Nyota bounced along a huge smile on her maw. She did it, she managed to sneak past all those guards and was now out of the prides lands. Things were so different out here. One was free to do what they wanted, when they wanted. No guards to keep their eyes on you. No nobles staring down at you for not acting properly at all times. This was what freedom was. And right now Nyota had her freedom, even if it was a temporary thing.
Her smile grew bigger with each step she took. This trip would be well worth the tongue lashing she would get once back home. Now if only she could meet a few rogues to play with or at least talk to. Her eyes scanned the horizon as she trotted forward, a bit of a bounce still in her step.

Maua was furious and not just with her rebellious, hard headed daughter - something that was obviously her fathers fault - but with the pride guards, why hadn't they stopped her? Why didn't they have the brains to outsmart one cub and the sense to turn an obviously noble one back to the mountain where it belonged.
Letting out a deep huff she glared at the guards she passed, if she had her way well..she'd stop and give them a good bating, but she didn't have time she supposed she would have to settle for dirty looks and..maybe reporting them to their superiors when she returned. But for now she was hot on the trail of Nyota, troublesome little beast if she didn't have so much potential...
What was that? a flash of purple in the distance? Lengthening her stride Maua hurried after the little cub.

A small grasshopper jumped across her path. Nyota crouched down to get a good look at it. Reaching her paw out she gentle touched the insects legs and it jumped away. "Hey! Get back here." Crawling slowly towards the grasshopper not wanting to scare it, Nyota once again reached out with her paw. This time the grasshopper took several jumps, eventually landing behind her. Spinning around she looked for the grasshopper, but it was no where to be seen.
Sighing she glanced up to see if it had jumped even further away. Her eyes caught some movement off in the distance. A light colored lioness from the looks of it. Squinting her eyes she tried to get a better look at this potential play mate. Then her heart sunk, it was her mother. No, she couldn't be caught, not yet, she had just managed to free herself. Spinning around again Nyota bolted, she had to see as much as she could before her mother caught her.

Maua growled as Nyota turned around, looked right at her and then ran off as fast as her little cub legs could carry her. Wretched little child - she would obviously have to step up her discipline or she was going to turn into a real rogue and that would be both embarrassing and a great pity as far a Maua was concerned.
Thankfully the cub while quick could not hope to outrun a full grown lioness and Maua shifted from a trot to a full on run as she chased down her daughter, unfortunately the little scamp was shorter then the grass she had run into and Maua had to leap every now and again to catch sight of her from above.
"Nyota!" She yelled at the cub once she got close enough "Stop this instant!"

Hearing her mother yell sent an odd spike of fear through her. It was rare for her to fear her mother, or anyone else for that matter. Nyota had sat through countless hours of listening to her mother talk...no, yell, about how running off like she always did was not proper for nobles. She knew she was in for another round of 'you're purple pelt means something' speeches. In a bit of a panic she scrambled behind a large rock that was flanked by several bushed. Nyota hoped that her mother would think she had continued running and then when she had a moment she would run again. Breathing hard she pushed herself tightly against the rock and tried to stay as sill as possible.

Nyota's little scheme might have worked as Maua rushed past the rock without seeming to take note of the little purple form huddled underneth...had it not been for the wind which blew the cubs scent to the lioness once she had gone past. Skidding to a halt she whipped about and settled her eyes on the little cub. "I see you need some hunting lessons Nyota...you should have accounted for the wind" She told her cub with a slight sigh.
Maua was furious and she was tired of chasing after her daughter. Her mostly purple daughter to which Maua tagged allot of hope, but she bit her tongue, perhaps all her yelling just wasn't going to work, maybe she should try something else. "Maybe I shall teach you such things...if you would listen for once"

Nyota's eyes narrowed as her mother spun around to look at her. "I thought Nobles were too full of themselves to hunt." She snapped at her mother. At this point what she said wouldn't matter, she was already in a heap of trouble so what was a few more words to anger her mother more. At least this time she wouldn't be disciplined in front of her siblings. It wasn't that she didn't want to be yelled at in front of them, but they all seemed to get so frightened when Maua yelled at Nyota.
Pulling herself away from the rock Nyota took a few moments to catch her breath before speaking again. Lowering herself on her haunches she looked at her mother defiantly. "I do listen...when important things are said." As far as Nyota was concerned listening to the ramblings of Nobles was not important at all. At least not right now anyways.

