engulfing Sai's arm faded away, revealing slight blackened marks across the exposed surfaces. Sai winced in pain quickly at the use of his bloodline as his body struck out against him for utilizing it's power. shaking his head at the pain, Sai overcame it, though it lingered within his bones and throughout his body as the constant pain he always felt, though it was now highlighted with the sudden use and the push of adrenaline. "That's why we aren't stopping for the night by the way... and that was one of the baby ones. Let's hope we don't run into it's mother." Pulling Atsureki with him as they went, they continued on their flight through the forest, descending into the fog once again as Sai led them on.

Atsureki's eyes widened as he was suddenly pulled to the side by Sai, his short life flashing before his eyes as he saw Sai's arm ignite in a blaze of visible chakra. Closing his eyes as the hand shot towards him Atsureki was surprised when he heard the sound of bone shattering, but he felt no pain. Opening his eyes Atsureki was just in time as the ape-like creature was sent flying into the mist. Atsureki looked to Sai, his mouth open slightly, awed by the sheer power that Sai had at his command.

When Sai spoke to him all Atsureki could manage was a nod of his head, still shocked by Sai's display of power. The image of Sai's glowing hand filled Atsu's thoughts as they made their way through the forest.
I wonder if I will ever be as powerful as Sai-sama?, Atsureki thought to himself, glancing towards the man that would be his teacher. A small smile spread across his face at the thought of it, with power of this magnitude, how can we fail to change this world?

As they traveled, Sai expertly navigated through the shadows, holding his grip tight on Zenko to keep her still as they traveled. Soon, the cool breeze would be replaced with sprays of mist as they entered the clouded forest. Zenko wouldn't be able to see anything, but she would be able to feel the change, and even the strange make up of the forest air, which seemed to be somewhat saturated with bits of chakra. After a few minutes of this, light would suddenly filter back to Zenko's eyes as Sai erupted from the shadows, bringing them out into a small clearing of the trees by a running stream through the forest. several large flat rocks were around, and this was often a spot Sai used to rest within the forest, as it was not as foggy as other areas, and was relatively secure from threat.

Releasing her from his hold, Sai didn't say anything at first, walking past her as he took off his Akatsuki robe and hat, placing them on one of the flat rocks as he leaned up against the side of a larger rock structure, crossing his arms in front of him as he stared at Zenko, examining her. Zenko would clearly be able to see that he kept one arm wrapped at all times, but that the other still had a few burn marks on it as a result of his Chakra Shift ability... "I never thought that I would ever meet anyone like myself... to think, that you have had the same experiences as I have and have survived..." In the process of looking her over, Sai confirmed more and more that they were so alike... noticing the burn marks on her arms and legs from chakra augmentations she had used. "Have you ever met another like us?"

Zenko's mind was lost during the majority of the travel, the absence of her vision allowing the mind to wander. Instead of doing so, it instead focused entirely on Sai, and nothing but. No thoughts came about. It was as if she was staring at him, awed by some special attribute. Her mind was released from its free state when she felt damp air glide across her skin. They had entered a new area, she thought, somewhere other than they were. Of course it was so, but where were they?

Something was different about the damp air though, it had a unique feel to it. It felt almost as if she were being enclosed by a cloud of chakra, similar to the way mist does, which she was entirely sure was covering the area. Why would chakra be in the air? Everything seemed to be strange and new, leaving many experiences for which Zenko could either take, or just leave alone and watch. She could verify where she was once they were taken out back into the world of light.

Her wish was granted, and suddenly the natural colors of nature burst back into her vision. The grass was soft and scarcely damp due to the presence of the mist, flattened by several large rocks here and there, and shadowed by trees in all directions. They were in the middle of a forest, a clearing to be exact; a place to rest. She could hear water as well, a stream, flowing gently nearby with ignorance of the pairs arrival, supplying the life about it with its clean waters.

Suddenly, Zenko was set down, her feet coming into contact with the world she surveyed. Her eyes shifted to Sai, who had previously been holding her, as he walked towards one of the rocks, freeing himself of the Akatsuki dress. There was something peculiar about his clothes under it though, something that asked for her curiosity to intervene. That would have to wait however, as there were more pressing questions to be asked and answered. Zenko examined his physical appearance first, duly noting the familiar burn marks upon the visible skin of his limbs, all while listening to his first sentence.

