Haku stretched in the sand, preparing to practice the dance he planned on doing tomorrow at the temples. Again, he was on his own out here, but he was sure Mat was doing something useful too. He simply had to limber up before he danced, otherwise he'd get all tight. And if he got tight, he couldn't keep dancing!
His thoughts at the front of his head were summarizing his recent events in his life, while the back of his mind was counting off seconds for stretching. "1, 2, 3, 4..." he said quietly out loud absentmindedly. He so far had made a number of friends, found his place in the pride, finished his classes, learned his way around the pride, and really felt comfortable here. He looked up to the temples as he stretched the next muscle. It really was a unique place to live- you'd never find these sorts of things anywhere. They were so much different from the Nchi lands- it was a great change for him.

Walking in the sand of the desert, Mei had a big grin on her face. Finally her classes were done! She had completed the required courses and was now an official Dancer and Singer for the pride. The red female was quite pleased with herself as she trotted to the watering hole, taking in a nice long drink to celebrate!
When she was finished Mei found her favorite spot under a tree by the water, enjoying the warmth of the sand rushing through her paws and belly. After laying here for some time, Mei god up, yawning and stretching as she walked around the pride lands. It was then that she spotted a familiar face. Grinning she happy trotted up to the stretching lion. "Mind if I join you?" asked the lioness with a grin as she began to stretch with her friend.

Haku had been so lost in thought that he hadn't even heard her approach! It wasn't until she spoke that he noticed, turning to her with a smile "Hey Mei!" he said happily. "Of course, of course! I always enjoy dancing with a partner," he told her with a wink, working on his front left forelimb- it was the last one he had to stretch before he was ready to start.
"How's life treating you around here, Mei? I've only caught a few glimpses of ya since we last talked," he said. "I hope everything's good," he added. He moved the counting for his stretches to his head. "You have anything in mind for what you want to do, dance-wise?" he asked, finishing his front leg and giving his paw a few quick shakes.

"Well great!" said Mei as she stretching, listening to him talk. One of the things Mei noticed about the sand, was it was easy to move without being heard. Sand didn't make much noise. That and the added fact that their paws were designed to be silent, it was easy to sneak up on someone if you intended to. Of course, Mei didn't intend to sneak up on Haku.
When she finished her stretching she stood up, and shook it around as she thought about his question. "Mmm...none in particular. Maybe we could just dance whatever you planned to practice." she said, her tail wagging slightly as she trotted around Haku. She was in a very chipper mood today. Though she wasn't really sure why. It sure was nice to see Hakuna again though!

"Well, I was gonna practice the one I was planning on dancing tomorrow," he said. "You ready?" he asked, happy to have a dance partner. It... Well, it had been a while since he'd seen her, Haku was inexplicably happy with her presence. Maybe it was her face- she looked quite happy and...
Anyway.
He started to hum the tune and go through the dances. The style here was inevitably different from the Nchi style, and it was a little difficult to pick up, but he had been doing pretty well all the same. Now that he had his steps down, and the style near perfection, he had to focus on putting his very soul into this dance. That always put the very last touch on a dance, and when your soul was in it, observers were more likely to really feel and "buy" the dance.

Mei nodded in response, taking her stance, hearing the beat in her head as she began to move to the beat, dancing the duet with Haku. She smiled as her paws slid through the sand in a fluid motion with each step she took. Mei took to dancing better then she thought she would. It wasn't as too bad, just memorizing the steps and feeling the music, even if its just in your head.
She was happy to see Haku herself, she still had few friends in the pride, but not because no one likes her. More because she was so painfully shy, that she didn't approach others often enough to have a lot of friends. But Haku was the one she liked most, maybe because they had so much in common?

He looked over at her during the dance- he knew he shouldn't have. He wouldn't keep focused. And he certainly didn't keep focused, he couldn't help but smile at her. The end of the dance was coming and he refocused himself on his moves, putting his soul back into the rhythm. He had added a new dramatic flair to it, as a result of two things- himself getting more into this dance, and from wanting to impress his dance partner. It wasn't an entirely new move, just a different take on the same one. And with that, he had finished. "You're a quick learner too, Mei!" Haku said, panting a little from the exercise. He had only needed to go through the dance once, but he wondered if she would want to go through it again. "Again or no?" he asked after he had caught his breath. "I'm not doing anything after this practice either, you wanna hang out for a while?" He asked with the most charming smile he could pull off.