Maua scoffed at her daughter "Everyone must know how to hunt, don't be foolish, and you are too young to know what is important, but you will regret not listening when you are older and have a reputation as a troublemaker to over come" She warned her daughter in a firm tone "How will you ever take a proper place in the Pride if no one ver takes you seriously or respects you, you are doing nothing but destroying your own future" She continued.
"And since you are being so snippy, you shall return to the Pride this instant...and spend the rest of the day in the den for your trouble-making" she declaired - knowing that Nyota hated being penned up inside the den. Maua wasn't sure just where things had gone wrong with Nyota, she needed to talk to Kivuli about her.

Nyota huffed as her mother spoke. Same old story every time. Take your proper place in the pride, something about respect and reputation, blah blah blah. These words fell to mostly deaf ears. Nyota had heard it all enough that she didn't need to listen to Maua to know what was being said. After her mother had finished Nyota lazily glanced around her before setting her gaze back on Maua. "Proper place in the pride? You mean act like a Noble." Her tail flicked about with frustration. Why couldn't mother be more relaxed about these things like father was.
"Tell me mother. Are you more worried about my reputation and future being destroyed by my actions or your own?" Nyota knew full well that her actions affected her parents. But why should that stop her from being who she was? She was a free spirit and as such needed freedom to live. "Are you going to sit there in the den and make sure I don't leave? Or put some useless guard to the task?"

Maua sighed inwardly in frustration - it didn't matter how many time sh tried to explain it Nyota just didn't seem to see the point - or perhaps she just refused to do so, either way the lioness was quickly loosing patience and reaching her wits end. Whoever knew that having cubs could be so very troublesome?!? "Yes, act according to your station in life!" Snapped Maua "Weather you like it or not Nyota, you were born into a pride where such things matter. Clearly your actions affect us both - but it will be you who suffers the worst in the long run!" She continued before reaching out a paw to scootch th cub back towards the pride lands in hope she would take the hint "And clearly - since the guards are so very inept at keeping up with you I shall have to do it myself!"

Nyota stood unmoving when her mother snapped at her. She refused to show any fear or emotion at this time. Not that she feared Maua in any way, but any flinch or whimper might give her mother too much satisfaction. Allowing herself to be pushed a bit by Maua's paws Nyota reluctantly got to her feet and began to walk towards the prides lands. But it was a very slow walk.
"The guards aren't inept mother. I'm just smarter than they are." She said in a snark tone. And it was true. The guards could try all they want to stop her, but she always found a way around them. Guess that meant they needed better training. "And you can't watch me all time time. You have duties to attend to."

Ah finally she was moving - slowly, but slowly was better then not at all. "As you should be!" she told the cub when she remarked about bing smarter then the guards. "They are after all just...common lions" she continued in a lofty tone, though she couldn't help but be pleased that Nyota was smart - even if that intelligence made life hard right now. She completely ignored her daughters snarky tone - to acknowledge it would just encourage her to use it more.
"Yes I do..but you can always accompany me.." She suggested "Perhaps you will find some of it interesting" doubtful..but Maua still held out hope for her so wonderfully colored cub.

Nyota inwardly cringed at the thought of having to follow her mother to all her duties. Ugh that was worse punishment that being forced to stay in the den all day. Taking a deep breath Nyota pushed that thought from her mind, no point in arguing with her mother over that. Doing so would only make sure Maua brought her with her not only as punishment for today, but just to torture Nyota afterwards.
She continued on slowly forward. Perhaps her mother would yell at the guards upon their return. That might be entertaining. "If they are just common lions then why does the king allow them to guard the pride?" She asked. Perhaps that would get her mothers mind off of dragging her to court. But at the same time it was a valid question from Nyota that she was curious about.

Did she mistake the ton of her daughters voice or was that an actual real valid question? well..that was certainly better then constantly arguing now wasn't it/ Now she just had to come up with a suitable answer "Well.." Maua started as she thought her words through carefully 'Common lions do have their uses, they are good at fighting and make decent soldiers and guards..but they are not always the smartest of beasts and so often work best when commanded by a noble lion. They are good enough to keep the heathen rogues from our midst..but can't really be expected to outsmart a noble" she told her daughter. "Of course there job is to keep people out, not keep people in.."

Nyota listened carefully to her mothers words. Well that sort of made sense to her. After all every lion had a place in the pride that they were best suited to. Even the groundlings belonged here. It made sense that those good at fighting would make good guards. Though she did wonder which lion was in charge of the guards, because clearly he wasn't doing his job since his soldiers were constantly letting her escape.
With the prides border in sight Nyota looked at her mother with a smile on her face. Taking on a sudden burst of speed Nyota ran towards the border. "I bet I can beat you home!" She yelled out to her mother as she ran. If her mother decided to participate in this little game then that would be great, although chance were Maua would just yell at her for running. Either way she was determined to win this game, even if her mother didn't join in.