Her attention was drawn by the question of meeting another, the events of the Chuunin exams once again flushing back into her mind. "Yes actually, I have." She began. "He went by the name of Cobra, and was the proctor, or the one in charge of the Chuunin exams." Zenko paused a moment to think further on what she was about to say. "He wasn't exactly like us though... He was free of the pain. He said that he was in harmony with his body. His presence at my house back in Otogakure released all of my pain and swept me away with the refreshing feeling of just being normal. It was really... different, nearly the same as what I feel right now near you."

(( I think this post was a bit choppy, or odd. Something about it strikes as weird to me. ;o; Maybe it's 'cause I'm tired. ))

Sai had not been to the Chuunin exams... there was often no reason for him to go, so he had no knowledge of who 'Cobra' was, but from Zenko's description, he didn't seem very much like them at all. "How could someone be like us, but without the pain? Pain has been my existence... my drive... my very life. I dream of nothing but being rid of it, to not feel the curse, but at the same time... I revel in the power it gives. How could he be like us without that?"

Refusing to really believe in the existence of such a person, Sai's mind wandered freely as he tried to grasp the situation. Zenko was like him... she felt the same pain, and exhibited the same characteristics... but what did this mean for him? Were they both strangely unique individuals, or part of something bigger. Sai had never had any family, nor had he ever met anyone else like him either. The very thought that there could be many others... an entire clan of people like him suddenly shook his foundation and forced him to sit down on the flat rock where he had laid down his robes.

Lying back, Sai stared up at the forest canopy and lost himself in thought for a few moments. Looking up, he looked at Zenko for a second, then sat up again, fixated on her. "...and there have been no others?... or any kind of explanation as to why you have this pain?" the more Sai watched her, the less he felt the pain which surged through his veins, as if mental contact could be made simply by focusing on Zenko. The sensation was almost intoxicating, making him not want to look away, as he continued to wait and see how she would answer.

Zenko listened patiently as Sai spoke, nodding lightly in agreement with what he said. She had felt the same throughout her life. The power and strength that it gave her was immeasurable, and incredibly unique, allowing her to surpass those even high above her if she tried. However, the consequences of using it was dire in some situations, and had the ability to hinder the user for only a moment. That moment could mean death, she thought, her mind flashing back to the near death incident at the Chuunin Exams.

"The only other I can remember is my father, but he was killed years ago before I was taken into Otogakure." She paused, attempting to remember what all had transpired during Cobra's visit at her house. "Not that I can remember... It was quite a long time ago. An unwanted tear appeared in her right eye and was quickly brushed away as she remembered what exactly had happened to her father. Zenko didn't want to think about those things, and that was exactly why she was always stubborn and doing something.

She put her attention back on Sai, waiting for his reply. With surprising ease her mind began to drift from her fathers death back to him, becoming enveloped in the feeling of ease as the pain was seemingly rubbed away to a certain extent. She felt she was almost drunk on the feeling, wanting to keep by Sai's side selfishly to keep it.

With every question Zenko answered, another five popped into Sai's head immediately. When he saw her begin to cry on retelling the tale however, Sai felt a strange compassion for her. It had been so long since he had felt compassion for anyone and crying, for him, had always betrayed an inner weakness not worthy of attention. However, in seeing Zenko cry, Sai felt no such thing, as somewhere deep down, he knew that she could not be weak to had lived and survived through the same pain he had suffered throughout his entire life. As he say the tear drop, a wave of pain overcame him and he closed his eyes feeling the ache of his body lash out agaisnt him as he endured his raging bloodline for a few moments before returning back to Zenko...

"Your father had the same abilities?" Sai said questioningly as he tried to process the information... "...if you're father had it, that would indicate some sort of bloodline which carries the trait itself. Yet, you are the only other person I have ever met who has felt what I have. If there are others though, then we must be a rather rare people." Sai had stood up again now, and leaned up agaisnt the rock once more with his hands crossed across his chest in thought. Suddenly however, he came out of it, seemingly dismissing the thought of what it would mean for there to be a clan of people like himself as he steeled his resolve back to the matters at hand. Looking at his Akatsuki robes lying on the rock, he then looked back to Zenko, formulating his thoughts in his mind before speaking...