Mei stopped and caught her breath when the dance was through, stretching as she yawned. She would have taken him up on the offer to go again, but she had just finished her last class a little while ago, and had been dancing all morning. "I am am actually kind of tired right now. But if you want to go again I would love to watch. That last move was lovely!" said Mei smiling as she sat down in the shade. "Oooh it would be fun to do something later!" said Mei, excited about the prospect of hanging out with Hakuna more!

"You liked it, huh? I wasn't sure about it as I did it, but if you say it was good, then I believe it!" he said with a boyish grin. He almost didn't want to go again himself, but figured he should because more practice never hurt, and because she seemed to want to watch. That meant that this dance had to be better and more exciting than the last! He would really have to focus on this one, and add his typical flair. That was the ticket- get even more into the song.
"Alright, one more time for me then we can go hang out," he promised. As soon as he finished speaking, he closed his eyes and thought hard- focused on what he was about to do. He really had to get into the song- that meant he really had to ponder on the feeling behind its creation. His eyes snapped open suddenly, he took the opening stance, and then began. This version was much more focused than the last, and he emphasized the points in the music with his dance beautifully. When he finished, he smiled at her. "Ok, what didja think?" he asked, approaching the shade to cool down a bit before they headed elsewhere.

Mei smiled as she watched from the shade. In truth, she would love to just pass out and nap. But she had been given an offer to go hang out! How coudl she turn that down!? So she would sleep through the night when she passed out in the evening. Mei happily watched as he danced, he was good. Far better then she. At least she thought so. Of course, he grew up doing this so it made sense that he would be better then she, a mere newbie in the world of dance.
When he approached her she sat up and nodded her head. "I liked it! You have your own original flair about it! It was very nice!" said Mei as she stood up yawning as she 'cat stretched' out in the sand before standing. "So where were you planning to go?" she asked him curiously.

"Thank you!" he said genuinely with a grin. He was happy that she liked it. Now for where to go- he hadn't given it any thought. Everything today was happening on-the-fly. "Well, I have an idea, but it's a secret," he said, checking the sun for his idea. Yes, sunset would be soon...
"If we leave now, we'll get there at just the right time, c'mon!" he said, re-energized by the idea. He walked at a comfortable pace, until they arrived at a water hole. With the temple silhouetted against the natural gradient of a sunset, and a water hole at the oasis before them to reflect that sunset, the scene was undeniably beautiful.
"Wonderful, isn't it?" He asked, not watching the horizon anymore, but the lioness beside him.

"Oh you are very welcome!" said Mei smiling as she noticed him looking at the sky as he said that it was a secret. Oooh a secret? how neat! "Oh how exciting! I love surprises!" said Mei grinning as she nodded when he said they should leave now, following after him.
"Okay!" said Mei, wondering where he planned to take her. She found them back at the watering hole, where she had been earlier, smiling at the sight of the sun setting behind the temple, and reflecting off the water. "Oh its beautiful!" said Mei as she sat down, smiling at the sight. How had she never seen that before? She spent so much time here to!
"Oh yes it is very wonderful!" she said, not even noticing that he was watching her.

Hakuna smiled, glad that he had found something she liked. "Nature often provides us with the beauty we crave, all we need to do is look around to notice it. Perhaps that's why we gather together, to share the beauty of the world around us that we just so happen to notice..." he said, tilting his head just the slightest, pondering his own words as he said them.
... Man, that was deep!
He couldn't believe at the moment that he was about to get up and go to perform at the temple tomorrow. "Say, you want to perform the dance from earlier with me tomorrow at the temple? He asked, sharing his thoughts. It didn't seem as tiring... If she would be with him.

Mei was enjoying the view very much, and was so glad Hakuna had brought her here! How lovely! "Yes, nature is very beautiful. At least when humans aren't around to ruin it." said Mei with a grown. Humans caught and killed their kind, destroying their jungles and taking their food. Luckily, it was rare to find a human out here. Though, humans made these ruins they lived in...didn't they?
When he asked about dancing with her she turned to him and smiled, nodding. "Sure! I wouldn't mind dancing with you at all!" said Mei as her tail swished back and forth. "It was fun dancing with you earlier, and I enjoy spending time with you anyways." she said as she chuckled. Yes, it did sound fun!

"Humans... I can't say I even know what a human looks like. I only know they exist since someone built these temples." he said, turning his gaze to the one in the sunset. Its shadow was now very tall, casting a sharp color change between the sand in the sun and the sand that hid behind it. It was quite an exquisite sight.
"That would be awesome, I look forward to it!" Hakuna said cheerfully. "I enjoyed dancing with you, too, and I'm sure the performance we put on tomorrow will be one for the scribes to record!" He said jubilantly, really looking forward to it. He had his dorky boyish grin again.