"I have more questions, but I feel that we have lingered here long enough. Undoubtedly, you know who I am, or rather, what the organization I serve is. You are a rogue to your village now... and you've been seen having a member of the Akatsuki protect and escape with you by at least two people. Your life is in jeopardy, but I can't have that... not when you hold the key to so much of myself. Our organization's goal is unique, and not shared by all... but I will bring about change in this world and I will do what I must to make sure that the pain that we have felt is not needlessly driven onto other people. This world as it is sickens me, and I act to change it. Zenko, as the only other person I have met who shares and knows the pain I have felt... I feel that you would have no better place then at my side. Will you join me and help me to complete my goal and give us the chance to learn more about who we are in this world, that we might change it for the better?"

"Yes, my father had the same abilities. He took it upon himself to try and teach me ways to deal with the pain. He also taught me a few techniques..." Zenko paused, and allowed Sai to continue. When he stopped, seconds later she could see the look on his face, he was back upon urgent matters rather than what was going on right now. She noticed as well, that she had been standing this entire time, not doing much of anything but replying to what he said. Had she really been that drawn in by him?

She listened to Sai's long speech, and allowed to moment to pass before replying. In a moment like this, she would have to think before letting the words flow out of her mouth. "I will join you, and hopefully benefit from it as well as you. How could I pass up a chance such as this? I'd be a fool to allow someone like you to slip by my side, which I see you share the thought." A strange thought slipped into her head just then, and she remembered the gossip about an Akatsuki member possibly being held in Otogakure. "I don't know if this will help, but I heard there was a kunoichi being held in Sound for some reason. An imported prisoner from Konoha."

If Zenko hadn't had Sai's ear already, her mention of a kunoichi being held in Sound, as a prisoner transfer from Konoha... "Who would be an enemy to both Konoha and Sound?... Konoha has been hunting the Akatsuki ever since that annoying little brat has been trying to avenge the death of the former Hokage. Not to mention that Sharingan user who was always poking around for information on them..." Picking up his Akatsuki robes, Sai placed them back on, hiding himself beneath the cloak and hat as he left very little of himself to be seen.

"If there is any chance that this prisoner is who I hope she is... then I must return to Sound and deal with her. If she is in fact a former Akatsuki, she is a liability and I won't have her fall into enemy hands. I cannot say what will happen once I find her, and I do not want to endanger you, but if you wish to accompany me, then you can take your first step with me. You may however want to use a transformation jutsu to at least seem as if you are Akatsuki."

Zenko's interest was sparked at the mention of going back to the village, under the guise of an Akatsuki member. "Really? I'll do that then, since I have to recover a scroll that I left back at my house." She looked forward to going back, just so she could retrieve the scroll that she left behind. It was the key to her effectiveness using Taijutsu, and would make her extremely deadly. "Not too sure a transformation jutsu would hold long for me, since I've had nothing but elementary practice with it."

Sai was well pleased with her acceptance and looked forward to spending more time with her, learning about her and about himself. He was sure that he could also train her in many of the things he had learned. If indeed they were of a similar blood, she would be able to handle many of the techniques that he had taught himself, which he previously felt he had solely held the monopoly on in all the world. "Very well, but do not wander aimlessly on your own. You are a rogue in that village now and it isn't safe for you. I'm sure you can take care of yourself to a degree, but if you stick near me, I can protect you from any greater danger. The longer they think you are Akatsuki, the longer people will be afraid to attack you. that is the one benefit of our organization being known."

Walking around behind Zenko once more, Sai wrapped his arm around her waist and held her close as he had before, placing his left hand on his Shadow Blade, he spoke once more before bringing them both into the shadows. "I will be able to bring us both into the town, beyond the gates, but after that, we will have to emerge from the shadows. while we can move through the shadows together just fine, I have my doubts of how it would work standing still..." Without waiting for a response, Sai then activated his Shadow Step ability and pulled himself and Zenko into the shadows, on their way to the Otogakure.

A smirk morphed her expression, and showed that she had confidence. "Wander aimlessly? I know the ins and outs of that village from the time I've spent in it, and I know what is where. I honestly doubt that any of the ninja over there know how to tell what's not really what it is yet. So, where should we meet? If we happened to get separated that is, since I'm most likely going to go after the scroll that I left."

Zenko prepared for the timeless travel of Sai's shadow step, allowing herself to get comfortable within his grip. She was fine with not being able to reply, as she had nothing to say. As the sightless travel enveloped her, she began thinking through her current situation.
